Firmware Is Out

Well if you can cope with the boot times go and update i pretty much dont use my gp2x because of the boot time on the new firmwares and was hesitant with the old one too its annoying my pc resets quicker.... i think i am our resident boot time complainer (mtv generation i guess)

you make an important point. The boot time is really annoying. We do not need a better picture viewer or better e book reader, what we need is faster booting.

i'm one user who is quite happy for more ebook functinality, that's probobly what i used my gp32 for the most ... well, right after making music on littleGpTracker :)

anyway, shouldn't we be happy for each and every blessing and update from gph ... any progress is good, they can't do everything at once or youd be waiting 3 years for a firmware update rather than 3 months <_<

I'm personally more interested in the features actually, ChaosEngineer. One of the reasons I bought the GP2X was because it was a cheap alternative to buying a PDA to read comics and books.

I really hope Robb (right?) releases a custom updater of it soon for all of those (like me) who can't update with the GPH updater :(
He made one for the Beta 1.4.0 fw. So, I'm guessing that it shouldn't be too far behind.

You'll probably be dissapointed though... They added features to change front and back color, and there's an option to select a .ttf font now.
But GP forgot to turn on anti-aliasing :(

Oh and there's still no line-wrapping as far as I can see.

42 seconds? WTF? I timed mine at 22 from moment of turning the little beggar on, and I'm on 1.01.

Allan.

Wow that really sucks. Almost a minute to boot it up? What is wrong with them? God do they suck, all of this waiting for the new FW and it is WORSE for boot times? Maybe splitting of into modules for the GPL freaks increased it. I will stick with 1.01. I don't use their crappy video or picture viewers any way.

Craig will these horrendous boot times ever get better? They seem to be getting worse. You got to tell them that this is unacceptable.

Calm down. The booting time for me is still ca 22 seconds with 1.4.0.

Regards,
Stephan

I upgraded mine this morning for the hell of it. I didnt measure mine, but if anything it seemed to boot up a little quicker. Could be in my head though. The built in LCD tweeker works fairly decent.

yeah, the booting times seem to vary for people. 33 seconds for me.

Anyway, this firmware has so many more improvements over 1.01 its worth the upgrade. The screen also seems better to me although I could be just imagining that.

WTF? The beta boots for me in 17 seconds max. Is this slower?

17 seconds is really fast, did you measure that from the moment on you turn on the power button?

I'm really confused, I've clocked mine after installing the new FW and I'm getting 01:03 for a boot up (with or without the sd card). Why does mine take so much longer to boot?
