I wasn`t actually thinking of cheating, i was thinking along the lines of games that have a save option cannon fodder, sensible soccer, player manager, captive, dungeon master etc... i presume this wouldn`t work so a save state option would be ace. I know what your saying thou but i`m with someone else who said on forum and i`m all old school about save states, if the game didn`t use em then its just cheatin. Cause yets face it its hardly worth playing the RPG's or other games mentioned without such an option
Well, I'm going to be implementing saves to disk so that the save option in Cannon Fodder *will* work, so you should be happy with that, then :)

oh i will mate, donation would wing its way to you :D

The GP2X emulators are all so polished and great that it wasn't worth attempting to do anything else for it - bases are already covered. I hit a bit of demotivation trying to integrate cyclone, so like a magpie went for the next shiny thing that came along :) I'm afraid I'm fairly random.

They are?

I beg to differ.

PC-Engine, SMS, SNES, ColecoVision, all could use alot more work especially PC-Engine and SNES. Look at your giz SNES it runs circles around the GP2X one. Overclocking to 266 for a PC-Engine emu? Crazy. That could use ALOT of work as that ran better on a 133 MHz GP32.
Taking a stroll down the Boulevard Tangential...

Maybe I should re-phrase that, then. The GP2X (and the GP32 before it) has some of the most technically-capable coders I've encountered (judging from their output - I haven't seen their source). I can't compete with that - I just don't have the raw talent. The people concerned can improve their emulators, for sure, but it's a question of diminishing returns, isn't it? We're still very much in frontier territory with the GP2X, and the temptation is always to look at the zone adjacent to where you are, rather than setting up a pretty house, being happy, and watching the garden grow (to torture an analogy).

I've said it before - I think the difference in emulators on the Gizmondo versus the GP2X is that the ports that I've worked from to use on the Gizmondo have been adapted for small-screen, lower-powered devices already. They didn't happen overnight - I'm sure a hell of a lot of work went into PocketSNES, for example.

As an end user, why should you care? Well, you don't need to, of course. But this is a community, and we're being given some great emulators by some very skilled people, very early in the console's life cycle.
There's much more skill in releasing quality software for the GP2X rather than just chucking 400Mhz at the problem and seeing what happens.

I firmly believe that the GP2X has a lot more mileage in it than has been demonstrated to date, but that some emulators won't show that off so much as other releases due to lack of raw horsepower. If we get quality, creative releases, that would be more than enough for me. I think there's a lot of potential for that, given some of the stuff we've already had the chance to play with.

The ideal retro gaming handheld hasn't been released yet, IMHO. It isn't the PSP with its screen format, and it certainly isn't the Gizmondo with its 2D performance. The GP2X is surely the best compromise option for now...

That'll be ace. Cannon Fodder, Worms (*ripper*), Stunt Car Racer et al will all be playable with their save functions intact.

Do you have a paypal account Critical? Because I may feel the need to donate after your next release.

I think the readme had PP account details... :)

My weekend attempt at save to disk wasn't successful, but I'll keep trying. Also, I've been contacted by the mighty Chui, and there is encouraging work going on elsewhere at present.

The new 2.0 firmware makes developing a lot less painful :) I wish I'd had that a while ago, when I spent so much time putting an SD card in and out... it used to feel like the disk swapping you had to do when copying disks using a single disk drive...

The reason 295 is not in the menu is that many units doesn't take that much.
My Gp2X have a maximum of 275Mhz .
260 is the maximum everyone's able to reach.
But you can run Uae4All with this clock speed using scripts I presume.

Hey Critical, are you still working on this or have you passed it on to someone else?

Just curious as I would love to see this emulator get the attention it so rightfully deserves. I haven't tried it yet as I'm still waiting on my GP2X to be sent out but this is the main reason why I am buying one and the first thing I'll be trying on it.

A donation is definatly being considered :)

There will hopefully be a speed-up coming in the near-ish future. I'm very busy at the moment with a variety of things, but I'm keen to do more work on it. If people want to fix it up themselves, I've always made the source available, so no-one's stopping them :)

hi critical

Thanks for this great emulator. All my favorite amiga-games run on it.
only one question: is it possible to use some keyboard or mousekeys directly on buttons of the gp2x?
A standard amiga joystick has got only 2 buttons, left 4 buttons on the handheld. with such a setting you could jump crackscreens or switch between move and fight in battle isle directly. just an idea
