I Just Got My Gp2x!!!

I ordered last night from GamerSection.ca (GP2X + SD reader)

Considering it's Montreal-based, it shouldn't take long to get to Toronto via standard FedEx, what without customs :)

But you will need to pay tax, like me since I am in Quebec I would have to pay both taxes 8-( (GST + PST)
Unless the prices already included tax?

Well I already got burned with the GST and PST at checkout, so that's over with.

So it was half the price of the console? ahhh paying the taxes are annoying, that why I something order stuff outside of Canada, then I pray that I dont get some customs fees craps (which could be worst, I rember to have ordered a book and pay a brokers fees that was more than half the price of the books!)

Shining Force 1 + 2, Warsong, King's Bounty, Dune, Mega Lo Mania, General Chaos, Populous 2, Powermonger, Risk, Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, P.T.O. (Pacific Theater of Operations) 1 + 2, Operation Europe, Nobunga's Ambition series, Liberty or Death, Gemfire, Dominus, Cannon Fodder (more action, really), Warrior of Rome/Ambition of Caesar 1 + 2... probably more. Some of those are pretty heavy-going though!
Whoa! Awesome list!

She's almost beaten Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA) and - at 9 mind you - ran into a near-end game boss encounter with 6 vampires. If they die, after 4 rounds they raise again with full health. Each had 400 HP to her 120 average. Each had incredible range area-affect spells they could use every turn. They thrashed her. I took a look and told her "I think you need to level your characters up - you've probably gone too far too fast."

Does she? No. She figures out that they always go for her strongest character, so she leaves that person in the center of the map and dumps heals and pure resurrections on him while her other folks flank around the sides, gang up on the lead vampire, beat him, and thereby beat the mission. Took her two tries to beat the battle.

I don't recall being that smart at 9, but then, they didn't have games like that.

1st post to the forums! :D

It's odd but I like the one my friend has - it's why I ordered one for myself - but there's just something awesome about the one YOU own!

I ordered my GP2X from lik-sang.com and got it on the 21st. MK2 with the newer joystick and firmware 2.0.0 flashed already. Added a 2nd screen protector($5.90), replacement joystick for my friend's console($1.00) and 2-day UPS express shipping($24.00) I only shelled out $210.80 and they take PayPal which made it easier for me. I sold my GBA SP package and it covered almost the whole cost. I won't regret that trade! :D

I've already picked up a 4GB card(it's on the way) and the Energizer 2500mAhr rechargables will be in my hands today. I even ordered a generic carrying case from eBay for it. Anything else I should have my eye out for accessory-wise?

I also just read on one of the sites that there's now an INTV emulator! I'm going to go through a lot of hours playing all the classics everywhere I go!!

Ok, I just joined the club! My reactions thus far: GP2X does what it does extremely well, namely, host emulators. I get good/excellent speed on most pre-1990's games. The display is excellent! Super black levels, bright colors, no lag, no scanlines (?!). The sound is fair/poor on most games, but that's the speakers, I haven't used headphones yet. The button performance is fair/good, joystick is fair/good. Emu usage of hardware has been excellent. I particularly like the ability to switch screen orientation! That is probably one of the best features, because some vertically-oriented games (think Pacman) *need* to be played in their original orientation. Also having stretch as an option is nice as well. So far, MAME is the king of emulators, in terms of learnig curve (very short) and playability (very high!). Some of the other emus like the Sega and NeoGeo, have a pretty step learning curve, with a high failure rate of game access. But, that may be improved over time. Native USB support is functional but slow - there is no way a USB-2 in this machine, unless I have the slowest SD card in the world. 60 minutes to transfer 350 MB? Please. SD-reader is recommended, as everyone has said.

I must say, I am secretly thinking now, that the GP2X is, the ultimate, universally-uncsoncious destination for all emulators. All emu programmers have been working for this handheld destination, and they didn't even know it! Now we can enjoy the harvest of 25 years of classic video gaming, in our shirt pocket. Wonderful.

Ok that's enough for now. Karnov on MAME! Bionic Commando on FishyNES! long live retro gaming!

funny but my experience is exactly the opposite. Everything I've thrown at Sega and NeoGeo has worked perfectly...but I have all kinds of problems with mame (and I'm not a mame newbie...I have my own arcade cab running mame). I'm not sure what my problem is...I ran clrmame and thought I had the right romset...but a lot of games have glitches or don't run at all. 10 yard fight has graphic issues right after kickoff (guys dissapear), bullfight (the bull and matador dissappear and appear at different parts of the screen), some roms just don't work, etc. I'm not sure what's going on there.

Most of my emu problems have been solved by re-copying the roms to my sd or finding a different dump of the game. All the emulators seem to have a few games that don't work correctly regardless, though.

My GP2X just arrived along with the extra screen cover (hard one), tv-out cable, carrying case, power supply, 2gb sd card, and sony rechageable batteries!!!

I'm charging the batteries now, but booted up using the power supply. Played vecktar, and watched the payback demo (boo, i thought you could play it, eh)! Lookin sweet so far!

Now I just need to get home from work so I can load up this SD card! :D

I got mine today too.

I was surprised that the screen is physically smaller than the GP32's, and that its colours are a bit more disturbing (they have a burning feel to them) - I tried to mess with the frimware's LCD tweaker but to no real success.

So far I tried DrMD, Quake, and Duke, all of which run incredibely well. The machine boots fast, I didn't time it but I assume 5 or 6 seconds. Now I'll go try Metal Slug and Tilematch.

Great link indeed, but I can't seem to find the download link for the offline version.

EDIT: Never mind, found it :)

EDIT2: The link doesn't seems to work :(

Well, I'm nearing the end of day 1 with my GP2X. I can officially say this is the coolest electronic I own! B)

*xbox 360 sulks in the corner, gets jealous*

One is born, one grows up, one buys a GP2X... One is born again

Hi all, I'm a new member ( seems quite evident lol ), I received my GP2X MKII around 1 week ago, this machine is quite incredible, just seeing Amiga emulators, PSX emulators, Nintendo, Sega, NeoGeo, Atari, Speccy, arghhh, so much to do and so little time granted on this planet !!! ...

* Considers getting his GP2X incinerated with him when the time comes  .
