Gp2x Dev Donation Fund

important part of the community. There are some of us that really love to have an Atari 400/800 5200 emu. I use it alot and my friend who was an Atari comp nut in the day bought a GP32 BLU mainly to run your emu. Without your emu we would have a large hole in the GP32 emu lineup in my opinion.

Amen brother!

Prophet- Have you thought about starting similar threads at GP32news and GP32spain.

I am sure there are some non-english speaking people in those communities who use Jeff's software and would like to donate....

Maybe someone here could help translate some messages. Just a thought....

Wait,

I can't remember what it is, but there is a website that will organise all this for you

it was mentioned before on the forum, someone must know it

basically, a total amount is set eg. $100

everyone then pledges money, if the total reaches $100 then the money is taken from their paypal account, if not then they do not have to pay

Yeah I will give $20.00. It would have been $15 but since I got Jeff worked up  I will give slightly more to make up for it :p

Also you can add me to your list. I too am too lazy to register at another forum

But... you've been registered there already for ages! :p You post there all the time. :D It's emuboards/zodiacgamer - they're the emuholic forums. Didn't you know?

Thanks for the $20 pledge.

Thanks barnesy! 10 GBP = approx $18.23

Total pledges now: $60.77 from 5 people

($80.77 if Hanz is pledging $20.)
Are you gonna stop asking for pledges here if we reach the final amount?

Or will you carry on and add the excess amount to the fund for the next chosen developer?

Once we reach the amount needed this pledge drive will end. I intend to not have any excess money left. I want things to be very clean down to the penny.

Hanz said he'll kick in the balance once we get to $170 so that makes it even simpler.

Basically once we get to $170 in pledges, I'll talk with GP32Z again and try to get an exact amount (GP2X price - dev discount + shipping to Skeezix + paypal fees). I know he's probably still not 100% sure yet, but basically once that's all figured out, I'll make a new thread/announcement with the details on where to send the money etc. I will either handle the paypal transfers myself, or see if GP32Z can accept each pledge amount directly, which would simplify things even more.

Future dev funds may be handled differently. Not sure I want to something like fundable.org though, seems like unnecessary extra work.

If people want to post about this pledge fund at GP32Spain or others, please do so! I don't speak Spanish and I'm not going to post there with Babelfish. :p

But they need to either post their pledges here or at the emuholic thread. Or someone relay their name, pledge amount and email address (I need to be able to contact all the pledgers at some point) here or to me directly: prophet <(.at.)> zodiacgamer.com

----------------
Pledge Status

jarska33: 10€ = approx $12.27

DaveC: $20

Hanz: will pay balance when we reach $170

This ia a good idea in practice but it can be unfair.  Why?  Well what about other devs?  How about Reesy?, Franxis?, Foft?, Tuskenraider?  They would feel left out if we just sent to only one, and who would decide?

Thanks DaveC for the mention (its rare!). I'm on the GBAX pre-order list to buy myself one already. Not too worried about the money side TBH so you can leave me off the donations. I'm quite a minor dev anyway - not got enough free time:-(

What I want is open system chip docs! I'm really upset with GPH for using a chip with docs only available under NDA for an "Open Source" system. ATM I'm not sure whether to cancel my pre-order or sign an NDA. Anyone got contact details for GPH dev rel? Of course after signing the NDA you are limited in what you release. Releasing optimised GPL ports to use both CPUs is out of the question for instance.

Anyway I said I'd stop whinging so...

Mark

OH CRAP! :) I didn't realize Mark Watson = foft. For some reason I remembered your real next in relation to the emu and forgot the nickname.

I LOVE Atari 800! It was my 1st computer, and it's one of absolute favorite emus on GP32. I even bought the chatboard just so I could use it on that. I would imagine your Atari800 port could run full speed with sound on the GP2X even without direct hardware access? It runs great at 166Mhz on my BLU, so a 200Mhz GP2X should be pretty good?

I'm very glad you're getting a GP2x. No idea about your question though, perhaps Mr.Mirko can help since I believe he signed that NDA.

Put me down for $20 US.

Good idea and a deserving dev... hell if he had a paypal account I would have donated anyway just for the GP32 Castaway. I admit I would still like to see it improved as it is so close to perfection its not funny.

Thanks iorgy77, I also got your PM. :)

Pledge totals updated in the first post of this thread. We're getting much closer now!

Skeezix always seems to be a nice chap, put me down for $10 :)

Although I've never actually tried his ST emu  I'd imagine it'll be brilliant on the GP2X.

Edit: Am I the only Guru to have pledged?

Fine Squidge I get the hint ;)

I'll donate the entire contents of my paypal account, a staggering £9.41....just don't tell me wife :) , Hopefully Skeezix can add an option to control the speed of the mouse in the GP2X version, then I can have some fun with Utopia.

Later

I was mailing with Laxer and he gave me a good idea; on the PSP I'm using the analog nub for mouse and the amount of lean sets the speed. He suggested doing log acceleration, which could be really groovy; ie: accelerate more as the lean goes over, and perhaps accelerate log by duration of holding the mouse movement.

I don't think gp2x had an analog, but doing it log(time) could work pretty well..

You could always do an eccelerator button too. For example when a button is pressed the stick would act as fast, and with no button pressed slower. You would have two speeds then.. by pressing the button and letting off you can get close enough to the in-betweens as well.

Hey Reesy, your new bug free cyclone core would really make Castaway pretty fast too ;) ;) nudge. If Jeff needed some pointers integrating it maybe you could give a few hints? :)

*g* Mebbe; I'm thinking of hooking up the UAE 68k core to compare and see about comparing runtimes between musashi, castaway, UAE and fdave+reesymod+etc's cores to see whose more accurate; I'd bet UAE's is most accurate, and is by far the slowest I think :)

However, I'm amid bigger things; I ported STonX to GP32 ages ago, but the GP32 didn't have the RAM (the gp2x does.) Hatari I've sort of got working on the GP32, but its slower than castaway; but I expect to make an option to select which engine to run, in the gp2x.. So CaSTaway will run multiple engines under the hood. Why not?

The harder part is how best ot use the alt cpu; from the onset, at least it'd be free audio and maybe faster rendering (like, free frameskip sort of.) which should help a touch, though maybe add 'tearing'.

Whats the exact screen size on gp2x again?

jeff

Jeff,

Same as GP32 - 3.5" 320x240. But it's backlit and believed to be brighter with better contrast than the BLU.

ALMOST THERE NOW!!! =)

Only need $10.07 more. Not bad for 2 days.
