Wow! Doom is legal in Germany

Say, what? Why doesn't anyone think of the children?! :p

ED and other German board members. Enjoy! It's a good game.

"Both titles were previously indexed by the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons (BPjM), which placed the games in the same commercially restrictive category as porn."

So ... porn is illegal in Germany? I think maybe "illegal" is an overstatement.

Doom was not illegal. You could buy Doom in Germany if you were older than 18. It was illegal to make the game accessible to younger people. Also the advertisment and open sale was prohibited. If you wanted to buy the game, you had to go to a store you knew for selling games indexed by the BPjM and ask for the specific game ... but the store could not advertise that it sells the specific game. This led to a effective ban of these games in germany.

For games like Wolfenstein 3D or movies like Evil Dead the situation is a bit different. These are seized. For instance you can own Wolf3D for yourself, but you render yourself liable to prosecution if you sell or show the game to others ... or if you buy the game with the intention to sell or show the game to others.

Sheesh, law makers tend to be out of touch with reality, but that's really excessive.

Yeah, I love germany. There were some kids in my school, that copied the disks and traded them in the schoolyard. ;)

That was to be expected. Forbidding the content only drives up the demand for it.

Actualy, there was a censored version of Wolfenstein 3D available in germany, swastikas and pictures of Hitler was been replaced.

Lol, we actualy don't live behind the Moon here there were always ways to get these Games. :D I've played Wolfenstein and Doom shortly after it was released. We even played DOOM Multiplayer Sessions in school (but we more enjoyed Duke3D Multiplayer actualy) ^^

Wow, no Evil Dead? Now that is a crime!!
at least not in german TV. AFAIK Part 1+2 are only cut available on VHS and DVD, I don't know if these Moviels are still on the Index. However, Part 3, "Army of Darkness" runs pretty often in TV here, even uncut. ^^

But the most "dangerous" Film is still under wraps: Braindead! AFAIk there is a heavily cut Version of this Film "FSK 16" available, called "Dead Alive". Braindead is not even on the "Index", it is confiscated, means you even can't buy it legaly here "under the desk".

AFAIK, Braindead is legal for 15 year old Teens in Australia. :D

However, I'm glad that Doom 1+2 now is legal in germany, at least the Versions without Swastikas, better late than never. :)

Yes both were a lot of fun. We had a four computer LAN at home back in the Doom 2 days which was quite exceptional at the time. As a consequence we had weekly deathmatch Fridays at my place. I have a lot of fond memories of those days. Doom II, Duke3D, Warcraft, C&C, Red Alert, GTA, etc... we played it all.

Ah, good old days :)

All versions of Evil Dead 1 released in Germany (cut or uncut) are confiscated. The only existing version not yet confiscated i know of, is the british SONY release of 2010 ... and here it is only a matter of time. For Evil Dead 2 you can get an uncut FSK 18 version. The same is with Army of Darkness. Here you can also get the DirectorsCut, but only on DVD.

Here you can see all the movies and versions confiscated in Germany (with their German title ... Evil Dead = Tanz der Teufel): http://www.schnittbe...hlagnahmenFilme

Of course I've seen Evil Dead 1 and 2 too, long time ago on VHS. ;) I also watch schnittberichte.com every day, always before I visit the online TV guide. I don't want to watch cut movies (they are everywhere! ) so I'm prepared. And since I don't watch any cut movies anymore, I relly have lowered my TV consumption alot. :D

For Example, if there is any Chuck Norris or Steven Seagal movie in TV here, you can be sure it is cut, even if they show it after 11 PM. But much worse are the big cencoring in Animes, at least on RTL2's Kids Programm. In Germany, many Adults still think Animation is only for little Children. So of course there can't be violence in. ^^ to fit this, they actualy raped series like Drgonball, Naruto, One Piece, Innu Yasha....

I'm glad that at least there are some uncut Animes in the Evening program, but the great times 10 Years ago on VOX, that showed NGE or KITE or MD Geist, Armitage and even Urotsukidoji (!) and alot more are gone. OK VIVA showed also Animes, Hellsing was great but in general stuff like this is still not really accepted, even Dragonball Z, which was really successful here, and still is was abused as reason for Amok Runs.

At least, they keep the original musik and Names in Animes, I've really seen horrible stuff from US americanized Anime shows, you can't imaigine what they did with Sailor Moon i America for example, really bad IMHO.

The award for having the most ridiculously un-fitting theme tune goes to the French version of Dragon Ball Z, though. :p

True. :D In Germany, this version was used as based for the german DB intro. However, for DBZ and GT they used the original Japanese Songs as base, just translated it into german. Same for One Piece but since some time, they just keep the original Music, like in Naruto and so on, pretty cool. :)

And actualy, I like the German Intro of "Samurai Pizza Cats"
