Hey, now that waternet is finished i'd like to start with another game, i can't port anything so i probably will make a clone again, i was thinking of making a gp2x version of the flashgame blockdude : http://oos.moxiecode.com/examples/blockdude/index2.html the original game was a game for the TI calculator

would there be intrested in that ? I have no idea if i will succeed doh but i can try and i got more or less an idea on how to make it. Let me know if ure intrested so that i don't waste my time creating this game for the gp2x.

Go for it joyrider, I loved playing Blockdude on my TI-86, and a GP2X remake would sit very well on my SD :) One suggestion, do you think you could also include a skin with the old calc graphics? I love those :)

well i would do it with old ti graphics but the problem is that i can't get the game to run on any of the ti calculator emulators i've found i tried at least 10 BD versions and a couple of calculators like ti 83, ti 86 etc all without any luck :/ damn it

Ooooh!!! Yeah I remember that game! It was on my cousins calculator once and yeah its pretty cool! That game would be really cool on the GP :D

Gah, and I was just thinking about that game... used to have something a lot like it called "Loader Larry" or something like that for my 486...

i have never played it , but it looks quite good from the pictures , so i say do it as i would love a chance to play it on my gp2x.....thanks in advance...

hey guys,

here's a quick update. the other night i spended countless hours trying to modify my sokoban engine for it to work with blockdude. At first it seemed a good idea but i quickly found out that it was actually a bad idea hehe. I fixed one problem and 2 new popped up this kept on going till 5 am in the morning and i was tired of it. but today i spended some more time on it and it seems the basic movement and rules work now. Except for one thing that i couldn't get my grips on. When a player is carrying a box and u walk around and the box meets a wall the player can continue to walk ahead but the box will drop down. The problem however lies in the fact that the box will start falling as soon as the player moves under the wall so it seems on the screen that the box is falling behind the player. It's not that big of a deal so i decided to leave it like that. I'm not even sure if the original game had this implemented. It could be the player just couldn't move or sumthing will have to figure this out by playing a few levels.

I also added a viewport/camera to my sokoban engine so that i can use bigger playfields that do not fit on the screen, but the screen will be scrolled like it happens in platformers etc.

I really should spend some time trying to create another engine cause a real platform game would be a pain in the ass with this system i know have. Ah well things for later i'll see that i can upload a small movie of some sort.

Great news, this will be a very fun game :) By the way, if memory serves me right, in the original game the player and the box he carries are treated as one, so the box won't fall down if it hits a high wall. That doesn't mean you should keep it the same though, the box being able to fall out of the player's hands would add more challenge and alertness to the game. Good luck with the coding!

I worked some more on blockdude. And i think i got everything working ! Except for one thing, the undo system and i'm affraid this can't be easily fixed due to the way i "hacked" in the blockdude game rules in my sokoban game. So i'm not going to waste my time trying to fix cause it's almost impossible hehe. You can restart levels doh and the orginal blockdude game does the same thing no undo but a restart of the level.
I took the orginal graphics from the TI Game and i'm going to use those as the default graphics, however i'm going to try to change the skin system so that u can choose any skin with any level pack (unlike with sokoban where the levelpack defines the skin) only if i the skinning is working like it should (i haven't tested it yet) and when i used incorporate the skin system of waternet in the game. For the rest there's a working level editor in on the gp2x itself, you can create levelpacks etc, define the menu and text colors. just like it all was in sokoban.
I looked at the original TI83 game and it has only 11 levels (which are quite hard) so i'll be needing some help for creating extra level packs !. I've defined the play grid as 50x50 so space enough to create some cool or extremely hard levels. Oh yeah the fps counter, for some reason i'm losing 20 fps in tv out mode (it's running in the 40ish while in lcd mode it's in the 60ish) but that's still more then enough to play the game, it doesn't need that much.
Also as with sokoban u'll be able to choose upto 25 customn music files to play in the game.

I'm still wondering how i'll add in the skin changing part doh, since currently L&R are mapped to change the music, so maybe u'll have to do change skins on the titlescreen only by pressing L or R or i could do a joystick click+L or R

here's a WIP video from youtube !

Any chance of making a game called BLACKDude? And you deal drugs or something? Or push drugs... yeah... push drugs sokoban style.

This game is practically writing itself...

hehe blackdude ? pushing drugs ? well u could create a skin for my sokoban game or this game since everything will be skinable even the titlescreen so u can name it whatever u want, the orginal game was named blOckdude doh :p

Be sure to produce and sell that game on gp2x.co.uk, it'd be just the image we need

Great news guys !

I contacted the author of the flash version of blockdude, asking him if he would be ok if i used the graphics from his game for my gp2x version. And guess what he was ok with it ! he was even so nice to send me all the graphics / tiles he had from to game to me. And i couldn't be more lucky the tiles where all in the right size for my game only little modificiation was needed ! so i added all graphics in and it looks good if u ask me :) just look at the screenie from level 1!

creating the levels takes a bit more time now since it's i have like 26 diffrent tiles now instead of 6 with the old graphics set i was using from the TI-83 calculator.

Oh yeah alex don't worry i've created a skin with the default graphics.

It will be a bit harder creating new skins since there are more tiles and level creating will also be harder. let me explain the new graphics have 26 diffrent tiles but the old ones had 6 so i just replaced all wall / floor / ceiling tiles with the default wall tile for the ti 86 skin. Now suppose ure creating a level with the ti 86 skin since there are 26 tiles there'll be a lot of (wall tile) duplicates to choose from and u can't know if with the default graphics skin the tiles are ceiling, roof or just walls. so u basicly can't know this and thus it's not a good idea to create levels with a skin that doesn't have all the diffrent tiles in it. (like the ti86 skin). I'm thinking of forcing the default graphics in the leveleditor so people can't mess up the looks of the default skin when creating levels with another skin.
The only reason i'm telling this is because skin authors probably want to see their tiles in the level editor because it'd be easy to see if the skin is graphicly perfect or not. i could however let it be able to change the skins while being in the level editor so u can see if the level is looking like it should it in the default skin.

Problem is i'm lacking buttons to do this i've used all of them. and if i want to use for example a combination of buttons the function for the single button still gets called. The only button i haven't used is the joystick click button. which i rahter don't use. will have to figure out a way for this . hehe

hey guys,

i made some things in the game, i can limit the viewport now based on the size of the level so u can't scroll beyond the level dimensions. i also added a freelook mode (Y+joystick) so u can freelook the bigger levels :)

and i made another wip movie to show off the 10 levels i have from the orginal game, the 11th level was something special and it doesn't work with my game i'm sorry for that.

here's the wip movie : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTCwDL6jtTQ

Oh yeah does anyone know if there is a game based on this that has more levels ? i couldn't find any or if someone is good at level creating and want to help me with level creating cause i'm just not good at it they are to easy lol :)
