We need more drama. So here's another video.

providing options in a first boot has a development cost. ship it with screen blanking. done
They already have to ask things like username, password, etc. Might as well add other settings questions in there.

It is not just asking the questions, they will have to code automatic response to modify relevent configuration files as per users response. More automation means more chances of code failure. Best is user does his own configuration and till that lid close does nothing or just blank the screen, I think that is safe.

Indeed. There'll have to be a Pyra settings script that lets you modify this at any later point should you change your mind, so having this in the first use app as well is duplication. I agree that for review purposes even having to ask for a username and password feels like a bit of an ask for some reviewers, given you also have to set timezone and probably other stuff I've forgotten.

That will be triplication actually as default DE ( xfce4 or mate or whichever is choosen) will also have this settings in it's GUI settings app, and if we consider text config files of the default DE it becomes quadruplication. ;)

EDIT: and these config scripts targeted at default DE will fail if user changes DE to something else (i3/openbox etc.). So it is best to let user do his own config according to app/scripts/config files provided by DE ( just like arch)

Ya all this configuration is already possible. dot files are the way to do this, almost every piece of software supports them. There’s often GUI software for configuring them as well. I’m not very familiar with Mate so I can’t guarantee that last part. Not sure if the driver for the sensor is working, but it’s on the list. Shouldnt be an issue to get that going if it’s not.

You have some luck, to find N900 in 2019, I searched it everywhere but none found.

Try on Ebay (your country or international Ebay) or second hand local markets. I had no problem finding them, although a part of N900 on sale, specially ones looking like "new", have changed cases/housing or keypads: components like original but not made by Nokia (they have less quality).

I found an N900 to be unusable these days.

All of the software is busted, the repo has to be hacked to redirect, there are certificate issues for the browser, there is no MMS support and FMMS developed as a workaround often drops MMS, it doesn't support LTE and HSPDA bandwidth is being cannibalized by providers in the US. Among other things I probably forgot.

I loved the phone, but there were just too many issues to work around.

If you really want one Maemo talk might have some in the for sale
