The RetroPi

Well, I guess if I send the RetroPie team one of those, they'll probable take care of that in the image.

The Pi2 should work fine with that.

Yes, Kickstarter is an idea, though Kickstarter doesn't exist yet in Germany.

Not sure Bluetooth contollers are needed - as you could simply plugin a Bluetooth dongle and the controllers should work.
I'm already trying to throw money at you :)

More seriously, I'm not trying to beg for the icp3 or anything ;)

but when it comes to the "out of the box" experience.. having a standard (supported) controller that comes with the unit for those of us that don't own original controllers would be an excellent option.

Even if you buy a bunch of them and preload the configuration for them.

this little project sounds really sweet!

as i fell in love with an rpi2 recently, i'm all for a

nice case and the option to play modules.

so a clear +1 preorder from me! :)

*now thinking about the internal usb thingie...*

Just a quick update with a first look of the combo case:

retropi1.png

retropi2.png

From the front, the top covers all the cabling (USB, Network, etc.) of the Raspberry Pi, so it will look nice when you put it onto your shelf.

All USB ports of the Raspberry and the Retrode are still accessable, so you can connect mouse and keyboard as well as network cable to the Raspberry, or connect the Retrode2 to a PC and use it as normal.

And a short 5 - 10cm USB cable connects the Retrode2 with the Raspberry Pi.

What you can't see yet in the case is that the top covers will have shutters (like the MegaDrive) to protect the cartridge ports when nothing is in :)

We're getting there :)

love it!

clean look and all ports accessable, verry nice! :)

The 2nd pic looks like my house :)
cool you live in a giant retropi2 gameconsole?

maybe you can mock up some huge modules on the roof,

that would give the perfect location for a tv ad campaign

featuring the yes men running around like crazy simulating

happy bits and electrons! ;)

Is the free Space for the Power Supply?

I would love it more when the Power Transformator is buildin.

Thats one Reason why i love the Fat Playstation2 much more then the Slim Playstation2

I have tooo much of this Sorts of Power Supplies here:

So the empty corner there is for the Pi? So it's nort built within the case or how does this work?
The Pi is inside the case, on the other side of the open area.
So what's supposed to be there? It yells: FILL ME!" ^^"
You can put anything in you like...

It's the only way to access the Raspberrys USB-Ports (we can't move them).

Well, all you need is MicroUSB, as that's what powers the Raspberry.

Awesome to see the progress in this topic.

I saw your post on the retrode forums, and I just wanted to show my support. I do want this badly actually. :D

Cheers!

You guys aren't using the GPIO? That seems kinda sloppy to be brutally honest.

EDIT: bandwidth looks like it might be an issue, roms are pretty big ;)

I do like the case though, and the fact it gives those without much electrical knowledge to use the retro-pi project with a classic controller without having to purchase or wire one into the pi's GPIO port.

Only addition would be maybe make room to mount a 2.5" drive and sata adapter on the bottom somewhere? Would be cool to have an emulator system that could store your library in addition to running carts. Glaring omission from the retron IMO.

I'm still running the B+ and need an upgrade to the pi2 so I will probably be picking one up.
