The Reason I Don't Want Next Gen

How about Winning Eleven 10...

There's a game that has been tweaked to perfection.

We all complain about sequels and remakes, but in 2004 only 3 original games made to top 100 sales chart. 0 in top 30 from the stats that I read last year. We're definitely sending mixed messages to publishers for sure.

thats suprising, i haven't really followed the current generation. to know whats out there or not, i just buy the $5 cheap used games. I'm more interested in the classic games, but hell, i didn't know it was that bad.

Well, masses buy resycled crap. The voice of enthusiastics is drowned in the storm...

For the love of f-ing god, Tekken 6?? Ridge Racers 7??? I'm so sick of damn sequels and everytime you turn around a sequel or prequel or remake of an old game is being made.

please make something original...thanks.

I hear ya ... it's like going to a friend asking "Have you played Game ABC?" and he replies "Which one?" and hands you 10 games with exactly the same name differenced by numbers. Same goes for some hollywood movies :p

What could actually kill the gaming market is the current price structure. After days or weeks or, at least, months of release, the price of games go down at least 50%. So, people, like myself, don't pay the full price, rather waiting for the inevitable price drop and buy them at discount price, even with buy 2 get one free deals from Toy's R Us.

Having initial $60 pricetag is almost irrelevant because I won't buy almost any at the price. Simply with today's development/marketing cost, I don't know how they're going to get their development/publishing investment back.

Probably, that explains why publishers prefer sequels which somewhat guarantees the sales and recycling game engine cut down development cost significantly.

i don't mind sequels, when its legitimate, like Resident Evil. other than the remakes of the original, they are all kinda original still, same theme, but different gameplay. But even now its getting kind of old.

Especially with Fighting games. Tekken 6??? The only tekken game i own is Tekken Tag and thats all i need. And racing games, I can't wait for Grand Turismo 8 to land, maybe they'll throw in some peddle bikes to make it different.

There just has to be a point somewhere in a franchise where it ends. Or is it maybe that its possible that pretty much any idea that could be incorporated into a video game has already been done, making it virtually impossible for any new product. And when was the last time EA had an original thought?

Imagination and creativity don't just "run out", not when we're talking about an industry in which thousands (more?) take part. It's just that money dictates everything, and for as long as little Billy will buy NFL 200X every bloody year, the business will keep on going in its current state.

Those games where very good for their time. But I think:

1. You shouldn't make much sequals for a fighting game. Like someone who was good in KoF 95, still is in KoF2002 cause the gameplay doesn't change exept for a few things. Some people like that, but much don't I think. Like I prefer KoF2002 (cause of the 60+ characters) and much others prefer KoF 95 because it was very good back then.

2. Games like the Ridge Racer series needed to add more and more to make the game better. Like Ridge Racer 1 on PSX had 4 cars or something, 5 tracks and NO SAVE option and still this game was good back then. But Ridge Racer changed so much every version. And that's good, cause I think Ridge Racer 7 will be a great game.

3. Then you have one game in particulair, Metal Gear Solid (PSX). The first game was so great and everybody wanted to buy MGS:2 (PS2), and my opinion is: THAT GAME SUCKED ASS and still Konami or whatever company creats the MGS keep creating Metal Gear games which still SUCK!

4. Then you have Mario;

Super Mario Bros. (NES) - Good!
Super Mario Bros.2 (NES) - Better!
Super Mario Bros.3 (NES) - Everybody knows all the secrets in this game and can remember every tune in this game :)
Super Mario World 64 (N64) - Revolutionary
Mario Sunshine (NGC) - The biggest crap Nintendo every created!

This way I can name hundreds of games which previous versions were the ones we all know and the sequals will be forgotten. Almost everybody knows: mario, little nemo, marble madness, ducktales, loderunner, bomberman, kirby (just to name a couple of nintendo games) Then you have pacman, space invaders, defender etc. etc. Like... have you ever played Pacworld 3D, (even IF you did), you know that every pac-man game ever created after the original contains the classic. <_<

Since the PS2, XBOX, NGC console war something happened to the game world which I don't like. So I bought a GP2X for playing my good ol' classics

Well, that's my longest post i've written so far

Sons of Liberty was a fucking phenomenal game. so pleeeeeeeeeaseee
I concur. The PS2 MGS games have both been fucking great games, if you don't like them it's a pretty good sign that you have no taste in anything. The story on the second one got pretty convoluted near the end, though, and the bullshit you had to sit through between the Metal Gear Ray and Solidus fights almost ruined the whole thing. The other 99% of the game was pretty good, though.

Metal Gear 1 WAS better, the story was very intresting, and sometimes you had to go back to the beginning. I didn't had that "level" feeling like MGS:2 but more that "world" feeling. That's 1 think what I missed in MGS:2 for sure. And then the different endings... the bosses, and offcourse the second disc :D
