I've just noticed that according to Google Trends, the Pandora has steadily gained popularity over the last year. When the preorders started, look at the massive spike of interest around that date. It might suggest that there's still tons of interest out there, but most people need a little more convincing before putting their money down. Judging from that, I wouldn't be surprised if the second batch orders being several times the amount of the first orders.

Not only that, but if you do a Google search for "Pandora", look where the homepage is!

Google search for Pandora

Second place is pretty impressive, considering how many other things share the name.

Oh, didn't notice that. thanks for pointing that out
EDIT:
Actually on my side, there are 3 sponsored results, and after that normal results, with Openpandora.org being the third

Here, zero sponsored results and open pandora the fifth. Perhaps it depends of country/browser/operating system/cookies?

I see more insteresting searching the term openpandora
It starts in april 2008, and then the curve flow is very similar to the one in first post.

It's also noticeable that London & Madrid are the first cities, and Spain & UK the first countries. As I live in Madrid I suppose I contributed a bit on those statistics. And I'm glad to see there are many more spaniards interested in the Pandora. :) Kinda reminds me the ZX spectrum golden age, where the most of good software came from UK & Spain.

Lots of dutch people. It's the #6 region, right behind the big ones (and Spain? not sure what that means) which I find odd considering how tiny this country is. Anyone want to speculate on the reason for this?

The GP32 and GP2X has a large Spanish dev community behind it.

Funny thing is, with the space between "open" and "pandora" US is first by a large margin, but without the space, the US is 4th. People in the US like wide open spaces, perhaps? Wide citizens, big cars, big homes, big yards, etc.

Just interesting in my point of view. Why such a large difference in numbers?

According to this comparison, we have some catching up to do.

It's also interesting seeing that the GP2X is most popular in the motherland, South Korea. Unfortunately, they seem to not care about the Pandora at all.

To add more comparisons, try this one: http://www.google.com/trends?q=open+pandor...=ytd&sort=1

Talk about catching up! :p

... or this one: http://www.googlefight.com/index.php?lang=...d2=open+pandora

...but that's in google searches only :) ... And it hasn't been launched yet, whereas the gp2x has been around for a while.

+ :pandora1: 4eva.

Even though it's being developed overseas.

The different rankings between the users are attributed to the different Google server that returns the result. When the ranking for a keyword changes (which happens a lot) it would require 2 weeks to one month to reflect on all Google servers, and by the time the change reflects on the last server, another change might also happen. Other attributes that play a part are your geographical location, default user language, which Google locale are you using (.com or .co.uk) and finally your last search (known as previous query).
