YOUNG VORHEES
...thieves equipped with angle grinder and van...
Lord have mercy. All of that for a damn bike.
I reckon the crime would be much more serious in New Orleans once angle grinders enter the equation, like breaking into someone's house when they have an iron door. Thinking about it, taking an angle grinder to one would still be a challenge; you couldn't even pull one of those doors off the house with a truck.
In any case, criminals out here aren't that smart or committed.
I'm not a fan of those aero wheels personally.
Aerospoke wheels (and similar) seem to be among the most polarizing things in the planet when it comes to bikes.
Never had a problem with v-brakes either, though you need to pump them in the wet to sluice the water off the rim before they'll grip.
V-brakes are perfectly fine. I just like the "new shiny" is all, and I see disk brakes as that next step in bike technology evolution.
Plus, my bike has all the accommodations for a disk brake, and the rear hub I want accommodates one as well.
Disc brakes do make taking your wheel off more complex, but I'd consider them essential if you expect to go off-road and get the bike muddy for example.
Eh. Something I could live with. Taking the wheel off shouldn't be a common chore anyway.
I assume that old bike is a steel framed bike - I'd love to have a steel bike.
It be aluminum.
...unfortunately I had parts stolen in my own bicycle basement/garage by neighbours already, including a basket I had secured with four cable straps.
Once I just went into a supermarket for 5min and in that time someone stole one of the well secured luggage spanners I use to stop bags from flying out of the basket.
Give them 10min and they'll take the chainwheel and handlebars as well.
I hate people.
I'm not surprised in the least. The things people would do for only a part of a bike.
