The biggest computer/gaming mistake you have ever made.

I just did this : I was downloading something for use on my pandora thru my home PC ( we have dial up so it takes 'bout 4 and half hours to download something of 312 mb :( ) and so because of this I do not want to burn an image of the site into my monitor I turn off the monitor . So I came to check on the progress during the last 20 mins and I accidentally turned off the computer .

The earliest one I can remember was buying Brilliance for my Amiga (can't remember if it was for my 500 or 1200). Awesome paint program, but it cost me $320 (and needed a dongle in the joystick port to run) and a couple of months after I bought it they released version 2 (no dongle needed) for only $99. For a teen with almost zero art skill and almost no money, that was rather annoying.

Buying POD2 for 110DM as first game for my dreamcast because I didn't know what the 125DM costing game Shenmue next to it was.

When I found out I found Shenmue2 in a shop when I was on holiday, didn't had the money with me and the shop closed 10min. later, stayed closed afterwards (check all days from holiday...). Later I bought both versions, played them and found out there will be no part 3 ;(

Also bought the net-adapter, not knowing that there were 2 kinds (hit300/400?), one did unreal tournament online the other was for browsing :(

I also have the eeepc701, game.com and gizmondo, but I like them... :p

I also have a expensive HMD icw. a geforce 6900. Than the 7900 card I had dropped the sync pint for vga, 8800 lacked support by design.

New cards have some usb/hdmi sync from nvidia that does not work for my vga hmd.

Adding a defective SSD to my pc, busting the motherboard. Just to be sure I tried the SSD in a second pc, guess what happend ;(

I had both, I got a lot more play out of my N64.. I thought most of the games on my PSX were bland.

Well you can emulate both on the Pandora .

Beyond that I am a Nintendo fanboy . At least till SNK returns to the console market .

Is this going to Happen, or is it just wishful thinking??  If an SNK console is in the works then this is exciting news.

Oh no I meant a REAL SNK console not something put out by BLaze . With the neo geo name slapped on .

Spilled conductive paint on a xbox motherboard I was modding.

Bought my daughter who was 6 a barbie digital camera. She and her 4y/o sister took turns photographing each others' butts. So yeah, my children manufactured child porn and uploaded it to my computer.

This happened to me two years ago.

I was modifying the USB port on my computer (don't remember why), and I was soldering with a faulty soldering iron, I didn't know it at the time, but apparently the tip had 120 volts at the tip of it. My computer was still plugged in, but not turned on, and I started soldering on the 5v pin, nothing happened, it soldered correctly, likewise for D+ and D-. I soldered the ground pin and... POOOF, my soldering iron arced to the ground pin in a bright flash. I turned on the computer, and it doesn't work. I took out the motherboard and looked, and there was a burn mark on the case where the 120v had arced from the southbridge to my case. Luckily, it only fried the motherboard, the rest of my components survived.

The good thing that came from this is I had to upgrade my motherboard to a new one, which I still have and going strong.

^on the upside, you would never touch a soldering iron tip, and so were very unlikely to get electrocuted <_<

well, actually I could get electrocuted, as solder is conductive and I'm holding that one, but never did because I wasn't grounded. Although, now that I think about it, there was one time I was soldering something on my bike, so I was on concrete, and bare foot, as you can imagine, I got a good shock there.

That's why a red rider BB gun is perfect . Can't make kiddie porn , not quit powerful enough to put eye out when aimed at away from eyes .
That is if you allow them BB guns .

I once helped my uncle doing some arc welding. Held a hand on the workpiece, yes indeed barefoot on concrete. An arc welder outputs quite a bit of amperage, I can tell you...I was shaking ten minutes afterwards.

Never told my mother that :)
