So What Do You People Do?

I haven't even touched the Neo Geo emulator.

I've been trying out some C64 classics and playing through Quake at a playable speed.

Also, if devs were the only people to buy the system then there wouldn't be many people to play their games, would there? Point. Less.

Sharpen up your attitude and come join the fun :)

Yeah but development takes time and the amount of people that were jostling to buy a GP2X ASAP...It just struck me as rather pointless for non developers. I am waiting a few months until there is some worthwhile stuff developed.

do you think, it will get cheaper, if you wait for it maybe 6 months? i don't think so and in germany the first edition gp2x's where even cheaper than the regular ones.
so where do you think is the advantage of nit byuing it now but in half a year?
There is little worth buying it for now. And you never know what could happen before THAT long- the GP2X equivalent of the flu or blu or the redesign of the control stick everyone seems to be muttering about it needing.
I just don't like the idea of having something sitting around that I'm not going to use for a few months, it could get damaged or got knows what in the meantime.

I could sort of understand people getting one if they don't already have a GP32, everything to come out will be new. But for GP32 owners the GP2X is currently just playing catch up, it has yet to go beyond the 32 in any major way.

Meh, stop feeding the troll. He should have had his fill of bile.

You really need to get that attitude seen to newbie.

I bought it for watching AVIs, music and totally enjoying the NES on it.

Who knows what's just around the corner...

I'm sorry, Chrono Trigger runs at 60fps? On the GP2X? Or on the PSP?

Probably on the GP2X... I used SNES9X on the PSP and I could only get chrono trigger running at 15 fps at 222mhz and 30 fps overclocked at 333mhz, admittely, the PSP isn't good for emulation as some who originally bought the system for that thought...

Well, you know, you could be saying the same thing about the Xbox 360 right now. Why does anyone buy a new console on release? For most people, it's to get their hands on the latest and greatest gadgets before anyone else.

But unlike the 360, I don't see the GP2X falling in price any time soon. So why wait? Unless you're hoping GPH will iron out any hardware problems (of which there are very few), I can't see a good reason.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be perfectly content with my GP32 but I'm too eager to find out what the GP2X is capable of.

I bought it mainly to have something to do while travelling to my family this Christmas. I have a GP32 NLU, but it'll be cool to be able to watch films/shows on this and hopefully by Christmas there will be plenty of new bits of software to run on it.
I do intend to code on it, but given that this is supposed to be a Christmas present from my girlfriend I cant really do anything apart from test it out before the Christmas season.

What do you early adopters of the GP2X do with your overpriced brick?
Sure for the developers among you its fine but there seems to be a lot of people including non-developers who have bought into it early...Surely you can only be entertained by Metal Slug for so long?

overpriced brick  i think not.

after seeing what the gp32 can do i have very high hopes for what the gp2x can do!

wait 2 - 6 months and then lets see what you say!!!

I expect there may be a "joystick upgrade" available, as someone said the joystick is detachable. *hint at GPH*

Anyways, I'm getting mine for movies, emulators, trying a bit of my own homebrew and to enhance my geekyness.

Pong: coming soon to a GP2X near you, if I can be bothered.

I sent mine back. The joystick ruined it for me. Fine during the menus, but devving my own games made me realise just how bad it was. I'm not dissing the GP2X before the flamers leap in, it was great apart from the joystick. And that is not a software fix sadly. Some people like the stick, and I accept that. I'm not happy with it, and will stick to coding for and playing my GP32 for now :)

i don't like the joystick much myself :( not sensitive enough for me, and feels too much like a regular analog stick. everything else about the system is great, though, even the buttons(esp. shoulder buttons). ah, if only it had a gp32 stick!!

Ok I don't have it right now, but the gp2x will arrive next week. I also have a little bit of testing to do with my pulsar skin to complete it some day :)
