So What Do People Usually Do With Their Gp2x?

Thoroughly enjoying NetHack! I LOVE the D&D style w retro graphics, having played Mines of Moria and Larn back in the pre-Win 3.1 days (ooohhhs).

PRBoom is also working flawlessly, and a lot of fun, I never was into Doom but I am enjoying it now.

And of Course MAME in my pocket is the best of the best! Carrying round the Arcade of my youth. Mastering, remastering, or just finishing (!) arcade games from the 80's and 90's is terific! Karnov, Hippodrome, Kid Nikki Radical Ninja, and of course there's always time for a round of SF Hyper Fighting!!!

My big discovery in GP-MAME is, ratcheting up the video clock and cranking down the audio clock - gives amazing performance for the processor-hungry games like SF-HF - silky framerates now!

I use it to read all the crap ebooks like 'How to make a million on eBay' not worth printing but worth a quick look on a tea break.

And getting stuff to work, I spend more time mucking about with directories than I do playing the games, more time working out the best way to rip a PSX game than playing it and more time shrinking films than actualy watching them. My batteries don't last long enough to do much or take it anywhere but it's good for mucking about with and trying out the new homebrew.

I will probably use it more when it can play more types of movies or the batteries last longer.

It's pretty good that so many people can use it for different things.

I'm pretty lucky now but wasn't when I was growing up.

I never owned consoles as I was growing up (except a couple of handhelds) & only got to play them at my friends house's. We also didn't have any good arcarde's with the newest games either
I'm now going back & playing through all the games that I missed out on in the old days, starting from the first game of the more popular series (mario, metal slug, sonic etc.) & working my way through them in order.

Lucky you ... you are so young... imagine if you were at my age! you have to go through all the games of atari... my first game was Asteroids... and i still remember the racing game my friend made on his Sinclair ZX 81... damn that was ugly :)

I normally just leave it on my desk and never use it, occasionally checking out the latest emulator release for about 3 minutes.

Super Mario Kart runs half speed if you overclock and put the sound off.

Strange, but I play Mario Kart @ 200mHz with the sound on, FS1 and it runs much faster than half speed.

Playing DrMD is great, even better because it supports per-game configuration and plays mega drive/genesis AND master system / game gear, and best if I play it on a [big] tv screen

Watching movies is great, but really ain't no compatibility at all as I would expect from a mplayer-sourced player
I never watched a (long playing) movie, but all the time I have some cartoons like Bromwell High or The Simpsons to watch, and since most of these are in 320x240 res, I don't even have to re-encode 'em...

I think that marketing department took over when they want it to be called "txt file reader", as a .txt file is not what I expect for an e-book, but you can replace the program with a PDF reader anytime you want, altough .TXT file reader is good to read some kind of file like readme.txt that came with instructions on how to play your last downloaded game

Curiously, I often use the photo program to check out if a recently shot photo will look good/sharpy, now it's much better than having to boot a computer just to check out the images..
What I REALLY need is a prism-based wifi usb adapter, that would do just fine B)

Music player is left behind, I have some mp3s, but they're just a last case option, most of the time I run music player just to shut the lcd off while transfering files when using batteries

Mostly for SNES emulation. Super Mario All-Stars + World, Super Metroid, Zelda 3, etc. Some MAME for Strider, SFII, and Ghouls and Ghosts.

I've also taken it on trips and put animated movies on it for my daughter to watch. Nemo, Incredibles, Ice Age. Works pretty well, but one wrong button press is frustrating.

I also use it to show off photos with a bigger screen than the camera.

The wife plays Sudoku on it.

My GP2X's primary function is as my Boredom Prevention Unit (BPU). Anytime I expect to be sitting on my ass doing nothing-- bus rides, lying in bed, waiting for a movie to start .. etc. I keep it with me and it never fails to keep me amused. Most of what I do is play games on it-- a combination of emulators and classic FPS'es (Doom, Quake, Wolf3D.)

I play a LOT of MegaDrive/Genesis with DrMDx, especially the Sonic, Ecco and Vectorman games, plus of course the sheer awesome that is Gunstar Heroes. On the NES front, the Mario series, Kirby, Kung Fu, Captain Skyhawk, Guerilla War and Armadillo get a lot of playing time. I don't play SNES games that often, but when I do, I play the hell out of some Super Mario World and Megaman X1-3, also Sparkster. NeoGeo emulation gets a lot of use as well-- mostly Metal Slug 1/2/X, Blazing Star, Strikers 1945 Plus and Puzzle Bobble/Bust a Move. There's also GB emulation; I play a lot of Super Mario Land 2, Quarth, some Tetris Plus and a bit of Pokemon Red/Blue. :) I look forward to GBA emulation so I can throw Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, the Klonoa and Megaman Zero series on here. They'll fit well.

For multimedia purposes, my '2x is my primary music player away from my desktop PC. My 1GB SD card holds a few hours of music with lots of room to spare for everything else, and that's usually all I need access to at one time- not 4GB+ like most dedicated players (or god forbid, 40GB+.) I play the occasional TV episode or movie on there, too. One of the most invaluable features is that it can view photos from my SD card-- and my card is intercompatible with my digital camera! AND my laptop's internal reader! The camera and '2x can both use the same NiMH AAs too. And yes, it's a good machine for porn, I'm not going to lie to you. ;)

Of course, anyone who's been around a while should know I'm a developer; I spend a lot of time programming for the machine. It's a damn powerful platform, and we're achieving some amazing things with it. I'm really looking forward to releasing som more info about me and the rest of the team's projects soon!

My names DBH and I have issues!

When I am not playing my GP2X and have it in my hand I have unhealthy obsessions in cleaning the screen repeatedly until there are no specks of dust on the screen or finger prints and then look at it in the light and repeat. I start cleaning the case as well to get rid of grubby finger marks as well.

ARGHHHHHHHH X__X

Ive worn out my micro fibre gp2x cloth already and Ive only had the thing since the 18th doh

yes I know sad :(

*goes to the pub*

playing dragon warrior 3 on gnuboy right now :D

i used to watch movies w/ tv out but i got tired of having to get up off the couch and run over to reset the gp2x whenever it froze.
