Why would you claim only Linux doesn't like that?Kloplop321 said:you can get a only USB powered Western Digital HDD, but, the power usage is not worth it, and if it gets unplugged, it would be bad.. trust me. Linux does NOT like it's system being pulled out of it like that.

NO OS likes an unplug with a FAT32 filesystem- you typically get all kinds of pain when you do things like that. It's not an "if", but more of a "when" in that respect. Now, having said this... While it's not a good idea to disconnect a true journalling filesystem (Such as ext3, rieserfs, JFS, etc...) it's not got the same problems and the only risk to things is to your data that is in the page cache, which every modern OS has, including Windows. You'll lose data, but not likely to lose the whole lot like you would with a FAT32 filesystem.
Where does he say "only" linux?
Which isn't practical for a hand-held and will dramatically shorten the runtime you have with the battery. With the OS you have on the Pandora, you can actually get a USB powered DVD burner. I've even got one of them for the purposes of DVD boot on some of the hardware around my house. I don't expect to be using my Pandora in this mode of operation except to geek out and show off what a "real handheld gaming machine" can do.PoisonedV said:Or you can get a 300Gb mini hard drive for 50 dollars less.

As a "because I can" item, this stuff's okay. As a usable thing for mobile devices, they're not so hot.

Which is really not an accurate statement- from someone that deals with hot-swap carrier grade Linux systems day-in, day-out.
Still doesn't use the word 'only' though.
I presume Linux was mentioned and not Windows has something to do with the fact that Pandora's OS will be LINUX based and not Windows based.
That's your device and it's driver. I've got a USB WiFi dongle that's not doing that when you do it (I've done it many times before in testing on several distributions...). Heh... Gotta love glitches in device drivers- only way to hang up a box solid is to have one in a driver or a brown-paper-bag moment in some new kernel code.Kloplop321 said:Well linux does not like it when High priority devices are unplugged, such as the WiFi USB dongle on my laptop, it crashes if I remove it while it is on(I have done it on accident several times..)
I am just saying, if you got a program running from the HDD, and it is reading data from the HDD, you are going to have some problems..
