I just tried FF8 as well. Using the same settings as before:
FMVs are about 6-7fps, but seems slightly better than 1/2 full speed.
Walking around says about 14-17fps, but feels more like a little less than 2/3 full speed.
Also, once you get to the main world map, you have to reset psx clock to >58% for it to continue to perform. With that in mind:
Walking around on world map: 12fps
Battles: 10fps avg, seems about 1/2 speed
I guess this game must be rough on the psx because on the world map and in battles, the higher the psx core is clocked, the better the performance, so at about 85%, the numbers above are just slightly better, but the feel is smoother.
Note, glitches on world map: either squall is invisible, or completely black (seems to vary inconsistently with psx core clock). In battles, no menus (but I am familiar enough with the game that I was still able to watch Quezacotl and Shiva do their stuff ).
Also, I'm pleased to announce that the Quistis video no longer crashes the emulator!!
