Your not talking about a 'Pandora Sync' program, you just want a package manager that works on everything. In that case there are people interested but it brings other problems. The package manager poll included some great discussion on how it could work. But it really breaks down to if it will resolve dependencies.
Don't forget that any package manager must also support non-packaged files, such as .zip's.

Yeah, im talkin especially about "Pandora Sync". Pandora Sync tool -> syncronizes all apps from www to pandora sd card. Is it a general problem in here? The name of the app?

Why not cross platform? Skillz?
teasing me :). CrossPlatform ? Sure if i get real Cross Platform [ linux / win32 ] and BUG FREE RAD , i could try use it. Until then ill stay in my windows environment.

anyway, "good to see" orthodox windows haters around. In that matter you're completely the same as windows-lovers guys.

Not sure but I think you just described Java. Maybe that would be a better direction.
Ed; don't forget Osx.

I think again about Sync Suit and I much more like web based application. Thus it can be used from any computer, even from Pandora. Such web based application can be provided by some enthusiast, for some affordable price, or even on own web page regardless if on public web or in PC.

It must have configuration what and from download. It just gather new version and allow download all in one zip or selected files only. So I just download package and unpack it on PC or download separate files just needed directly to Pandora.

Some co-application on Pandora can update all files automatically on user's demand.

I like use Pandora as standalone computer without PC, but some web with simple interface allowing gather newest versions of Pandora's SW, personal setting which applications gather and so on, will be really useful.

Delphi 7 as "BUG FREE RAD"? :) It's far away from bug free and miles away from RAD. Believe me, I using it every day. (please no flame)

Question: what's the point? The Pandora will have this already.
You can use your PC's monitor instead of the Pandora's to install a large array of apps, and then dump the entire lot onto your SD card. This means you have a backup and save battery life. It also means all your saved games can be automatically backed up in case your SD card dies.

It's like, would you browse the internet on your Pandora if your PC was in the same room as you and you could use that instead? I think most people would prefer the later (and most of the above installed would probably have discussion on the forums).

Still, dont get it? dont You? More alternatives are better than one fixed solution, right.
Get back to nineties and check what everyone says about linux :), "its a one-month trend on operating system ground". I mean, more alternatives = more things to choose from = easier, and its true fact.
If you dont want it, you'll dont get it. Simple.

It could be useful, but I beg you to follow good user interface guidelines. It looks pretty terrible as it does now:
  • The window is far too big for whats in it. Simplify the look and try to keep it consistent with the rest of Windows.
  • The tabs are on the bottom, which is incorrect. They should be on the top as they are everywhere else.
Well I was going to continue this list, but I think it's better off if you scrap the UI and start over.

The design will be completely different from what you see here. This is just a concept screen , made to show "whats goin' on" in this app.
Anyway all ideas welcome [ if you have more ]

OK Then :) I just get annoyed at non-standard interfaces.

I voted yes because I agree with the previous in-favor posters. In particular, the flow: sync on PC, transfer to SD card = save battery life, makes perfect sense to me.

That being said, I absolutely need this to be able to run in linux, as I have ditched Windows long ago for desktop use and use only linux.

Yes, I have no problem running win app under Wine. That is provided they do indeed work under wine; and that typically requires specific testing. I'd be happy to help in that area. PM me if you need any wine based testing.

I say "YES".

Pandora itself is a complicated device but that doesn't mean the usage of Pandora should be complicated too. It should be as simple as possible. This is a part of the plan. If you have the knowledge, you can reveal the full power of it. But ordinary people should be able to install anything, synchronize their music or video folder with Pandora even they don't know anything about Linux. Otherwise the sales will not be high enough to make an impact in the market.

GP2X was a good experience for us. I bet the sales will be much higher if it was easier to install games, emulators and other software. Installation procedures were complicated and confusing for most of (non-geek) people.

WINE wouldn't work, it dissent support USB devices.
VMWere is a virtual PC, so you are essentially running windows, which I don't want to do.

The SD card can be mounted as a drive in WINECFG.
I could have sworn I remembered a library you compile into your program that makes it much more wine friendly. I can't find it now, though.

I would love something like this, just for the simplicity of it. Although, being ported to Linux/Mac OS X at some point would be nice too. Definitely a good idea.

I don't know that much code though, so I hope that it's not too difficult, but, if you decide to go through with development of the Sync Suite, good luck!

idea is semi good ... hard to do (wine for linux meh... java ... meh who wants to install that crap on any OS)

I would be pro web interface... like maemo (im pretty sure that the webpage could detect your OS and run an apropriate installer prolly just a .bat or .sh to call the command line installer assumeing apt-get is there or just wget the package unzip and transfer to the pandora) that is pretty neat and works well from the device
what if i sell my computer to buy a pandora then what use is this! X.x

I voted NO, because of that UI. It's the worst thing I've seen in a long time, and I've seen a few stinkers. That app could be much smaller (in terms of screen space) and lose absolutely no functionality at all. I agree with you about the tabs, but what concerns me most is the awful waste of space with poorly done graphics that do nothing.

Er... I can't believe you're making your call based solely on the UI. You should just get an iPhone. In the meantime, read this post:

The point here is that even for a mockup, the author has clearly no clue about what constitutes a decent UI - He could have quite easily just cropped around the smaller portion of the window. I went through a similar phase when I was also something of a noob to programming, but managed to grow out of it. Besides, as it stands, that UI only barely fits on my screen!

As for an IPhone, that has to be the worst example of a user interface I've seen in a long while - worse even than this. I don't own a mobile phone anyway, as I find them pointless :p

I like standards in apps, and this breaks most of them. Hell, I even run Vista in classic windows mode - there's just no need for fancy graphical crap that serves no purpose.
