Pandora: Japan Promo Website. (Warning: It's beta)

Hmmm... besides my general critiques about todays internet sites (white! why everyone uses white backgrounds? it't blinding me! :D use black ,the ONLY colour I would ever do websites ;)  ) the site seems to be bugy in Opera (wrong placement of the Graphics or is this intended)  and completely bugy in Firefox (everything is overlaping). I also miss some clear layout and stuff like frames, lines, borders, anything that segments the site for better overview.

I recommend to use some simpler, plain html code so performance and browser compatibility are maxed out. I guess you use "not-so-standard-stuff" to make this site? At least your code of the site gives me headaches. ^^""

P.S.: tested of course with disabled addblockers and enabled all stuff like JS & Co. Didn't helped much. I use Opera 12.16
i tested it with firefox and chrome on my side and had no problems. nobody uses opera in japan so im not sure i care about opera compatibility. i dont want to use plain html code because i wanted to have this kind of clean slide effect. in case it does nit work with firefox on your side something myst be wrong with your firefox but pls give me more details.

There is no html(5) script to do such slides and multi direction scrolling? Hmm, strange. However, I managed to get it right under Firefox, it seems that noscript still blocked some kind of "ajax" google thingy, I had to disable this manualy, then the site worked.

Not sure what's wrong with Opera, it usualy passes every html test with top scores but in practise there are sometimes weird behaviours. Your side looks like this under Opera:

look's really good, terrific design ;) wish I could program html 5 like that

fusion power, i amnot sure what your html5 knowledge is but most of the effects you see out there are javascript based.
I know it's javascript, I guess this should be also standard enough that Opera can handle it. I don't know every function but it seems that Opera handles some stuff slightly different than other browsers, I don't blame your site, Opera is not perfect but I would never use another browser on my PC. You sayed that Opera is not common in Japan, than I guess there will not be much trouble with your site.

Yes, white backgrounds are a torture.
would it make a difference if i make them light grey?
Yes, grey already can help alot, less contrast can do miracles. In combination with darker grey for fonts (not straight black) you can "smooth" the site even more. Needs testing of course. Same can be done with the other colours but the blue and orange is actualy ok, it's not to bright and saturated.

I use Opera Next ... Which [i believe] does use the same engine as Chrome. Probably why I have no problems viewing your site.

Fusion_Power, not sure why your loyalties sit with Opera but might be worth checking out Opera Next, I find it really nice, 'speed dial', 'stash' and 'discover' are nice features, the workspace is large with not much taken up with the tabs/menu panel. Updates often, which execute seamlessly, never had it crash on me since using it and have been for a while now.

Just thinking you might not tried it and might be an option for you as it is still Opera

Opera Next is sadly not Opera anymore, only Chrome with another name. ;) It's still bugy, lacks of functions and has not my beloved "fit to width" button, a feature that Firefox & Co. still not have at all. (flexible re-formating a website to fit into the width of the screen without resizing text, simple feature but still not available in any other browsers I tested). I really could need this feature onto the Pandora but sadly, Opera does not exist for our Handheld. Many Websites are not made for 800px width sadly.

If you can code, add this please as plugin to Firefox or Aurora or Chrome or whatever, I will use the browser that has THIS feature. At the moment, its still only Opera. But AFAIK, the Firefox/Chrome engines are not even able to do this with websites at all.

I can understand your feelings.. :°(

The functions I miss in Opera Next are many (almost all), but mostly the macros (no other browsers have them, or at least so powerful) and the filters in every sigle tool...

I made some UserJS scripts to correct the viewing of some other sites on Opera... if I find the time I'll have a look at this

why not use this then,

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/

by the ay the reason why there is no opera on the pandora is because they never disclosed their source code.
Tested this addon, could be useful onto the Pandora, thanks. But it's basicly only a "zoom based" tool, not nearly the same as the Opera re-formatting tool. Again, I recommend to test this Opera feature by yourself, it's hard to explain. ;) And there would be no need for the source code if Opera just would release an Pandora port by itself. ^^

I see this on Chrome too, not sure if a very faithful replication of what you require and use in the Opera browser but it does state the following:

This extension implements "Fit to width" feature of Opera browser in Chrome.

Interesting. :)

@ ekianjo : Could you give a brief explanation of the intended purpose of the site, I know you see it as a 'Promo Website', but what does that mean to you?

Is the primary goal of the site to educate or to generate sales to potential customers?

What is more important to you : That the site is as 'nice' as possible when viewed on a desktop monitor or it displaying 'nicely' on as wide a range of hardware as possible?

If the goal is to generate sales then IMHO you should be looking at getting the site to display 'nicely' on as wide a range of hardware as possible.

As I mentioned this is only the desktop site. I will have a different version for mobile and tablets for which this does not work properly. Please bear that in mind.
