I was just wondering if the Chinese factory where the cases are being made at follow fair trade laws. How big is this company? I've never heard anything specific about the company (perchance I missed it in the forums though) besides that they make quite a bit of cases for electronic devices, and that they have quite a number of large orders. If you know anything, or can redirect me to another link, please let me know.

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that, but it's not the usual thing for a company to give away the names & details of their factories (not even OP Ltd!). I might be proven wrong of course, but I've never seen this question answered before.

that's a shame. i wish craigix or evildragon would shed some light on this issue. perhaps they can't though... might get the FTAA after them.

I believe it has been answered before and OP decided not to release the information about where the case is manufactured as most clone devices are produced in the same factory with the same parts as the original, but I can't find a quote.

and the prize for the "theres nothing to moan about today so lets invent something" goes to...

I think its a very valid question, and i'd like to know whether they follow fair trade laws too.

If I would be in the jury for that my vote would be RenegadeChic.

I would gladly pay some bucks more for the Pandora (or any other product) if I know that it is build by people who have proper and healthy working environment and do get proper fees for their work.

Now that I read the question it's so obvious that I think it's sad that it comes up so late.

yeah, it is kinda sad. i believe similar things have come up before, but it's always ignored for some reason. it's atrocious how so many workers are treated in countries like China (long extensive hours, under-aged employees, disgusting pay rate, abuse, etc.).

It's better than having no work at all and dying of starvation. Rome wasn't built in a day, and societies don't start off development as perfect socialist utopias. No matter how you look at it the Chinese are much better off now than they were in the not so far off past.

I don't support (permanence of) bad wages/crazy hours/etc. but I think things improve a lot faster when people have some kind of job and some kind of stability, and it's a whole lot better than much of Africa, or dare I mention Haiti.

you obviously don't know what the hell you are talking about. it's like trafficking combined with slavery. your ignorance is appalling...

Xanas' post made sense to me, I don't think he sounds ignorant at all, although I do agree that places like western europe and the states could support fair trade a lot more. Looking at it from another angle though, people in the UK that are on low wages are going to buy cheaper products, which often doesn't include fair trade items, so I can see why fair trade isn't always used.

I'm ignorant of a lot of things. But, I think that world history has provided substantial evidence that most societies that do well start off by developing economically before they start implementing ideas of additional "rights" (most of which I agree are good things to have, though not necessarily mandated). Those societies which stand on core principles of allowing people to take personal responsibility and have personal freedom to advance themselves do far better than those which mandate government control of every aspect of life. China has done well to get away from their past of trying to do everything for everyone, a past that included trying to provide free health care, support for the elderly, and taking care of peoples children. These things.. didn't work. They failed, and epically at that.

I don't disagree with the core idea that ridiculously long hours and extremely low wages is a bad thing, but what I realize is that we can't make people better. People make themselves better and in turn improve their surroundings. Convincing a man against his will... or trying to save a man by taking away his chance to have a job at all... they both don't work.

well, China is the #1 economic powerhouse right now, and has been in the top 5 for quite some time now... obviously your world history classes have failed you. I agree, you are ignorant on a lot of things. (it's more than low pay and long hours too. sexual abuse, health risks, crowded conditions, etc.) slavery only helps those who own the slaves...

Xanas is right, china is much more better than before even though they are still growing and some regions are still very poor.
the places that has grown is only those that are close to the sea and water ways.

by the other side, everyone wants low cost no contamination bla bla bla. SOMEONE and SOMEWHERE HAS TO DO IT. and it is better than slacking off like some other places.

China is not the #1 economic powerhouse right now. More importantly, sweatshops =/= slavery, because slaves are forced to work without any pay at all. Neither of those things are true for sweatshop workers.

So +1 to Xanas

China was trailing the U.S. and Japan, but they passed them last quarter. By the way... what are you on Aethix? I'll have what you're taking. I take it back, Xanas isn't a moron, you are.

Touché Gruso and Bramrash. I just get too involved and argumentative when people try to justify immoral things. Just shows they haven't lived long enough / experienced enough in life thus far. So... apparently this factory is a sweatshop. The more I search the more I find the tracks covered.
