Exophase
Nothing good will ever come of Exophase.

Of course it can. If there is a £10 difference in hardware price you'll have to have at least a £20 difference to the end customer.
How do you figure? Yeah, craig wants to make a profit, but he's also not going to artificially inflate the price even more if he thinks he'll get as many sales with the higher price over the lower one. It's obvious he's trying to get this as cheap as he can while still being commercially successful.
Although there are other factors that can make an SoC more expensive than its base price.
Anyway, if you look at the market you'll see a lot of devices that are sold for huge profit margins. Sometimes the manufacturers get away with it, sometimes they don't. For instance, the $700 3DO - 3DO Inc never claimed that the hardware necessitated such a high price, but instead said that it was a multimedia center (not a game device) and thus was appropriately priced. The ill-fated Palm Foleo is similar. I think the only reason they expected people to pay $500 for hardware that's weaker than what a lot of modern PocketPC's have (and certainly weaker than the OMAP3430, or even the i.MX31) is because the thing looked like a laptop, and therefore they expect it to be priced like one. The only thing it had going for it that would make it cost significantly more is the screen, but other than that they probably could have made a good profit at half the price.
I fully expect craig to make a machine that isn't just costing what people expect to pay for a machine that does such and such, but something where you really get what you pay for.
