What do you mean "cracked"? It's been possible to run unsigned code for... over a year now maybe? And self-signed code for a few months. Custom firmwares exist. You can run linux and Android.

Okay, and this new firmware doesn't alter that at all? Usually, its advisable to turn off auto-updates once cracks are publicly announced if you plan to avail yourself of said cracks.

It's a hardware issue, they literally cannot patch it without releasing new hardware. Which they will be shortly, but nothing they can do will ever remove the ability for someone to hack the hardware already out there.

Just checked, my Switch is too new for the hardware exploit. Also, there was a software exploit, but it was patched as of 8.0.0, which I already updated to.

Not that I would do anything naughty with my Switch, but um, I can't help being a little curious...

In today's Switch news, the developer of downloadable game A Dark Room snuck a Ruby interpreter into his game for people to use. Nintendo has already laid down the banhammer on it. :(

Funny, it's not that different from FUZE4, a Switch BASIC interpreter coming out in about a month. I guess if you want this type of thing in your product, you need to let Nintendo know ahead of time.

Yeah, I had actually looked in to getting an NS a month or so back, and then realized I needed a pre-dated console to be able to hack, so I dropped out of the race(so to speak). LOL

So while the NS has been opened, "N" fixed the hardware issue that allows for it, and you need to buy a system the is before the hardware revision, otherwise your SOL. They have online SN checkers, so if you have access to a potential early unit, you can use those to see if your good to go or not.

In a worse case, I can always just buy my son a new unit, and transfer his stuff over, and then I could take his launch unit, and use that, but at this point, it's no rush either way. Of course I'm waiting on the Mini, to see if that form factor is better for me, but a hacked unit, is still a hacked unit. More than likely I'll end up waiting for a few years down the road, before I consider the alternatives, as I'm just not that in to the NS currently.

Man, for a game that's supposed to be out this year, there's almost no information on Animal Crossing Switch from what I can find. There's a rumor that says Nintendo plans to make it their main focus at E3, and that's why they've been withholding info on it, but I find that hard to believe in a year that also has a new generation of Pokemon coming out.

One interesting thing I did see was sales for the series. 2 million for Gamecube, 11 million for Wild World on DS, 3 million for City Folk on Wii, then finally 12 million for New Leaf on 3DS. Maybe they plan on delaying the Switch entry's release until they release a more portable Switch? Because apparently people like for their Animal Crossing to be portable.

There is no good reason but Animal Crossing is an insta-buy for me. So I'm patiently waiting for it to be on sale.
Has any new version of the Switch been confirmed by Nintendo yet? I assume they eventually are going to 'switch' to the X2 chip.
Having a new system with Animal Crossing on it would be nice match.

Have you never paid attention to "N" and how they do shit(or don't do shit for that matter)? LOL

Yeah, just because it's due out this year doesn't mean much, as you stated, it could be a big game for E3 and this holiday, or it may get delayed? We could see it at E3, and then see it's due out in the summer, or maybe spring of next year, there's really just no way to tell until they offer up some new info.

I do agree a bundle or push for AC along with a "mini" NS would be great, as NoA offered an AC bundle for the N3DS when the smaller unit finally reached our shores(although it was for a game most didn't want). It would probably be a big system seller, especially if it's $200 for the base system, and maybe $250 with game, or something like that. Sadly, for anyone who is a fan of "N", not getting info, or having delays or lack of info in general is par for their course and not likely to change in my lifetime, so the best you can do is twiddle your thumbs and wait.

Nintendo Switch console sales have now overtaken PS4 console sales in Japan :)
Having been on sale three years less!

These figures take Switch's lifetime sales in Japan to an estimated 8,125,637; the PS4 family (which includes both the standard and Pro models) is now estimated to be at 8,077,757. Considering Sony's machine launched more than three years before the Switch did in Japan, this is quite the achievement for Nintendo - especially when you also consider how strongly the PS4 has performed against its other rivals in Xbox One and Wii U.

lol, Wii U :p
