Nintendo 3DS

@jumpman, u know, I've decided to move my birthday to August 19 for this year. Lol! Its gonna be the best birthday ever.

Btw, they also mention that there will be games that takes advantage of the bigger screen. I think unlike the DSi xl this device might just replace the original 3DS.

Citation, please? This sounds fishy to me, since it's the same resolution, just larger...

It would be utterly foolish to replace a machine with social wireless functions designed around carrying it with you, with a larger version, so I would strongly doubt this.

Try the FPS-style controls (face buttons for movement, Circle Pad for aiming, and the same old L to attack and double-R to align the camera behind you within a second). Nothing painful with those, if that helps any.
I tried every possible combination of keys/screen/stylus etc. for Kid Ic. None were great. Even Games TM (and other mags) stated the control scheme sucked. It was good Nintendo gave other options, but only because they knew that the controls sucked.
Your not alone on this one. KI controls are broke, PERIOD. Cool game with very good production values, but I couldn't take it and sold mine off. If you have to include a stand with a game, that tells me there where issues during production that make such a device necassary.

Rail shooters are one of my all time favorite genres, and this game just didn't fit among the greats IMO(starfox, SF64, Panzer Dragoon, Sin & Punishment, ect.). Yeah, the biggest complaint in any of the reviews where mainly the controls in the ground levels. Sin & Punishment had ground level controls done right, but it was on rails, so I guess I really can't compare the two.

@frz

Yeah, my birthday will be the 19th of August as well this year. LOL

@P.

Thanks for the early B-Day wishes!

^ Heh, I watched that presentation live on the day... They just mean that the bigger screen makes for a good user-experience with those titles - for example, with New Art Academy, you've got more room to move your hand whilst drawing, as a direct result of the larger size. :p It's not really software "taking advantage" of things, so much as it is the size providing an advantage to users who want a larger machine.

I must admit it's very odd that they would continue the 3DS when the XL is only $30 more.

I guess they are saying some people prefer the smaller version(form factor) otherwise they would surely discontinue it.

The DS was discontinued because of the DS Lite, because they fulfilled the same purpose and were aimed at the same market segment. The DSi did not replace the DS Lite, and the DSi XL did not replace either of them, due to being aimed at different market-segments. Such is the case here. No "surely" involved, and absolutely nothing odd about it - just different sectors/tiers of the market.

Hmm, I'm really asking as to why the XL wouldnt replace the 3DS. My guess is that enough people like the smaller form factor.

I figured that was pretty obvious. The majority are always going to want a portable machine to be pocketable. :lol:

Yeah, you would be suprised how many people want to keep their 3DS's(go to gamefaqs and check some of their polls in the 3DS thread). I loved the softer edges of the DSiXL, so this is a must for me. Plus I'm getting older, and the larger screen is also a huge selling point as well, but if I was going to get one for my son, I would for sure buy him the first edition. It would be easier for him to hold, as well as better size for pocket placement.

Plus, now the second hand market for the originals are sure to drop, so you can get a 3DS probably below 130US. That's a great buy.

Depends on your pocket size I guess. I always have thought the XL fits nicely in a pocket anyway.

Sorry to ruin the party and be a party pooper, but I'll have to merge this, because even if it does happen to sustain itself, then we might as well have separate threads for PS3 Phat and PS3 Slim, etc., which will look cluttered in the long run.

Does anyone else find that the "feet" at the front of the 3DS are quite sharp? They are quite uncomfortable on the fingers.

So apparently some of the "exclusive" games that were given to "ambassadors" for their early purchase are now being sold on the e-shop. While I can make no complaints about the fact I got them for "free" while newer users have to pay for them, it still kind of bothers me that they called them exclusive to ambassadors and are now selling them.

Nintendo always stated that the first 10 would be for sale later to non-ambassadors.

1.Beginning Sept. 1st, Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors will be able to download 10 NES™ Virtual Console™ games at no charge and before they are available in Nintendo eShop for the general public. These games, including Super Mario Bros.™, Donkey Kong Jr.™, Balloon Fight™, Ice Climber™ and The Legend of Zelda™, will be released as paid downloadable games, but Ambassadors can download them in advance of launch for free. Once the paid versions of the games are released in Nintendo eShop later in the year, the updated versions will be available to Ambassadors for download at no cost.

Ah, quite right. It's the gameboy advance games that are exclusive to ambassadors. Complaint withdrawn. Sorry for the confusion.

Speaking of the Ambassador NES games, does anyone know if we've got any ETA on the Balloon Fight multi-player update yet?

I know that Ice Climber just hit the Japanese eShop for the general public, bringing with it (as usual) an update for Ambassadors that also includes wireless play, but as anyone who's played Balloon Fight knows, it's absolutely hilarious with multiple people, and is probably more in need of that update right now than any of the others. :p

Because of that and the fact that I know you will get your 3DS XL before me, I hate you. just kidding

Yeah, I don't know about this, "small 3ds will be for the kids" and all. Bigger is better, and the overall size is pretty much the same. The only thing the origianl 3ds will have going for it is its lower price. All the kids gonna want the larger units once it hits game stores. When the DS lite came out, just about everyone dumped their DS phat for it, including me. This 3DS XL is nothing like the DSi XL. The DSi XL was a trial and error, bulky with slightly bigger screens. It didn't have the same appeal as the 3DS XL have, has the DS lite before it and GBA and GBA SP had.
