Nintendo 3DS

I wonder if the WII Pu controller will become a handheld in its own right? Presumably they have thought of this, actually do they have SD slots?

Just dont get it with nintendo underpowered hardware mediocre games good advertising you guys are such suckers.

little miss high standards...a sony product i can understand, but this is one of the rare things capcom is doing right, unless you know something i dont.....besides the localisation of the one thing theyre doing right....yeah you know what, fuck em all :|
I doubt they'll localise it - it's increasingly looking more and more like Capcom are heading in the direction of pulling out of the Western markets altogether, to me...

1: No-one in the real world cares about "power" - they care about what a product brings to their life.

2: Their games are pretty damn good (though personally I don't like the 3D Mario games or modern Zelda titles - those aren't to my taste). There's a reason that all ten of the top-selling games ever are Nintendo's (also, 19 of the top 20; 25 of the top 30; And so on) - they're what the vast majority want to buy.

3: I don't really see any advertising around, funnily enough.

We're definitely not suckers, but if we are, then it's certainly better than being so rude as to unfoundedly call people such just because the tastes of the majority don't align with your own.

underpowered hardware mean cheaper console have you seen the price of console lately? it's always fun to compare sony, MS and Nintendo prices... and power does not really matter for console, games are designed to fit the console, they might get better graphics, but graphic isn't what is making a game better.

if you're really interested in getting better graphics take a PC not a console.

If thats the case why not go back to the neogeo that was the last console that really pushed the boat out for me way ahead of its time but still had the old school asthetics that pulled you into gaming gameplay was everything back then and not mickey mouse fads like gaming today.

That just doesn't make any sense...

Well your saying power doesnt matter so why not stick to old school games where gameplay is what drives a game rather than tech or cpu muscle i wish games could go back to that age at least i lived it rather than the fads that people put up with today

Games driven by gameplay are precisely the reason that I have a 3DS. And it's precisely what made the DS and Wii the best-selling consoles that they are. That's especially why the DS is currently the best-selling console of all time, too.

Besides, weren't you the one saying something about power, before? ;)

Power for tablets and emulation yes for gameplay ? that's a whole new ball park you dont need power or 3d to have good games id dare anyone to say otherwise case in point i use to swear by the psp powerful at the time but used to play a lot of homebrew puzzle games like droplets and simpler games like lumines more than anything else the old school games of the eighties and nineties are more endering than anything released in the current gen.Thats why devices like the pandora and other emulation systems are so popular.

I think you already did. ;)

Unfortunately, this point falls down here: Such devices are not popular. They are a tiny niche. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's best to accept what things really are and enjoy them for what they are.

^ That's a bit old, and your words are highly misleading: They made one loss. One is not a trend. (Additionally, the loss made by Nintendo was ten times lower than the one that Sony made at the same time, at that - with Sony, it is a trend, as they have been making losses for almost a decade, now. Perhaps you should direct hope at them, instead? They appear to actually need it.)

As for the 3DS, that's due to return to profitability by September - this is also very old news, as it was reported at the very same investor-meeting that the link you posted refers to.

That said, this is a bit moot: The problem was the Yen more than anything else. It's not even like the linked report was being misleading about that, as it's mentioned clearly. Shame about the misleading tosh about analysts, though - I feel sorry for anyone who believes those sorts.

Hmm, not to upset you further but by some losses I had meant 2 half's in a row, that is some.

I think your also simplifying the reasons they are losing moeny if you think the issue was just the yen . The president of Nintendo has quoted many times that the loss was caused by several factors, he has always claimed that the emergence of smartphone games has eaten into there profit. He has also claimed the cheap games for smart phones have dissuaded people from buying Nintendo games and that a segment of gamers have moved to mobile smartphone games. He is on record several times as saying the above reasons for there losses. The yen is a factor but not the only factor and Nintendo know that.

^ I never said it was the only factor (transition and other hardware undoubtedly are, too). ;) I'd certainly like to see citations for the two halves thing, though (can't say I've heard anything about that), as well as proper, from-the-source ones (to avoid press spin) on the things "the president" (which one?) has said about telephones and so on, if I may, please.

I'm certainly not upset - it's just that seeing the same claims from gamers (or press outlets with agendas) regurgitated over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over (usually in the form of guesses from analysts and suchlike) just gets immensely irritating after a while. Same nonsense, different year (for example, these are from 2004, but with a couple of changes you could pass them off as current), y'know? Gets boring. Been going on since at least 1989, though, so I really shouldn't be surprised.

I think I had posted the links to the stories back when the profit report came out re: Nintendo president bashing the cheap prices of smartphone games and claiming they are ruining the gaming industry . He also went on about how this new smartphone/mobile gaming segment is eating into Nintendo's profit . At the time he was harping on and on about it. Most stories about the Nintendo profit loss pretty much mentioned his words re: the smartphone/mobile segment biting into there profits.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying there about to bite the bullet but they do need to turn around sharply. I said at the time that when they dropped the price of the 3DS and started selling more of them that it didn't necessarily mean they were now profiting from the extra sales. The story above highlights that they are not . ie that they are selling the 3DS at a loss, mind you that should change as the component prices drop as the tech ages.
