Nope, I just watched some people play it (various systems) but overall, I judge by the TV Show that really did not help to see the games in a good light, even if they were good.Right, the TV show is absolutly horrible, but do you have played one ?
Exactly because of THIS! :lol:Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off agaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain!~
If you ever watched the original YuGiOh series, it was a lot better, though no official English version, so you have to find the fan translations; but that's getting off topicAnd I really imagine how YuGiOh players behave exactly like the guys in the Anime series. You know, with alot of battle talk and overacting card moving gestures... XD
Apparently the Pokemon manga is regarded better. I will admit to a soft spot for the TV series, though - but then, I love shows like that, that don't always take themselves too seriously. :lol:Nope, I just watched some people play it (various systems) but overall, I judge by the TV Show that really did not help to see the games in a good light, even if they were good.Right, the TV show is absolutly horrible, but do you have played one ?
And I actualy liked most of the "Digimon" Series or even "Monster Ranger", but Pokemon just was to much for me. ^^
And I love Team Rocket... Most of my favourite characters in most things are anti-heroes and villains, though. And they have a talking cat! A TALKING CAT!!Exactly because of THIS! :lol:Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off agaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain!~
I understand that this is called "milking the giant cow".and overacting card moving gestures... XD
I wouldn't mind trying my hand at contributing a monster or two, if you're open to that when the time comes.Absolutely, though I wasn't really thinking contest, more of like an open participation. But, yeah, there's plenty to decide on before I'm ready to start that side of things
Thanks, I'll take a gande. slaeshjag has also sent me a link to his engine to look at. That said, I'm half considering something slightly different than your usual RPG world view, but we'll have to see how well I can wrap my head around coding it.Here's some resource that may be of use to you:
Making more than 100 monsters is easy, making more than 100 *useful* monsters, not so much. To be honest, I'm not sure we need that many. Pun aside, this game will probably evolve a fair bit as it gets developed.I'm sure making moe than 100 monsters would be the biggest problem here.
Well, when creating the damage matrix for the various types, I've made sure each type has 1 "super effective", 1 "not-very effective", and 1 "totally resistive" type. This means every type should be counterable. Same with damage statuses like "Burn", each will have their own, so that none have an edge. Also balancing is difficulty. At least we don't want to have 1-2 best types of monsters and a perfect team everyone uses.

That then just boils down to combining monster, with level, and attack. Even then, the effective/resistive effect should help remove a "perfect team".
Again though, this is going to require plenty of testing and tweaking.
Still takes too long and bugs meYou know, you can fasten the text in the settings dialog at start?
And always pressing B instead of A for the next text!
Regarding open source, I'm not technically against it, but I might not make it public until further down the line. I guess it depends how confident I feel with the source. But a nice idea. I hope of an open source attempt so that I can try to compile it for my gp2x, too
No, in fact: If you start something completely new, PLEASE don't make it fix for 800x480. Use some kind of flexible resolution. Especially if you plan a Linux and Windows version a pokémon clone at 1920 x 1080 would be amazing.
I don't intend to use characters from other places, it's just an unnecessary risk.Do you want to creste your own game?
We also could "steel" characters from other games.
I've never played the FF games, so have no idea how they work. Again, I was thinking of changing the battle slightly, but in what way, I don't know.Do you want to keep the Pokemon-style fighting system?
Wouldn't it be nice to make a combination out of Final-Fanatsy and Pokemon?
