I think Craig has a plan

They claimed the high failure rate was due to a bad PCB design from Michael.
lol, that's News for me, so everything is actualy MWestons fault?

Pretty lame excuse from CC, because most of the Pandoras work perfectly and GC proofed that they can handle the PCB. It's a complex one, but I feel that Michael did a good and solid job with the board layout.

Yep, exactly. But this was probably the only thing they could tell as we couldn't easily proof it without setting up production in a different company.

Okay, just some quick addition here:

I updated the upgrade-possibilities on my shop (check here: https://www.dragonbox.de/en/27-main-consoles-and-upgrades )

It's now easier to choose whether you want a new case or not (you can do that directly on the order page).

Out of curiosity, did the GC Rebirth editions use the same board design as the CC busted version, or did MWeston make any changes to it? If it was the exact same then they're completely out of line blaming it on him.

The Rebirth are a more recent revision, but nothing of the complicated parts (SoC, etc.) has been changed, it was only minimal changes.

Any expert would agree those changes wouldn't have caused this.

Every board house I've ever dealt with has adjusted the layout of my boards to fit their process.

They will adjust the trace width to get the impedance right, adjust the pad size, the solder mask & solder paste screen to get an appropriate amount of clearance & solder on the pads. Anything that could possibly affect the yield, they will adjust. I've even had them edit the silkscreen if they were afraid part of the silkscreen might put epoxy where they need solder to flow.

If CC did not do this, then it is their fault the yield was bad.

Doesn't Craig always have a plan , Even while drunk and making Jaffa cake ? Ok admittedly the plans can be a Lil half baked from time to time ... But he hasn't killed himself on Kontra yet ... So that must mean they work well enough for him to still live :p

great options there now, very tempting to upgrade my CC to a Rebirth. Question: does the Rebirth come with the silver case or do i get it in my old black case? I've some strange white lines in the background of my LCD when displayed stuff is rather dark (can take a picture if you want). Is that some LCD cable issue?

The upgrade is only for the board - however, if you buy the silver case too, you'll get it back in the new case. Because that's literally what I've just done :)

Even easier now - just select "want new case as well" when ordering the upgrade to get a new case :)

I updated the upgrade-possibilities on my shop (check here: https://www.dragonbox.de/en/27-main-consoles-and-upgrades )How come you don't have a Preorder to Rebirth? I'm sure a number of preorders might go for that at the right price (assuming that it's feasible from DragonBox's PoV)Was Timstertoo right that the rebirth 600MHz boards are no longer produced?
Well, the preorder-upgrade works only, because I offer it for production cost price.

I can't offer it for a lower price. :(

And the production costs for the 1GHz and Rebirth unit are the same (1GHz is even 2 EUR less).

Right now, no 600 MHz boards are in production, as new sales only happen for 1GHz units and I've still got quite a few left.

Hope you have not much 600M chips left :/.

Maybe you can sell some as collectors ?

I'm tempted to send my old CC unit in for upgrade to a Rebirth edition.  I have a few questions.

For those of us in the US, can this be fulfilled through Link so we can decrease shipping costs?

Is there a page with the shipping instructions for sending the old CC unit back?  Specifically I would like to know if we're to include or leave out our battery when we send it - cheaper and safer without it I'd think.

Now for the weird...

I would like to keep my original black base plastic piece with my first batch sticker, black stylus and my original LCD, but have everything else swapped out - yes this means that this Pandora will be black & silver.  I'm fine with that.  Is this level of customization on the upgrade possible?

Thank you.

Thanks for the clarification

ED,

Tried the add a case option and once I add case it will not add it to cart.  I added one without a case fine.  Also can you add "add a new LCD cable"  I've got the old one and might as well fix it all at once...  Thanks

Les

What happened there?

I was looking at your shop and you only seem to have bundle deals for the 1GHz edition.

Have you considered adding bundle deals for the 600MHz edition to see if you can sell some of them that way?

It may also be worth putting the standalone Rebirth edition and Classic Edition entries directly underneath the standalone 1Ghz edition entry.   That way if someone is put off by the 1GHz edition price, they will be able to immediately see that there are cheaper options.

Edit:  Also, as odd as this may sound, it may be worth choosing alternate images to represent the Rebirth and Classic editions.   Even though there is no visible difference between units, showing it from a different angle will highlight the fact that it's a different product, and make it easier to differentiate the listings at a glance.
