Here's today a full feature on how to port an application, together with an example on the Dillo Web Browser, from Dredd.

Probably interesting for those interested to do their first ports but unsure how to proceed!

That's great... The first paragraph is an exact copy of my mind when I think about developing on the pandora...

and I have to admit that the article is yummy..

14:36 < _wb_> wow, how many pictures of semi-nude women can you put in a tutorial on how to port stuff?
14:36 < _wb_> http://www.pandoralive.info/?p=485
14:37 < bobbens> _wb_: not enough
14:38 < dreamer> yeah hehe. what do you mean sexist?
14:38 * dreamer waits for feminist ddos
14:39 < _wb_> well such posts do kind of confirm the stereotypical image of male nerd devs
14:40 < dreamer> this may also be deterring to any gay devs
14:43 < bobbens> not sure pandora development has many devs to deter :|
14:43 < _wb_> I don't really like the use of pictures of sexy women as random but irrelevant eye candy to sprinkle around
14:44 < bobbens> you could also say they're 3D girls not 2D, so that deters Cloudef
14:44 < _wb_> like e.g. the banners of these posts: http://www.pandoralive.info/?p=283 and http://www.pandoralive.info/?p=100
14:45 < dreamer> bobbens: potential users/devs then
14:45 < bobbens> I would prefer pictures of cats
14:45 < bobbens> everyone likes cats
14:45 < dreamer> we're just having a major discussion at our hackerspace about attracting more women. and how 'male dominant culture' deters them in tech
14:45 < _wb_> it feels like cheap advertizing trickery to me
14:45 < dreamer> bobbens: yeah exactly. cats would've been 100x better
(from #openpandora)

cats? not everybody love cats, I wants.... RABBITS! :D (and semi nude woman?)

So you start a conversation with a strong opinion, find someone to somewhat agree on a random irc channel and you feel the urge to commit this here...

You know, if you feel the urge to find some more heads to agree with your opinions, may be your opinion are not that common....

And because, that's the 3rd time you bring sexism on the table in the past 6 month, I'll remember you what prometheus (a girl) told you the first time : I could'nt care less.

(may be if you had more women around you, you would have realise that most women dont care about that : most their products are advertised this way anyway)

That's somehow the instruction I was looking for.

If only it wasn't so much.

I also don't see any reason for ssh.

Pandora keyboard is great.

Use it a lot at University.

10 x "+" for the idea - really really good to have an example for how easy it is to get a foot in the door when its about starting to develop on/for the Pandora on such an "exposed" place.
But the pictures - seriously ? How old are you guys 11 or maybe 12 ? Is this how you want the Pandora and its community to be represented ? A bunch of

undereducated teenagers that are unable to outgrow their childish interest for the physical charactersitics of the other gender ?

if thats really the point you guys want to make, thats fine by me - but also the point where I start recommending to people to skip that nonsense blog.

Relax. We got the feedback, we'll avoid this kind of things in the future. Personally I think it was a way to make a long and otherwise dull development article more fun to read in the end. I hate tutorials which are walls of texts with no humor whatsoever.

Seriously, complaining about cleavage? Theres no nudity and it made me chuckle seeing the pics along a tech heavy article.

Good show man, ignore the haters.

;)

As a german, I can confirm these USK priorities, but at least they have no problems with nudity or sexuality (because we learn about this "stuff" already in ground school 4th grade ;)  ) I'm almost sure ESRB is the same like USK but with sexuality.

If beautiful, non nude woman already make you nervous, then I recommend to get psychological help or something like this, seriously.

I think you're reading too much into my use of a copy/paste from IRC. I was just too lazy to re-formulate that stuff in a style more suitable for a forum.

Right, so because 1 woman didn't care about 1 instance of sexism, the issue is non-existent and I'm not allowed to talk about it more than twice per six months? (please point me to these other two instances because I completely forgot about them)

I think neither of us knows over 50% of the female world population personally, so let's not make big claims about what "most women" do or do not care about. The fact that lots of advertisements are sexist does not imply that this is OK.

I know what you mean, but isn't it better to let women defend themselves if they have issues with that kind of things? A man defending women in their stead could be considered sexist as well :) as if they are not strong/mature enough to defend themselves :)

This being said, there's a lot of hypocrisy in this kind of debate. The truth is, lots of women like to show themselves and their appearances, like to buy cosmetics to make themselves more attractive, like to wear revealing stuff without having any pressure from Men to do so. It's so obvious you don't need to make a poll about this to know how much % it represents. In most of the developed world women are now free and financially independent and they still choose to wear women clothes.
