How to calculate a price for the Pyra

plus whatever UPS decides to pillage
Link was quickly convinced not to use UPS for this exact reason. I think all shipping is DHL or USPS.
The one time I bought something from ThinkGeek, I discovered that DHL takes the same obscene cut. Luckily, I seem to remember him saying that he started using USPS for Canadian orders after they changed their policy on shipping gizmos with lithium batteries.

On topic: Got more prices, started doing the proper calculations: Right now it looks like we can keep planned 500 - 530 EUR sales price for the Pyra.

My googlefu suggests that's currently around £360, what do I have to take into account when converting that into GBP?  Do I have to add some sort of tax/VAT to get an indicative price?  Am I looking at around £400 assuming the Euro stays in the gutter (thanks Greece).

I think now when buying from another european country you pay the VAT of your country ?

Buying for bicycle gear from a German shop, shipped to France, I was paying the german VAT before but I think last time I paid a different VAT (probably French ?). I'm not too sure about that but there has been a change recently I think.

I dunno. I paid 19% VAT on my Pandora purchases, which is the German percentage. I live in Belgium where VAT is 21%.

Yes, dragonbox shop should automatically assign the correct VAT when you select where you live.  Non-EU citizens don't pay any as source (they pay on receipt) but EU citizens should automatically have the correct VAT added to the ticket price.  Not sure what went wrong with yours _wb_, but if I were you I wouldn't complain ;)

Does this mean US citizens will have to pay VAT too?

No. Within the EU, you pay German VAT (19%), outside of the EU, customs grab the VAT from you, though AFAIK US customs don't grab any VAT exported from Germany.

^ Thruth with modification. Within EU, you only pay german VAT as long as the value of the exported goods by that company doesn't exceed about €10'000 per member state. So, unless you sell more than 20 pyras to a country inside EU per year, german VAT applies.

Some shipping companies will charge duty (and a "convenience" fee for doing it) automatically (UPS, such a butt!)If they don't, and the item is not exempt, then you're supposed to declare and pay it yourself although most stuff it honestly isn't worth the bother (not that I'd ever recommend not paying your full due taxes, that would be fraud  )

I think I remember the Pandora being exempt, shipping to North America, and there's no reason the Pyra shouldn't be as well. Although that was before Link started selling them, and I think "official North American supplier" changes the rules so maybe it is taxable now.

Ahh, damn. We need to use UPS as signed mail and normal DHL doesn't allow shipping batteries anymore.

So best way would probably be through Link as well.

Bulk would come in through UPS, I also have a local company here that can handle freight and customs brokerage for me to totally cut UPS out of the loop.  Good news is that now USPS allows for shipping of batteries, so for small retail orders, USPS will keep the shipping rate low and just be included with the price of purchase for US domestic orders.

Canada, I'll ship USPS as well and just charge some shipping to those customers.  Canadian customers would pay VAT/Tax upon entry to Canada as device is made in Germany. If it was US Made, I believe it would be exempt due to NAFTA.

Yeah. I'm ok paying the duty, it's the extra $20+ UPS charges for "helping" with it that grinds my gears.
