Still fresh, damnit!
And how much of that is from your hands heating the phone with that sort of game anyway? My old phones that were not much faster than a GBA got noticeably warm if I held them to play a game for a long time.
That was an surprisingly detailed explanation. I would have skipped that kind of thoughts actualy if I would made such an handheld and just use an all metal case to be on the safe side.Hot air rises - that is a fact. BUT - it doesn't rise because it is hot. It rises because it decreases in relative density.
For gases, PV=nRT.
For a given number of molecules (n) of gas, if the temperature (T) increases, one or both of the pressure (P) and/or volume (V) must increase proportionally. In open atmosphere, the pressure (P) is a relative constant. So, as the volume (V) expands and the mass/molecules (n) remain constant, it's density (mass per cubic unit) decreases and the warmer, less dense, gas will rise while cooler more dense gas flows in around it to replace it. With a continued source of heat the cycle can repeat or be continuous. This is heat driven convection.
Within a solid object, heat will travel down at pretty much the same speed as it will travel up or sideways. It can actually be measured in it's advancement through solid objects with a common unit being W/mK
http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/thermal-conductivity-d_429.html
Silica Aerogel ~ 0.02
Wool blankes score ~ 0.04
Polycarbonate transports heat through itself at 0.19 W/mK
Steel is ~ 43
Aluminum is ~ 200
Copper is ~ 370
Silver is ~ 429
Diamond is ~ 1000
Annectdotally, heat moves through butter and coal at roughly the same rate as polycarbonate. Butter simply has a lower melting point and it can be notoriously difficult to get a fire hot enough to push enough heat in to ignite Anthracite coal. The point is, though materials may have similar heat transfer properties there are are other properties that make them better or worse at specific applications.
'nuff physics for one day.
With antennas housed in a plastic logo insert? That was an surprisingly detailed explanation. I would have skipped that kind of thoughts actualy if I would made such an handheld and just use an all metal case to be on the safe side.
I'm sure antennas would be no problem, otherwise there would not be any full-metal-smartphones out there. You can always hide antennas behind some plastic areas or the screen or a logo or whatever. That was never the issue, only the price in case of the Pandora/Pyra.With antennas housed in a plastic logo insert?

Strictly speaking, AIUI, it was an issue with the iPhone 4 because the metal band *was* the aerial, and by bridging it certain ways you'd short it out. Metal cased devices have crap wifi because the case acts as a faraday cage - which is a little different.
Well with all the additons to the WIN, it looks like they had to make one sacrifice. From bad chinese to english translation ie I'm not 100% sure on this, it seems they had to axe one of the speakers to fit the fan.
They really start to make bullshit. Plastic case, mono speaker. Soon they are going to remove the heatsink or what?
Starting to regret your switch from Pyra to GPD-WIN ?They really start to make bullshit. Plastic case, mono speaker. Soon they are going to remove the heatsink or what?
Not really, as I told, it's a matter of money. I changed to GPD Win, because I can't afford the Pyra. With my prepreoder, I paid the Win. I would have keep the Pyra if I would have be able to.Starting to regret your switch from Pyra to GPD-WIN ?
I hear that GPD are planning a early morning stealth mission . They aim to enter your house when you and your family are sleeping. Once in, they plan to eat all the food in your fridge, take a dump in your toilet(without flushing) and then give your family permanent orange afros. I could be wrong though, I read it via dodgy Chinese to English translation
Jokes aside, as I said on Dingoonity, the metal case was not promised in the beginning. Actually it's only recently been mentioned. So it's a recent add and delete. The speaker is a little dissappointing. But we must remember also the things that have been added like the Fan, updated heat sink, upgrade to the Z8700/Z8750 and the upgrade to a 6900mAh bigger battery.
Also, I think I said this a few pages back when the metal case was first thought to be going. But apparently it added a fair amount of weight - about 100g, so going back to plastic means the weight will go down again. It would have been sweet though.
