my favorite quote from there:
I've landed up with something similar for my DS lite when I bought it second hand. It's hard plastic, and supposedly contains extra better speakers in the hand grips, but they're in a stupid place and unlikely to be big enough to be any good, so I've never put batteries in it. But I did use it when transitioning from a PS controller to my DS lite and it did help as is. Maybe a silicone version using a similar mould will not be too wobbly to be of no use while still being foldable to put in a pocket - as is the hard (maybe ABS or nylon) version I've got requires a big pocket to be carried in.
Something similar for the Go, it really helps, definitely a take on holiday item.
It's just a plastic thing though, no thrills.
Do people think they're likely to do a GPD Pocket 2 after this is out? After owning a GPD Win 1 and making some use of it the one thing i've found is i'd really appreciate a bigger screen - a while the GPD Win 2 does indeed have a bigger screen, I think if they're likely to do a Pocket 2 i'd rather wait and back that.
Hmm, although saying that, the Pocket 2 is missing the gaming controls, but I did preorder a Pyra which kinda covers the gaming, the GPD Win has been used for more productivity type stuff.....decisions......
It'd be a shame if they didn't do a Pocket 2, as I rather like the form factor. But I wouldn't be at all interested if there was a price spike like there was between the Win 1 and the Win 2. But the fact they're making a new XD shows that they don't seem to disregard old product lines too easily.
This was my quick look of the GPD WIN 2
That's a rather noisy keyboard for a portable device I think, but that might just be my concern. Also those speakers distort quite a lot when turned up high - but all speakers will distort if over-driven, so that's not always a bad thing. Be interesting to see how other devices compare, including what volume they can pump out clean audio to though.
Apparently a number of issues reported in these test WIN 2 prototypes have now been fixed ready for the production run. GPD just made an IGG update regarding this. One of the issues they fixed was to do with Audio. Here is a list of the prototype issues that were noted and are now fixed, this is from their last IGG update:
Until now, we have settled the following WIN 2 issues.
1. Corrected the display chip program bugs and settled the issue of bad screen when playing some games.
2. Corrected the audio circuit and settled plosive sound issue.
3. Optimized the grounding in SSD circuit and changed the supplier of SSD card which can avoid the SSD damage because of static.
4. Optimized the Wi-Fi chip and driver and settled the problem of abrupt disconnection of Wi-Fi.
5. Renovated the molds structure’s accuracy, including TF card slot interface gap and the keyboard button structure which can lengthen the keyboard life time.
6. Solved the problem of the structure of the screen fit which can avoid light leakage.
7. Optimized the charging circuit. WIN 2 is compatible with all the power adapter and power bank which based on PD protocol on the market.
I'd very much like a Pocket 2. The current Pocket is a stunning device, but for only two issues - charging (I can't believe I'm saying this) and keyboard layout. Specifically, the QWERT row being offset slightly too far to the left. The rest of the keys are totally fine.
Charging is a PITA - it's quite common for the device to be plugged into the mains, and later shutdown due to a low battery while still plugged in. That happens regularly, and it's just so annoying.
@ZXDunny what OS do you have there? I'm using Stretch with Mate and this charging thing doesn't happen to mine, admittedly the charge hardly increases if it's on and plugged in. I do tend charge overnight when shutdown more often than in use though.
I'm still running the Win10 that came pre-installed, and don't have any issues with charging/low battery; but I agree that if they fix the keyboard layout, that'd be definitely be of interest to me
Win10, as preinstalled.
Ah, here's a thought. What ampage is your USB port giving you? Could it be it that your charger isn't providing enough current to keep it going?
It sounds like you're using a USB 2.0 power source, which can't really keep up with a x7-8700 in a Surface 3 or as a source for GPD's handhelds. In my experience proper USB-C power sources are able to charge up GPD's handhelds at a very respectable rate while on and doing stuff, just like they do with the Switch.
Personally I use Anker power bricks. Anker has a good reputation and I've been able to get them at a good price on Cyber Monday.
Using the charger that came in the box with the Pocket. I'll have a look around and see if I can nab a better one.
Edit: Damn media tags
I bought these below
Not really sure why I didn't stick to a USB-C to USB-C, but not had any problems with them
Looks like the new version of Citra (3DS Emu) runs decently on the WIN 2
I asked GPD on twitter if they had plans for a Pocket 2 and they said yes... but not soon.
Do we have a firm date on the release?
Could that 3ds emulator run fully on pyra or not?
