I was not aware the battery was such a design bottleneck on the pandora/pyra. Thought that was one of the first parts to be done, and was an outsourced part anyway.
? Why should the battery be an issue? No one said that, only that the battery on the GPD Win seems to have a lot of issues.
Coordination doesn't mean handing the project over. Maybe step back a bit from the glass house stone throwing. The parts that have historically caused issues on the pandora/pyra are the parts that GPD does well.
I think it's a mixed bag. The GPD Win had a lot better designed case than the Pyra and Pandora. I had hoped that Form Action would be able to upgrade our Pandora design to keep functionality but make it look better.
Didn't work, but I still plan to work on that in the future.
The keyboard depends on the user. Some like clicky domecaps, some like a rubbermat better.
The DPad of the Pandora is still a lot better than on the GPD Win.
The nubs of the Pandora have issues, as we all know, but while I like the Vita's nubs (the one the GPD Win uses) for gaming, I don't like how the mouse mode is implemented (it has one speed which can be changed with a button press, it doesn't use the analog functionality of the sticks at all)
The battery is a lot worse on the GPD Win, as it fails and puffs often and pretty early in it's lifetime.
Cooling is a lot better in the Win - mostly because they have a better case company and can easily do changes whereas I am afraid even a small change will delay the case for months, so I have to squeeze a good cooling into our existing environment.
As mentioned, as soon as the money is there, I plan to work on improvements maybe with a design company around my area.
And maybe with the help of the community. Once the case files are out and the Pyras are in the hands of users, I can imagine suggestions will come
LCD Cables fail in both systems, so that's another draw
Not sure what you mean with the glass house. I'm not sitting here and throwing stones, I am just stating what I think is good and not so good, but both for the Pandora/Pyra and the GPDs.
There's no bashing going on here.
I'm also not sure what you think GPD fixed that the Pandora had issues with (except for the disaster in Britain...)
The GPD Win has the better case, analog sticks and faster SoC (which is not really a fix, as the Pandora was fast when it was shipped as well), but the DPad and battery is worse.
The keyboard depends on whatever you prefer.
I don't think the GPD Win is a better device or a "fixed" Pandora. It's a similar device with different use cases and other issues.
The perfect device would be a mixture of both
That said, the missing trackpoint and weird keyboard layout still is an issue in my opinion for the GPD Pocket 2.
The GPD Pocket 1 did better.
