NO!!! there will not be any *playable* N64 or PSX emus.

The Giz 1 is now dead because they will make the widescreen one to replace it. The DRM in the WS Giz will probably be wicked. It will be cracked like any but it will be a looooong time.

Don't be so sure about PSX... :)

Somebody is working on a PSX-emulator for the GP2X, but don't expect it to ever get playable.

might there be any gizmondo emu for it? it would be great since they use SD cards for the giz

Actually, I do expect it to get playable. It may not run Tekken 3 or the last Ridge Racer to come out for the PSX, but I'd wager it could run the few 100% 2D games on PSX rather well. What were there... Some platformers, few rpg's, those Micromachines games, Bomberman...

I think someone said, that FF7 was playable on similarly specced PDA...

(Of course, if by playable one means "60 FPS, not an increment less!!!", they might be disappointed...)

Also, never say never. In 2015, when nobody codes for GP2X anymore, and there still isn't a PSX emu for it, I can say, that "there never was a PSX-emu for the GP2X then, huh?" But to say there never, ever will be, is foolish, and defeatism, and unpatriotic, whereever you happen to live.

I don't think Castlevania will be playable at a decent framerate (not necessarily 60fps) on a GP2X PSX emulator. That was a pretty crazy 2D game, though.

No the Gizmondo with the smaller is not dead and it will be sold together with the widescreen version. Since they are going to still produce the smaller screen version after the launch of the widescreen I suppose that the price will be the only thing that makes Tiger Telematics continuing producing it.

but still... the gizmondo is not open source... you would have to crack that thing open and even then tiger telematics could still do "Firmware upgrades" like sony.....

so i would go with the gp2x cos you cant be too sure if the giz will ever have a big community :/

The PSX cannot do true 2D, so even the 2D games you've played (such as Castlevania: SotN) are still using a 3D engine... just fills a polygon, textures one-side of it and keeps that side facing the same way.

Just thought I'd throw that out there, but it may be irrelevant anyways cause I've seen decent PSX emus on similar spec handhelds, and the guy who is working on it seems to be a very gifted coder, so you never know.

megaman x4 is the best of the psx X series. man, did those games get shitty or what! x7 on ps2 was complete shit, too. x8 is so so to me.

anyway, so you're saying that it's not 2d, but still 3d using planes(flat polys)?

That is correct, it can still completely capture and emulate a 2D look and feel but it is still all being rendered with a 3D engine.

I found an article about it not too long ago, if I find it again I'll post it. It was something about how Saturn could handle 2D games better than the PSX(not including ports such as Nocturne in the Moonlight which didn't utilize the Saturn's true 2D capabilities) due to the 2D engine and accelerator that it had.

They have already done the firmware upgrades thing ;). I am not saying that I will choose Gizmondo and I will most likely not. I will probably wait the XGP release and then decide which one to buy because I like the XGP big screen and probably decent (not great but something) commercial support (3D games would be very cool if they are properly done) I don't care about the DMB TV that can be used only in Korea because the other handhelds don't have it so it doesn't make a big difference and if the homebrew scene is working as good as the GP32 one is I am sold. I would love XGP to double as a GSM though that it is very unlikely to happen I don't care that much about it and I also expect the price to be a little bit cheaper than the PSP so I think that it worths the 3-4 months waiting after the GP2X release just to decide which one to buy when you have the choice.
