I wouldn't call it cheapskate £15 per buy for downloads is gonna be a fair bit of money if enough people buy it, the thing that bugs me about consoles is how they start at £40 and in a few weeks its £30... then a few more weeks and its £20... its annoying
I can understand why they do that. They know that within weeks some toerag will have it on some warez site. They have to recover their investment while interest is highest and they still control availability. Once it is available as warez they have to compete by making the real thing more affordable. It sucks, but there will always be some no-talent kid who can impress his peers by stealing roms and people who want something for nothing. If they kept the initial price low would more people own it legitimately ? I wonder if they have ever researched this.
You have to take tax and bandwidth off that price and remember this is a relatively small user base.

Yep, thats totally true.

For Nebulus I havent put the enhancement we have made (except the water).
And for Another World we have developed very closely to make a new deluxe edition (the most beautiful, much more than the crappy 3DO version ). I was more thinking about them.

I really hope that UAE will run on the GP2X but as you know its a very complex machine and I doubt to see something running full speed with sound. Watching Arte on GP2X... my dream ! :D

Well dont know what to do then :)
I would pay for an upgraded port of another world and probably the other games as well. However, I would want quite a noticable upgrade or else I might as well play it on my gp32 (which has a fully-free version available by authors consent!).

Fact: I own a PSP, DS and a GP2X.
I'd prefer a boxed game myself; something about paying for a download doesnt sit well with me ... too many ways to mess up something and again, if I happen to lose the game to an SD crash, I'm screwed.

no your not, you log back into the site and re-download the game. simple.
Actually, in many cases, you are ;) I purchased the gp32 game Mill and it was accidentally erased off my computer when my dad reformatted the harddrive. Then my SMC was corrupted and I lost the file completely. I had paid about $15 for it. I tried to re-download but joygp was in terrible state and even when it was running well it had a limited time in which you could download the game again (about 2 weeks I think).

I would much prefer to buy a game boxed, but if a good & reliable online service shows up, I may purchase the games from that.

Fact: The psp has one game over 9 on IGN's ratings
Fact: The DS has 8

Fact: IGN likes the PSP better
thats not the point. You just said the ds has better graphics than the psp. That just isn't true. No one said anything about gameplay quality or the 'better' system. Just correcting what you said ;)

anyway, I would pay like 30 US dollars boxed no doubt. I just hope the games are decent *hopes*
He didn't say that, but I'll pretend he did because he's still a moron.

Honestly, I'll pay 20-30 (USD) for a download game - if it's a current title, on another platform, I'm prepared to pay a little more...

I voted the middle option (20GBP/30GBP) Simply because I know that if it's a high quality game that's newer - that's how much I'd pay for any other system.

And I'd prefer to have a download system + (for an extra $$) they send you a boxed copy :D

Hey people,

i am actually considering into porting our games (smartphones) for the GP2X into commercials terms. Do you think it worth it ?

Take a look here : www.magic-productions.fr

Its port of great amiga games.

I love Amiga games.

A remake of Fire 'n Ice would be nice... I hear it's a very good platformer.

(The Amiga-one with Cool Coyote & Cubs)

And Walker...

I wonder how good controllers does a basic phone have for something like Walker?

Your an idiot. I said it had better quality games than the PSP. That implies gameplay not graphics.

Heh, it depends on who you're talking to.
Well, we can assume he wasn't talking to EA ;)

It depends on the goodness of the games for me, and if there was a way to recover games to a new console if yours broke, say a phone call or something, or some code.
Will there be a main site for the games? If so, a way could be set up so you could change the game encryption to different consoles, but only once every three weeks, or something like that?

I'll be writing the online side of things, so it will be very simple and very easy to use. It will be locked to a system, but you will be able (on request) to reregister it if you need to.

Obviously the boxed games will be locked to the card, little easier there.

Maybe, for downloadable games, you should be able to download them twice or three times, though legally only one copy could be on a system at any one time.

Dunno, just an idea, and I usually have *terrible* ideas ;)

And I'm unsure as to how GamePark implements DRM, is it locked-to-SD or locked-to-system? And if it's locked-to-system, is it done by S/N? If so, craig could (possibly) get GPH to send out a unit with the same S/N as the one you may have broken/lost/bricked.

I voted for the 9.99 price point without really thinking about it. GP2x is a VERY powerful system, but we really don't have a good sense of its power, since it's being used mainly to emulate, interpret 10+ year old games.

I'm not usually a graphics whore, but a fun game that can be used as a proper tech demo or benchmark for comparing us to other systems would actually be worth quite a lot to me. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $50usd. It would really have to be a download, since I would rather not carry multiple cards around with me.

Now that I've thought about it, I'm open to buying just about anything decent for this system that shows it off. I really don't think I'd pay for an emulator, interpreter or 'classic'-recompiled though. Still a fancy commercial game would keep this system from feeling quite as dead. (in the way that almost all of its games have already been written and played out long before it was launched)

I'm partial to futuristic racers, 4x strategy games, and turn-based RPGs--not that anybody's looking for that kind of feedback yet.

So each of your friends will have to wait 3 weeks each then for their copy :p

Really the whole locking to one unit thing is bad. With that you have to depend on another person or company to be in business etc to make the decision that you can use your game on another unit or not. Say for instance you have a bunch of games you really like and decide 5 years from now you are going to play it. You get all dewey eyed and nostalgic remembering the good ole days and can't wait to get started. Well your GP2X is busted, no problem they are floating around on ebay pretty cheap right? Wrong because the games that you PAID for won't work on that or any other unit. So you figure you will have to ask Big Brother's permission to use your game, but wait, the one that you got the games from aren't in that business anymore. Now what? You are fucked that is what. No thanks. I just hope everything will be available on cards too.

My other idea was that the game would have timed DRM. After a year or so from purchase you could log on to the site that you got the game type in your serial etc and get an unlocked version. By then the hype for the game would be down and wouldn't be selling that great anyway as it is old.

i would pay a good 25 quid for a good game, but only boxed. a download is worth nothing, i paid for a couple downloadable gp32 games, and when the unit packed up i just got some cracked versions anyway,

it would of been quicker from the users point of view to get the cracked ones in the first place, or the games be non-encrypted, but saying that, stuff spreads quick online, so it's swings and rounderbouts.

It all depends on the quality of the game.
And I would never pay for a downloaded game, only because I like to have games I buy in a box with instructions etc:D

stop talking about getting cracked games, when you start with that shit, dont complain when there are no commercial games for the gp2x
