Color Me Impressed

Actually, RMS is not a lawyer - he has a degree in physics, and never pursued a legal career as far as I can tell. Stallman is a political activist, though, whereas Torvalds does not care as much about political issues, which led to friction between the two of them on the subject of the importance of free software. In any event, they have both written a lot of software.

Also, I think Torvalds had some quite reasonable criticisms both of GNOME and KDE 4. I use KDE 3.5 myself, avoiding the issue. :p
And Torvalds did not name the OS after himself, someone else named it Linux. His original name was "freax."
His criticisms were indeed reasonable, but his approach was not. Which is again, my original point. You're right, he didn't name it that, but he got criticized himself for the name nonetheless. It's not like he said "No, no, no, we can't name it that." More like "No, no... well okay."

Thats a nice point, but I doubt ha actually had any input on what it is currently called. People just started calling it Linux (the Linus Unix) and no one is going to change what it is called now. I say that only because I would seem even more dickish to practically order people what to call the OS.

LOL, Stallman is definitely not a lawyer, that's the harshest trolling I've seen in a while. He coded emacs and gcc and many of the shell tools back in the 80's and was at the MIT AI labs back in the day. He's political and thank goodness he is, we wouldn't have much of this internet-ish stuff without him and the GPL. Now Torvalds is just a twat, he coded a kernel (small part of a OS) and took all the glory. I mean, what's a single coder worth anyway...

It possibly was, but Torvalds has said himself that he's a jerk and he doesn't know why everyone thinks he's a nice guy. (Just realized that I've been adding an extra "i" to Torvalds. Bad habit of mine.)

As this little marvel has moved closer and closer to a finished state, my excitement has mounted to such a level that I find myself cursing my employer's web filter as it keeps me from reading these forums all day long.
This is the link (or similar to it) I use to get around the Internet filters at my workplace (means you view the forums in text only mode):
CODE

Worth a try.

I appreciate that. I may give that a shot. Unfortunately, "uncatagorized" sites get blocked as well, so lots of sites that aren't (or shouldn't be) a problem get blocked too. I work for a very small credit union, and our IT guy is two offices down from mine. No reason to piss him off, ya know?

I'm probably going to build a cantenna to pick up some of the free wifi in my work area once I get my Pandora.

Way I see it, if the IT dept don't lock it down then it's fair game, IT guy can always block it later on. If the mytoday link doesn't work, I imagine you will have access to Google. Sign up to Google Reader and get the updates from the unofficial blog, better than nothing.

If you do, let us know how that turns out, sounds like a cool project.

You have NO idea how conservative the management is. I enjoy just being employed in this economy, so I'm not going to give anyone any reason to change that. Any and all attempts to subvert their web filter would be seen as a "security breach" and that's not something I want to deal with.

Your choice of course. If you want to be even more cautious, try this link:

It gives you a Google search for these forums (looking for the term 'Pandora', and taking away the term 'Viewing Profile') from the last 24 hours. Far from perfect, but least it gives you a small glimpse of what is being discussed. If a company fired someone for making a Google search without at least giving them a warning, well let's just say that such a company would learn quickly about what an unfair dismissal lawsuit is. ;) P.S. If anyone wants to know how I got the last 24 hours part of the search, see here:
