Clear Case

I agree, but that is money I think would be better spent on producing units in black, paying off debts, and much later going into upgrades like the CPU board and pink cases. ;) I would really like a good red, but that is a big chunk of change going toward something that can be changed later or custom printed.

If we do get a purple I hope it is either very dark or bright, but a little on the blue side (no pastels for me). Or maybe translucent. There are many colors I would pick before purple, but if it was the right purple I will be all over it. Red just seems "right" for the Pyra to me.

I was about to hit like after the first paragraph. How are you supposed to know it is an emergency if you can't look at the message?

So tell me, and be honest. How many ultra-urgent emergency messages you've received so far in your life? If it's really emergency like your house on fire people nearby and authorities will actually try to voice call you, Not sending you messages on Facebook or WhatsApp. Duh?

I never said I used electronic devices during any of the things I replied that would be done with a bunch of people in the dark other than to quickly check my phone or when at home. You might want to pay more attention. I don't care what anyone does as long as they stay away from me.

You should read the whole context of the thread and forum kid, specially on why I brought that up. You replied with the context of using the electronic device inside too.

I don't go to clubs anymore, and have always felt they were stupid. The few times I did go to them it was at the request of others, and it was to watch out for them. I am not particularly interested in women in clubs (other than those that have me watching their backs). I also don't care what others think is cool or appealing to others. If they would let me in with more then I would probably bring more. If I had my way I would drive everyone off so that I could leave sooner, as clubs are one of the places I least want to be. The kind of clubs that would have music and stuff I enjoy would probably be the perfect place for a Pyra...or old tech, sometimes being used and not just worn (but even the music usually played on those nights or at those clubs is not really to my taste). I guess I am just an idiot, huh?

You're the one who brought up about clubs. So I give you some simple tips on it : there's simply no sense in bringing in these kind of device inside. There's no sense bringing these kind of devices to cinemas and concerts too. You don't enjoy the clubs and cinemas because you're not actually at least try to enjoy it. Because you're too busy with these devices that are actually irrelevant to whatever you're trying to do there in the first place, why those places actually exist and why people go there for.

And I never said you're an idiot. But hey you got your rights to feel whatever you want lol.

Common sense is what tells us the world is flat. ;)

Son, short history lesson : that's religion, not common sense. People back then follows religion and the holy book without any question. I wouldn't call that "common sense" that would be "blind faith".

Some people with real common sense started to figure out that the world is round religion tried to shut them up. Look it up.

Your rights? What about theirs? If there is no talking then why are you lecturing these people? What makes you more important than another paying customer? Nothing. Not only are you bothering the person with the device, you are bothering everyone else by telling them they are doing something you dislike, and are clearly violating the same posted rules you claim to be enforcing (and it isn't your place to enforce anything anyway). If you don't like something go complain to the people that run the place, otherwise leave everyone else alone and shut up. You bother me in public I will ask you ONCE to leave me alone. This is a general thing, not limited to any specific location.

The sign that's forbid to NOT using the device is displayed before the show. Unless you're blind you wont miss it. And who said it's limited to talking on cellphones? At least here, it's said "No Handphones during the show". Not "No talking on cellphones during the show". Like I said I don't know about your country.

Too bad the cinemas here are not as strict as grench's and the staffs are not that firm. And "scold" doesn't always mean rushing to them or yell at them, you know. If they obliged, we both can enjoy the movie. If he's not, well I'll report to the staffs. If that's not working and the culprit is still doing it continuously, well I'm always ready to escalate and taking it outside. But most of the time people know when they do something that they shouldn't do. They're just being inconsiderate. So I remind them. As simple as that.

Nevertheless I've done my part to enjoy the movie at its fullest, by taking the latest night available, so that there're less people around.

But even so, I seen people bringing out their kids to latest night of the Deadpool movie. The kids are kicking the chair, screaming around. Then they went rage about it saying it's not suitable for children. It doesn't said they're not allowed to bring kids to the cinemas, but really?

Then we also have this guy who want to bring his palm sized Linux PC and actually play with it inside the cinema. Probably watching a movie on it or do some programming stuffs or play tetris on it while the show is going just because Woz did it. Hey it's not a cellphone if you opted for the wifi only. So it should be fine, right? Please use your... uhm... common sense before you reply. Cinemas are the place where people want to watch movies. Not watching other's notification on their device's screen. Concerts are the place where people want to watch the concert. Clubs are where people go to have drinks and socialize. Not playing tetris, not for gaming, or getting distracted by your device. Is that so hard to understand?

Let me guess, you will go to the McDonalds to see the new iPhone 7 launch?

I don't go to the movies much anymore because I don't feel like dealing with idiots, and I would rather buy a copy than spend about the same on tickets.

So now you think people who go to the movies are idiots?

Thank you for the permission. I was worried you might come to my house and chastise me. No problem, I have no neighbors close enough to hear anything even if I put some amps outside, turn them up to 11, and make noise at them, and if I did it would still be less disturbing than all the other stuff that happens around here (mostly older people, a few families, and 2 apartment buildings on this street, with those that reside in the apartments often harassing the older residents and vandalizing their property). Also, it turns out that the restrictions on sound here are very forgiving, which I found out last week when calling the police station what the earliest I could mow my lawn was, as I wanted to do it before a storm came in.

Did you even know the term "norms"? But like you said, what rights do I have to scold you anyway. Go on push it further. I've said it before, I don't know how much the limit is, let alone in your country.

Aw, do you feel big and strong now? That is so cute!

For sure. How about you? Can't wait to grow up huh? Don't worry kid, puberty don't last that long. Try better arguments on the next one.

Oh BTW the red case is awesome. Much better than the silver Pandora. And Black is too common for me. But ED said the cheaper red isn't so good. Hence why I wanted the clear case.

Cheers.

An emergency would be the babysitter had a problem, and a person should certainly be allowed to check a text while at a movie. It could be something important that they need to attend to right away.

Also, there are jobs where you are on call 24/7, are those people not allowed to see movies at all?

I want the blue case from the official pictures.
[doublepost=1468385143,1468385107][/doublepost]Or the purple or red one.

If I understood what he's saying here correctly, then depending on the colour there is no cost savings: there are some colours (including black and transparent) that he can get in whatever quantity he wants for the same price. So with 1000 shells he could make 500 black, 200 clear, and then 100 each of three other "vibrant" colours and it'd cost the same as 1000 black.

I understood more colors leads to greater delays and ... wastes. But I think the multi colors cases made while changing color for the molds could be kept (didn't some already expressed this idea ?).

Not only this would be environment friendly but it also could be of use.
  • The nicest unique color cases could be sold in 'special editions' auctions to maximize profit. Damn, I can think like a true capitalist, but if it can help funding.
  • The not-so-nice-looking ones / the ones with no bid could be used for possible cheaper models mentioned a while ago.
  • Both categories could be given randomly as a kind of reward for long supporting first batchers. One day, in Teletubby land ...
All this depending on how colors blend && how doable it is for the Greek company (they might think we are crazy). Could they provide pictures of blended colors parts if they have kept some, even from other parts/customers ? We could troll^H^H^H^H^Hdiscuss if it is worth or not.

Unless he decides to go with a "real" colour (whatever that means) then he needs (I think it was calculated to about) 6000, and that has nothing to do with cost savings, that's simply the minimum amount, period.

1 ton MOQ for a custom color, almost 8000 cases for what I remember reading. Doesn't seem reasonable right now, very tempting though, later I hope ...

I just think Clear should be a limited colour OPTION for those of us who really want it, maybe even just for the pre-order folks if its a hassle to obtain a large volume. The clear Pyra prototype captured my heart and that's what I want. Not a red one, not a black one, not a metallic swirl or translucent purple one. Clear. Simple. Unpretentious and unrefined. I realize the functional drawbacks, or the implied "toy" status this case will evoke.

I'm not saying those who quiver in fear and the concept of light bleed or hate it should get one. I'm just saying it should be an option from day one for those who want one. I don't want to buy a secondary case and install it myself (but I will if that's what it takes I suppose).

Ideally I want my clear Pyra, from the Dragonbox, right out of the box. From what ED has said that doesn't seem unreasonable or unrealistic. So naturally I'm pretty excited about it. I cannot wait to get my hands on one.

Now if it turns out thats not going to happen I'll take what I can get. But I'm going to be as vocal as I can (without derailing threads) to keep that idea in the dialogue.

@WizardStan & @kabaiakh
Don't forget, though, that even if the standard colors have no MOQ required to purchase the plastics, there is still a switch over labor cost. Those molds and equipment have to be cooled, cleaned, re-heated and re-started to switch colors. My understanding is this is 2-3 people's labor for about a full day. Billed out and through, these set up costs could be in the thousands. The set up costs to run a batch of 100 to 200 cases could very well be more than the costs of the cases themselves. The set up costs average out over 1000s of cases, but could make those tiny volumes difficult to justify.

Grench, that is possibly true, however at least a handful of people have expressed interest in mixed colors. I know this is probably an oversimplification, but instead of cleaning everything they can toss the new color in at the end of the old color and those that want the mixed color can get the first however many come out mixed, and eventually when/if they get the solid clear ones those can be used for those interested in plain clear. It is that "if" that causes problems and could make the entire run of "clear" cases mixed, thus not appealing to those that want clear.

Another option is to plan for a small run of clear to "test" the final molds, then move on to the main color. That should result in pure clear cases, some of the mixed ones, and eventually the leftover clear shouldn't degrade the look of the solid black/grey. Again we have "shoulds" and an "eventually", but I suspect the risks will be lower. I have a feeling that it may not be as simple as just throwing the new color into a vat, though.

As for clear being a limited color, I think that is acceptable, especially for preorders, with those that ordered first getting priority choice for a particular color (clear, and mixed if it is possible). They could be pseudoprototype cases for first batch buyers.

As several of us have said, regardless of what color(s) ED picks I am in. If it helps others get what they want I will commit to a mixed color case now, or whatever the secondary choice is (including that purple he showed us). I will even take the ugliest one if they are mixed.

You read my mind. There're no devices that do this.

This could make Pyra stand out and be the signature of this device.

Maybe PocketCHIP? I've looked into this one too, but seems that it's unbearably sloooooowwwwww.

pcoverview-625x352.jpg

Nevertheless I like the design of the naked keyboard on it too, without the silicone keypad, and also the naked pins on top of it. See the back? Clear plastic. Damn... that's sexy as hell. Nergasm. Oh yeah.

I don't think PocketChip can even run SNES on it. Seen youtubes on it, even browsing the net on this is hell. Let alone the keyboard/dpad on it wouldn't be so comfortable for playing quick, reflect based action games, let alone fighting games.

But it's $50, I might get one anyway in the near future. It's just that I haven't got any idea what I'm gonna use it for.

I'm not saying those who quiver in fear and the concept of light bleed or hate it should get one. I'm just saying it should be an option from day one for those who want one. I don't want to buy a secondary case and install it myself (but I will if that's what it takes I suppose).

Light bleeds won't be a problem. It would only bother people in dark places.

But like I said, who would've use this device in a dark public places like movies and clubs? *ehm*

Lots of people, in my experience. ;)

For a kid in his puberty who said clubs are stupid and moviegoers are idiots, yeah I'm sure you had tons of experiences with those kind of places:oops:

Anyway I took the plunge on PocketCHIP. I've tried a friends' Pi, it's not for me. PocketCHIP seems to be much user friendlier than Pi AND it's portable.

Pi need to be treated like a desktop. I can get attachment for it like PiTop, but for $300, I'd better buy full blown Intel/Windows laptops instead, let alone PiTop is 14 inch.

On PocketCHIP they got this discount $60 ($49 plus shipping to my country) compared to $700 Pyra preorder, so guess it's the best time to see whether these devices are intended for me or not. If it ended up collecting dust in my drawer, well it's $60.

It's still money but it's not $700. From what I read it's far weaker than Pyra, and the SNES support are simply awful. Nevermind running N64 and PS1 games on this. Nothing that CHIP do Pyra can't do better I suppose.

Pico seems interesting though, I ended up buying Voxatron license too for Windows desktop.

Oh yeah on topic, I just realized I never scroll down at the frontpage :

I'm still on the edge on Pyra and most likely opted for GPD Win instead... but will you loooook at that baby.

That's the PERFECT color for Pyra. Come on. Looks cheap? I don't think so.

Opt for the phone, and I bet even iPhone users will get jealous with that ;)

I'll wait for my PocketCHIP arrive and I do hope I do use it a lot. I wanted the PyraPhone so much.

Cheers.

Oh, you showed me. I want to be as cool as you when I grow up.

I just wanted to add that I am totally in support of a Clear case for the Pyra. I'm waaay up the pre-order list though(Just put mine in last friday). So, while I get that letting people who pre-ordered first, have the first pick is only fair, and I get that making a limited run of a color like that is the smart thing to do from a business standpoint, I really do hope that I can still somehow get one. Maybe I'll get lucky and they won't be as popular as they seem to be on the forums?

For me, a big appeal of a clear case is the potential to put temporary colored inserts in. I think the effect will be snazzy, and I like the idea of being able to change the color whenever I want. If the inserts eventually became official merch, so much the better.

Just thought, I wonder what the thermal and RF implications of foil tape on the inside would be? Am I right in thinking the antennas are on the mainboard? Probably a no-go.
