Best Acorn BBC MICRO games

I am enjoying this.  This definitely has the feel of something like Atari 2600 - where you really had to use your imagination and stuff...the really old old old type stuff.

I'm very happy to hear that - now BeebEm have TWO players!  (other than me)  woo woo :)

OK, admittedly, some of them are not so good...

Sure, but that's down to Sturgeon's Law!

Critics: "Ninety percent of Science Fiction is crap!"

Sturgeon: "NOES!!!  SCIENCE FICTION IS DOPE, MAN!!1"

[repeat ad nauseum ... 20 years passes... Sturgeon has revelation!]

Sturgeon: "I get it now!  Ninety percent of EVERYTHING is crap!"

I reckon Sturgeon's Law applies even personally, 90% of what I do is crap... and that's a generous underestimate!

Anyway, I reckon you'll find that a good 10% or more of the Beeb games are great - there's maybe 100 great games there.  I listed some of the best ones above - thanks to a thread on the GP2X forum.  I think http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfwqXga1ul4...?  There were other similar games.

One of my very favourites is XOR, it's a puzzle game like Boulderdash or Repton, but extra puzzling!  I don't know a better puzzle game.  Simon Tatham made a similar game called Enigma, for curses / terminal, but Enigma is really hard, I couldn't finish it yet.  Maybe if it had pretty graphics like XOR I would persist...  Haven't tried XOR on Pandora yet, hopefully it works okay.  I'll have to fix up the BeebEm sound soon.

I'm excited about using the save states in beebem, might actually be able to finish some of the "3 lives, start again" games now!

Are you familiar with Judge Dredd?

Did you see my avatar over there on the left?

Looks like you got some good games there.

That was why I asked.  the avatar looked like Judge Dredd.
Indeed, the likeness is uncanny.

FWIW, Very good work on the emulator. The controls and interface are very intuitive and work first time. I've not really played BBC games for over 20 years and this evening I've been hammering them. Well done.

D.

Looks like ya got another Beebem player, Dredd!

I got even more games on the system now.  I'm still sorting thru a load I acquired, and am deciding which ones I actually want.

Well, I never actually saw the movie.  As I understand it was more a British thing, anyway.  But I heard about it even on this side of the pond.  Like I said, it was a little something that just stuck in my head...which is why it took me a while to put my finger on it.

Off-topic...Stallone is a huge prick.  I've met him.

Now, on the other hand...Schwarzenegger, whom I've also met....is an awesome, down-to-earth sorta guy, I liked him.

I've heard from a friend of my family's who works in acting all actors and actresses portrayed as jerks in the media are actually nice and vice versa . Surprised a bit though about Schwarzenegger being the nice one , as I recently read a ( slightly ) politics focused interview with him . The way he answered just struck me as the stereotypical football ( American ) coach . Not mean , but ... Cocky . Or confident to the point of even this idiot typing noticing .

Well, I can tell you that at a convention for the movie industry, I was the guest of a manager of aq video-rental store. Schwarzenegger was very cordial and nice, Stallone was like he couldn't be bothered.

Sandra Bullock is cool, though. I met her when I was living in Austin, Texas...and so was she. I think she still does live there.

Personally I'm not the type to freak out over stars ( unless they want to GIVE ME some of their millions :p ) . Oh ... I think I might be dragging this topic off topic .
