Here's a new theme I'm working on :)

Could you PM your config file? You seem to have solved some of the problems I've listed above.

Done, though I had to fiddle with the x and y values until I got what I wanted. It's strange how it works for the list.

Oh and cpasjuste, I know whats up with the text margin issue in the prompt box, it seems to change depending on the size of the name of the application/game you're trying to add/remove to favourites, though I think you figured that out. ;)

One problem I'm having is in the settings menu, the list of settings seem to be hardcoded on the left side of the menu, when ideally it should use the same x y values as the application list, or even it's own values so we can center them.

Also, why is the app list y coordinate given in application entry heights? Could it be changed to a simple y coordinate like the others?

Here's one for the Steampunk fans
Huzzah! love steampunk.
Off to try it out, let you know if I come across any problems thanks :)

EDIT: The only gripes I have are all to do with getting the aligning right so you probably know about them anyway..

  • Pandora icon at the bottom right could do with being moved over to the left a touch more just to get it away from the corner detail a little.
  • Writing and icons at the bottom need re-aligning.
  • The scroll paper could be stretch out a little more to the left side to give it the same spacing from the edge of the screen as the box on the right.

Outstanding work Mindlord :D

Mindlord! Nice!

Not sure if it's been pointed out (this is @ Cpasjuste / everyone) but don't forget to remove the superfluous "s" from "favorites applications" in the dialogue box. It should read "favorite applications" (or for traditional English accuracy, "favourite applications").

I've finished mine: http://monkeyo.sc12.co.uk/Monkeyo2.zip

I've made new icons for everything now; I would have like to have done something different from a gamepad and joystick for the emulators and games icons, but I really couldn't think of anything better. Now I see the screenshots uploaded, I might go back and have a look at the media icon (did that one first), and I also notice GIMP in Ubuntu did a shit job of resizing the preview image, I'll redo that in Photoshop!

I got FreeSans to work (don't know what I did wrong before), but the kerning looks a little strange on the big font. It would be nice to be able to adjust the character spacing, but I don't know if that would be possible.

In my original mock-up, I had lines between the unselected games, but if I had built that into the background image, there would have been lines through the text on the setting screen.

There were a few file (highlight_fav.bmp, no_icon.bmp and no_preview.bmp) which I couldn't see in use, so I left them alone. I also wasn't sure if there was a way of changing the skin folder names, so I left it as NewSkin in the ZIP file.

Edit: Oh yeah, I did a mock-up I forgot to post:

Of course comments and criticisms are both welcome, and expected.
This is my kind of "skin". :) (This an Diesel-Punk, known from Bioshock)
Looks very nice. Of course it needs a matching font, with a matching font-colour. The Top Menu Icons could need a Describing-Text, at least the selected one (Text pops up, for example "GAMES" - I don't know if the "engine" can do this)
The Values at the bottom line (MHZ, SD etc...) shouldn't be Text, it should be more a image based picture like an old analog "wheel with numbers" (how is the english word for this?) imagine an old Slot-Machine. ;) I hope, PMenu is able to do this little Gadget. Maybe not animated but it would be helpful to have picture based Numbers. OR you draw an Background that looks like these Wheels and simply put the font ontop of it.

I watch digital broadcast tv, dvd's and video files with mplayer all the time, think i have smplayer and a couple other gui's for it but never use them, waste of screen, it's a terrific player.

ed;
Really terrific skin work guys, really.

I'll make the necessary adjustments.

I wish I had access to better free fonts. I don't know any good sources for "royalty safe" ones that I could use on an official skin, so I just stuck with what I was given by cpajuste. I chose black and white font color for maximum readability. They are easily changed though. I'll tinker with the colors a bit and see if I can't come up with something nice.

Unfortunately the engine doesn't support popping up the text, though it would be a nice option. I decided to go no text simply for cleanliness. Space is a bit tight with all the glitter. I agree it would be nice to use SVG for the Information icons. We could fudge an ammeter for CPU speed, odometers for disk space, and a "analog" clock would be divine on this skin. Or, less ideally, we could just have multiple PNGs that approximate these things.
