Anticipate The New Video Here

Thanks for both videos, ED - I really enjoyed watching them. Now I can't wait to fire up Sleepwalker and such, for the Amiga. :D

I have a question, if I may. Will it be possible to remap the controls for stuff like the Amiga and ST to our liking? I say this because, even from when I was a kid, I really hated having to push up in order to jump in platform games on the various home computers of the time.

Last of all, regarding the "GUI" discussion: I had no idea until now that anybody pronounces it as a word. I've always said "G.U.I.", myself. I learn something new every day. :)

I've found myself pronouncing more and more acronyms as actual words. No matter how hard I try, sometimes l33t-speak crawls into my actual speech (lol and rofl >.<). I do think people who say the l33t-speak letters out loud sound retarded, though.

A lot of times it's easier to say acronyms as words though. Like laser, sonar, radar, NATO, NAFTA, JPEG, DOS, etc.

it's G.U.I. for me too, but I do pronounce D.U.I as Dooey so I could see the gooey slang thing catching on in the right circles.

I'm all for abbreviations when they actually make the word or phrase smaller (less syllables). I can't stand when people abbreviate to something that technically takes longer to say.

So yea, pronouncing acronyms passes my logic rule of abbreviations.

Yeah, I agree - that's the funny thing. I just never realised that folks did this with "GUI".

Hehe, like Earthworm Jim to "EWJ"? :D

Wow Amiga actually looks cool (never played one... too young)
What was the game with a frog? I loved it when it played the sound effect duh-du-duh
Bring's something like "Su-per-man" to my mind

In all seriousness I could watch a video like that for an hour...

Thanks for the videos ED, I really like your videos.

I notice that the ST emu's sound is out of sync on Stunt Car Racer. Is this due to YouTube or the emu?

Great work with the .PND files guys, it appears to work brilliantly.

@HackModford - The game with a frog was, well, Superfrog. It's legally freely available from Back to the Roots now, too (the site seems to be down at the moment, though).

Things like EWJ is for typing purposes. That's one that most people wouldn't be saying out loud (or at least shouldn't).

Just thought of a fun acronym said as a word: THAC0. Thack-oh.

Great videos. I have a couple of questions if you have time.

1 - In the first video you show the desktop/menu locations on the SD card. How does PMenu differentiate between PNDs in the different folders? Or does it treat them indetically?

2 - More importantly, when playing Turrican II you make your little man turn into a ball and spin across the ground. I always loved playing Turrican II and never knew about that move... how did you do it?!!

thanks!

Thanks for the great videos, ED.

Yeah, that's probably due to overscan:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overscan

This area of the screen was cut off on most cathode ray tubes. NES has very similar artifacts when scrolling that are visible on any NES emulator but were invisible on TVs back then.

I'm not completely sure whether Amigas usually came with a specific monitor. I know I used a common TV for mine.
Well, my amiga 500+ came with a CRT monitor with RGB and s-video connections.
The quality of the image was a bit better than on a TV, but the soldering of the monitor's connectors where really poorly made.
I had to "play" a little bit with the cable to get the right colors.

Oh my, am I glad to have ordered and paid. Otherwise I would ponder about spending money for this each time you guys release these awesome videos. Thanks!

It's always been "Gooey" to me, never imagined pronouncing it any other way, I've had numerous nerds, tech-heads, and other more tecnically inclined types say it that way. In terms of abbreviation, despite having more syllables the main thing is that it just become easier to say (roll of the tongue easier) depending on your dialect it could be different for different people.

Great videos, glad to see the GUI (how ever you choose to pronounce it) is moving a long quickly. the more issues get checked off the list of things to fix in the next 2 weeks the better!

Thanks Ed!!! My main reason on getting a pandora is to have a decent portable amiga emulator. (psp, zodiac, wm, and android do not cut it)

Since 1985, I always pronouced GUI as gooey.

Might've been my fault - I realized I moved the audio accidentally and made it out of sync for Speedball. Fixed that before exporting the video, though.
Might've happened with Stunt Car Racer, too.

pmenu doesn't differenciate. It has it's own favourite folder, but it shows all desktop and menu items.

Errmm... that's common for ALL Turricans :D Press down and Space ;)

Awesome. I thought it might work that way, would make sense.

Wow! Just gave it a quick spin and it's awesome! I don't think I have ever been so excited about discovering a new move in a game... and this is like 15 years on!

I never played any of the other Turricans as a nipper, although I recently discovered Mega Turrican - didn't realize you could do it on that either! Looks like I have got a lot more Turricaning to do over the next few weeks!

Hey EvilDragon, what happens if, instead of putting the actual PND file into the directory, you create a symlink? Could you put the PND into the menu folder, and then symlink it to the desktop folder so it appears in both? (assuming the card is formatted to something that supports links or junctions)
