It was an actual weapon ,  the "Apache knuckleduster".  

Made in 1875 in Belgium.  Made famous because they we used by a French gang called the Apaches from 1880-1900

Worth a decent amount of $$$

How was it used then?
 
I wondered that... Guess you didn't take a grip of it to then use all its "features".


Hold like normal gun with the duster palmed to shoot or stab... Then reverse when you want to bludgeon someone with the duster followed by a downward hammer fist impale with the dagger.


Pretty brutal
 
The trigger and "handle" fold in to make the brass knuckles so you can't accidentally shoot yourself in the face when you punch someone. Give it a flick, pull the trigger down, and you're set for some longer distance murder.
 
I got caught up in even more crushing crowds than usual during rush hour today thanks to that mess... Wasn't even on the vic line but the central got extra mobbed where people were advised to avoid that line altogether.

Didn't realise it was due to this though :)
