A Nice Thread All About The Psp

well not quite... we can still enjoy playing regular DS and PSP games in the meantime :)

yeah, the launch is in 10 days now! i have mine preordered for the 2nd shipment..man i feel stupid. i could've preordered way before i did.
and as far as games, i can't decide between mgacid, wipeout pure, or ridge racers..

did wipeout come out in Japan yet? Anyone played it? I'm hesitant to pick that up until I see a review since the last few Wipeout games, in my oppinion at least... weren't so good.

I have stopped buying import games after Rengoku and am just waiting now, for the US release. There are only a couple US games I've even interested in though (mind you, I already have the import version of most of the 'good' US launch games)... Tony Hawk and Spiderman, so far.

I preordered mine the day they started taking preorders... was calling every day like an obsessive... was no way I was gonna be left behind waiting for some second or third or fifth shipment... already got screwed that way with the PS2 launch and didn't get mine for six months!

Anyways, US launch is no good reason to celebrate for me :p :D now I won't be able to show off my japanese one anymore  :p

I'm suprised people want emulation so bad, after playing PSP games I can't ever see me going back to emulation, apart from maybe a few ps1 or n64 games. If you don't like the PSP games for some very very strange reason, than I don't recommend buying one ever. It may never get cracked to a usable state.

Anyway I've preorderd my PSP pack. Getting the value pack plus spiderman 2 movie plus wayne gretzky bundle. Also buying 3 games, MGA, Wipeout pure and Twisted metal. Ah yes best launch ever I think. If only i could afford more. Than I'd also add ape escape, Thug 2, spiderman 2 and lumines.......

kotd - you may be a fanboy :D :p but you're not much of a gamer in general :D

You own a GP32 don't you? Then you should understand why there are those of us who are very eager to see emulators on the PSP. I love the PSP as it is, and love the games for it, and greatly look forward to many games that have been announced, but I'm also very eager to see emulators and to a lesser extent, homebrew stuff on it as well. I would love to have Neo Geo, perfect SNES, and a more advanced MAME to play on the go... To be able to fit sooooooo many games on a 1GB stick would just be icing on the cake. There's also the fact that since these emu's wouldn't run off a disk, I have to imagine you'd be able to get a LOT more battery time than usual out of the PSP when running these kinds of things, or be able to greatly extend that last 10-20% of battery life. Not that I dont like my GP, but if they do fully crack the PSP, and all the emu's currently on the GP find their way onto the PSP (in even better form, presumably), that'd be one less handheld for me to carry around :)

New fangled 3d games are great, but I still and always will love the good old stuff, 8 bit and 16 bit games, arcade and Neo Geo games, and the prospect of having those on a handheld system... it would just be friggin sweet.

you said it!
the fun that classics bring will never die. or atleast i hope not, haha

well I've got my Pocket pc for perfect snes emulation and various others. Did own a GP32, untill I was bored of it. Once i delved into the past I saw how limited games were and my old fond memories of games have gone down the toilet.

I can't see me playing the emulators when I have new games.

I'm sorry if i'm not a "gamer" because I get bored of/and don't like playing old games over and over. Yay I bought this new awesome DVD player so I can watch silent black and white movies!!!!! I like to play new stuff not old stuff. If thats what you bought your PSP for than go ahead.

You said you didn't like being called a fanboy and now you spout it yourself. I don't see how me believing the PSP is a superior piece of hardware makes me a fanboy, if it does than so be it.

I thought battery life was not a problem? I guess you've changed your stance. Buy another battery or stick with something else.

whoa dude you need to calm down. Didn't you notice all the smilies I stuck into that sentence? I thought putting those there would let on that I was JUST KIDDING when I said that. I wouldn't be so hypocritical as that... I've made it pretty clear how much I hate to be labeled, so relax dude :) Guess all these peeps callin you fanboy and such must really have you on the defensive eh?

I wouldn't compare playing old games to watching black and white movies on DVD... that's very apples to oranges, but I will say that be it movies or games, there are a lot of great classics out there that will always be fun to play or entertaining to watch... hence why they get called classics... if they weren't good, then they'd just be called OLD. You mean to tell me you never go back and watch old movies (not necessarily black and whites) that you liked in the past? By your mentality, cable TV and every Blockbuster/Hollywood Video would surely go out of business :D

But to each their own... most of us here have and love our GP's because we still love to play these old games... Me, I was sticking my Xbox in a backpack and hauling that heavy hunk of plastic to work every night for quite a few months once I softmodded it, spending probably a good 6 hours a night going thru and playing many of the old games I loved when I was younger, and also trying many of the old games I had heard were good but never got a chance to try for myself. Once I got my GP, I was more than happy to lighten my load and take that instead. But I love new stuff too... I personally spend a small fortune every few years buying every new system that comes out so I don't miss any great new games, and then spend small fortunes buying every game that gets even a passable good rating from whatever website or magazine reviewer.

That's too bad that you feel that older games are 'limited' as you put it, many people would argue that there's a lot more to love about old games than anything that's come out recently, and that the 3d revolution has taken all the emphasis off fun gameplay and just put it on snazzy graphics. I wouldn't go so far as to say that myself, but I do know that 2d gaming has it's own charm and there were plenty of deep, fantastic older games that will always be a joy to play, and that in some ways newer games have lost some of that charm and magic. Not that I play many of the older ones 'over and over'... I mean I'm only going to beat Super Mario Bros 3 so many times... yeah I'm bored of it, but there are SO many games I never did get to play back then... i was only a kid I couldn't just go buying every game I wanted... and now thanks to emulators I have the chance to go back and play those and man there are some GREAT ones out there that I missed... I'm very glad I am getting the chance to play them now.

And anyways... when did I say battery life was a 'problem'? All I said was that I'm sure that running emus would consume way less battery life than running PSP games, and that that would be sweet. I'm getting average of 4 hours between charges which is fine for me and is more than I play my PSP in any one given day. I never 'changed my stance'... and what's this about telling me to buy a battery or stick with something else? Seriously dude you need to chill.

Soz dude, your right, kinda missed your joking smilies 33k modem here "feels like a total nob" . Although I meant that I bought the PSP to play the new games while I bought the GP32 to play retro. If the PSP was cracked but had shite normal games, I'd still sell it. Its not what I bought it for.

Sure a lot of 3D games are pretty dodgy gameplay, but there are just some stuff that sucked in 2D. Most sport games, driving etc. I'm a big fan of 2D its got nothing to do with that. I love my metal slug and 2D fighters/shooters, but no one has the balls to make them anymore. New 2D games would be great.....

Believe me with a PC, 2 controllers and TV out I've played almost all retro games out there. ;) I have very little time as we all do these days so I prefer playing whats current even if its worse than retro. I found it suprising that more people want retro and the retail games here......

well now TIME makes all the difference. My recent love and playing of all things retro and classic is 99% due to the fact that I'm a lucky bastard with a job where I do nothing for most of the night and can spend all of that free time playing video games. Before this when I actually worked at a video game store, the most I ever really played old stuff was when I'd play Pocket NES on my GBA on my lunch break. When something new/good comes out and I actually have the chance and $$$ to pick it up, I'll bring that to work instead... most recently I was bringing my PS2 to work to play Metal Gear Solid 3... but since I only have so much money I often run out of new stuff to play and then go back to my old stuff. With the PSP I bought a buttload of games initially and was playing the crap outta them but now I've worn them out and am holding off on buying new stuff til the US launch.

but yeah if I had a job where I actually had to work ;) I imagine I wouldn't be spending as much time playing old stuff and probably wouldn't prioritize it so much.

Cool sounds like you have a good life :D I'm so busy I play maybe 5 hours a week or less. unlike when I had my PSone, Saturn, N64 and Dreamcast and played a few hours daily, hence why I bought the PSP to let me play console games on those short moments when I have a break or whatever.

What Jap games did you buy? I only ended up getting 4 in total

Namco museum
Ridge Racers
NFSU Rivals
Minna no golf

Mine are all sold :p got bored of them. Sold my Jap PSP as well because it had 2 lit pixels and I wanted a US one incase they ever put region encoding on games and also so i can watch US movies :)

I'm still interested in games if you have anything to sell let me know.

Jap games I have:

Ridge Racers
Lumines
Golf
Vampire Chronicle
Metal Gear
Rengoku
Puzzle Bobble
Dynasty Warriors

Not that most PSP users on here would care about UMD movies (myself included), but I read about the JAP UMD movies being able to simply select English as an Audio language? Can anyone confirm? Cos if you do care about UMD movies it means it makes even more sense to import a Jap model if you live in the UK.
