Psx4gp2x Dynarec Status Update

I just tried FF8 as well. Using the same settings as before:
FMVs are about 6-7fps, but seems slightly better than 1/2 full speed.
Walking around says about 14-17fps, but feels more like a little less than 2/3 full speed.

Also, once you get to the main world map, you have to reset psx clock to >58% for it to continue to perform. With that in mind:
Walking around on world map: 12fps
Battles: 10fps avg, seems about 1/2 speed

I guess this game must be rough on the psx because on the world map and in battles, the higher the psx core is clocked, the better the performance, so at about 85%, the numbers above are just slightly better, but the feel is smoother.

Note, glitches on world map: either squall is invisible, or completely black (seems to vary inconsistently with psx core clock). In battles, no menus (but I am familiar enough with the game that I was still able to watch Quezacotl and Shiva do their stuff :) ).

Also, I'm pleased to announce that the Quistis video no longer crashes the emulator!!

I just tried the latest version 040407b with ff7... the intro movie playback varied between 1/2 and full speed the whole way through, but the music lags a long way behind, it hadn't even gotten to the 'fanfare' bit when the train reached the reactor. The event sounds all played at the right time though.

I was running 250MHz, 5-interlacing, PSX clock 50%

Thanks Zodttd :)
How faster will run Wipeout now? Going to test right now :)
Well :p
Wipeout problems are fixed.I get about 12 frames with no sound, interlaced 0.OC is about 275 and Ram tweaks ON.
If you put interlaced 1 and Progresive interlaced ON i get like 17 :) Very playable :) It is like when you overpass the 15 frames barrier the game is almost like the original.

-Tekken 3 now works again. It´s like 10 frames.Same settings of Wipeout.

-Castlevania SOTN is not working.

-Wipeout 3 SE is not working.(intro works)

-Winnig Eleven 2002 is working now again but you see like a mess of everything when you are in game.Imposible to play.

-Panzer Bandit (JP) is running very well :) It is over 20 when you are walking laone and around 15 when 3 enemies are in the screen.I recommend you all to test it.

-Batman Forever is working again and it is around 20 fps.Sometimes 25, another times 16.Very playable :)

This is quite an amazing second wind you are having zodttd. How close is psx4gp2x to emulating the full psx cpu so that the second core can be used?

Version 040407_B.

valkyrie profile goes from 15 fps to 23 fps @ 266 mhz psx clock:32%
it has some graphic glitches on video cut scenes.

Threads Of fate seems a few frames faster, looking more playable with each release.

Edit: *bleep*, FF7 is almost entirely playable now. The battles are still crappy, though (around 9 fps without sound), but outside of battle, again without sound, it seems to stay around the twenties and never drop below fifteen.

strikers 1945 II won`t work .. already tried that
freezes after the psikyo logo

lode runner starts but no image ..pressing/holding keys it shows the game screen for "a milisecond"

ok well i have only tested one game which is driver will test more when i find my psx games colection  well it is playable about 5 to 9 fps but there is lines going across which makes the writing hard to read plus the sound does not work other than that its great!

great work zod keep it up! :)

Did you disabled interlacing in the graphics menu?

Well I said I would test and here I am!
Resident evil Directors Cut

OC 266Mhz
PSX clock 40%
Ram tweaks on
Progressive interlace off
Sound off

Result
During video 5-9fps

during gameplay 9-22fps

22 fps was when there was just me. With 1 zombie it went down to around 17fps

With 3 characters on screen in a big room its around 13 fps

Honestly at 22fps its very playable, problem is it wont stay at that rate with many zombies on screen.
For the 'PSX on GP2X skeptics' I find it difficult to see how near fullspeed is unachievable, especially if we are able to make use of the second processor eventually.

PS with sound enabled it was like 10 women were being killed with a knife inside my 2X.

w000t great work! you did a really good job with the latest release :)

the intro movie of ff9 is working without any graphical glitches, runs faster and does not crash :)

<3 you

I am now using a global register to maintain coherency of a structure I use for register values within C functions. Since the dynarec uses this structure to sync with C functionality, this sped things up even with the lack of a register within C functions.

I am expanding the number of registers able to be used by the dynarec. Both these additions added more FPS to games.

I did notice our assembly was a bit "underperforming" to say the least, in one spot. I will fix this and it should speed things up more considerably. Also while im in the process of fixing the Oddworld bug, I noticed I'm not using Unai's GPU assembly which can help things considerably.

So a good release to come!

EDIT: I tracked down the Oddworld bug to Unai's sign expansion code. If youre reading this Unai, please look into the GPU_EXPANDSIGN[...] macros.

EDIT2: Found the Oddworld bug. Fixing.

Reply: I have Strikers 1945 II and it runs REALLY. It's a Japanese version.

The game "Battle Hunter" is about 80 megs in size and is running pretty much full speed. This includes sound. I have it overclocked to 266, but it would probably run the same even lower.

Is there something wrong with my GP2X? I clock it at 240mhz with sound off, scanline 0 or 1 and all I get is the same 5-7FPS in Ridge Racer or 9-10 FPS in PSX Picks volume 1 demo disk with Wipeout playable demo. Ranging the PSX underclock from 14% to 80% + has almost no effect on the frametimes, just the sync rate.

Is there just something about 3D that is too slow? Can anyone recommend a proper 2D game to check?

I have all my USB options turned on for USB host, does that make a difference? I use Gmenu2X, does that make a difference either?

I use a 2GB 140x or more card, so I don't think that is the problem.

Edit: I forgot to add, this is with all versions on spookysoftsite, not a real difference in any of them, marginally faster on some <1fps, slower on others <1fps

hmmm.... i would really like to test this but somehow it doesn't work for me... it just says load succes and then there's a black screen.

weird.
i use winiso for ripping, any recommendations as an alternative?
