Perspectives kinda weird, and whats that weird squiggly line?
It's orthogonal (all equal lengths are equal in the picture), and what line?

Sorry for this dumb question, but are these painted on?
If it is, what is to prevent someone in the later batches to put the "First Batch" on their's?

If they were molded into the plastic then what's to prevent someone from molding it into theirs?
- if anyone really cares it could be verified by your approved order number that you had a first batch system (collectors / etc.)
- it's unlikely there will be zero changes between batches, and any change, no matter how minor, will let you tell them apart (eg. if the LCD manufacturer switched to a different touchscreen brand). This is similar to being able to tell xbox 360 batches apart based on the connectors of their power cables, and the shape of the tray in the DVD drive, among other things.
- if they just included a "first batch" certificate, what's to keep people from photocopying it?

This is an open-source console, don't think so hard about how to DRM and protect everything. We just assume people will be fair and behave correctly.
Also, yes, silk-screen means painted.

He was referring to the keyboard viewed from the side, it looks like a weird squiggly line. I thought this as well and it took me a minute to realize it was the keyboard.

The Open Pandora Manufacturing Batch-Level Security Team will quietly surveil the owners of subsequent batches and prevent any wrongdoing.

How about just the number "1" instead of "First Batch"? Then increment the number each production run? :) Would also seem more universal then to have english text written on it.
Good point about the English stuff. Perhaps it would be better to be more universal.

What do you think of this? http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa99/MWeston_2007/SilkFront_universal.png

I just hacked ED's drawing up with MS Paint so it's not ready for prime time, but this is the idea. The mold company has the first drawings to maybe put on the sample cases but I don't know if they will be putting them on early samples or not. I asked but I get no reply. Shipping is also 'this week' and that's all I got so far.

At any rate, we could still make the change for the 10,000 cases (not sure if they will do 4k with first batch marking and 6k without but I will ask).

Yeah that looks good :) It helps keep the labels consistent with them being icons, since text can clutter up the design and feel of the device. Imagine if everything was in words instead of icons! :p

Although with it being a special reason, text like that is acceptable :D I don't mind either way. Just looking out for our non english speaking (reading?) friends ;)

First Batch always sounds like something I would hear from a bread bakery :D

I keep changing my mind. First I thought a change to "first edition" might be nice. Then I agreed with Prometheus - "first batch" is part of the vernacular now, so let's keep that. Then I thought MWeston's number-in-box concept was brill.

Iorgy77's post though, is the best of all.
