Triple Triad X

AWSOME! I've been looking forward to this for months, triple triad is my favorite minigame/cardgame EVER.

This looks like a great start! As already mentioned, you should try adding music/sound, adding more quests, improving the graphics, and (of course) fixing the bugs.

Thanks!

A problem I noticed:
If a character is at the top of the screen and you walk down a little ways, the sprite disappears before it is completely off the screen (usually when the screen should be cutting off about the top half of the sprite).

(I hope that made sense)

EDIT: Yay! I just completed the two quests! I can't wait for more, I need to get some level 10 cards...

Just played it. Very, very nice. However I think you have your A and your B button mixed up, unless my GP2x wasn't built right. Whenever it asks to push the A button you actually have to push the B button.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing.

i think thats me being an idiot, it should be the B button for action not A - thats what you get for writing your documentation at 4 in morning! The B button on the right sits easy under the thumb imho and X is easy to get to from there for canceling things. I'll try and fix up all and any places where it wrongly says A- thanks for pointing it out

for everything else:
will try and add music as soon as I can. I already gave it an attempt but i havnt managed to implement music without -destroying- the fps so far. NoName has done some music for me and he makes mod files, so its mods im trying to play. Fixing the NPC disapearing a little soon at the top of the screen wont be hard either so i 'll try and get that done for the next beta.

thanks for all the reports and comments! grats on doing the quests chicken ;)

Paradox` i found a couple other bugs too
Paradox` i noticed when playing the numbers in the bottom of the screen didnt match the numbers on the cards
Paradox` and sometimes when picking cards for battle..the bottom card would have a messed up name
Paradox` happened twice

that is actually a very important bug paradox and its to do with when im inputting data for a deck. i would really appreciate it if, when you spot a card with unmatched numbers then please if you can note down the name of the card (if you placed it then you know the name, if the AI did then win the game and choose that card?) or at least describe what it looks like and any elements etc so I can go streight to the card and double check its data, thanks :)

Nice start on this game! I really like the artwork!

Others have mentioned a few bugs that I saw too. Just one suggestion, when you're talking to somebody it says "More X" on the bottom, but pressing X doesn't do more, it seems you have to press B.

I never played the card game this is copied from so I couldn't make any sense out of that part of it, but it looks pretty good so far!

In it's simplest form:
1. Each card has four numbers in the corner, one for each side of the card. These numbers are the "strength" of that side of the card.
2. If you place your card beside your opponents card(above or below or left or right), and the number on that side of your card is higher than the one on his then you "capture" his card (the colur will change to indicate this).
3. When you have placed all your cards the game finishes, and whoever has more points (or usually, cards captured) wins.
Hope this helps!

BTW, I too have got that odd error were you can keep picking cards after you've won until you get to -4.
I've also noticed were one time the computer beat my card, even though the value was inferior to mine. I'm afraid I didn't catch which card it was though.
And finally, you can play triad against the old man, *before* collecting your gear from jerome!

I downloaded this as it was something that has been interesting me for a while. Its got a great look and feel to it, however one thing I would say it lacks is a tutorial on how to actually play the card game. Yes I know theres something on the Wiki, but i'm lazy (like alot of others) and I just thought it would be nice to have someone guide you through things. As always, its just a suggestion...its your game and I won't be flaming you if you don't put this in....I'll just have to read the Wiki! :D

I say a tutorial could be nice, but only after Sephnroth is happy with all the other, more important aspects of the game. After all, we wouldn't want him baking his noodles on something that can easily be done somewhere else, right?

Two posts before yours, I explained how to play in only three lines: if you couldn't be bothered to read that...

Yes, I did read it...and thats not what I was asking for was it? I thought to myself...a tutorial would be nice to make it clearer.

What's your surname? Tomy?

Well I thought it WAS what you were asking.

"a tutorial on how to actually play the card game" and "it would be nice to have someone guide you through things"

I did both. Unless you're referring to an *In-Game* tutorial (which is *not* what you said)?

I suppose the beta "ends" when you've beaten all the girls, right? The tournament registrar guy thingy is outside the town?

Anyway, the one thing I reacted to was that the interaction is made difficult by the fact that it seems sort of random whether the game lets you actually interact with things (NPCs and searchable things). Often, it won't react at all until I've moved in a particular position relating to the object I'm trying to interact with.
I hope I'm making myself understood here.

But it seems really nice so far!

Something I'd really like to see. Even if someone has played FF8, he may not know all the rules. The best would be a precalculated tutorial game ( maybe against your mother or the friend your got the deck off ) where every different action will happen and also get explained. At the end of the tutorial, all the different rules could be shown in examples.

Btw, are you planning to make the source code public? Or maybe the source of your rpg engine? I'm sure there would be a lot of people actually using it ( except myself, don't really like most of the RPG's in a standart walk, collect, fight ( round-based ), walk, collect, walk back etc. style )

Actually, I'd never played FF8, and I'd never heard of Triple Triad. I just figured out what the rules were as I went along. Of course, you can't expect people to do this. Maybe that first girl (Jessie, was it?) could explain the rules, or that secretary.

Oh, one more thing I noticed: The numbers on the cards as you play are REALLY hard to see. Could you just have them without the anti-aliasing stuff?

i think the blurry numbers are simply due to large images being shrunk down to such a small size. its incredibly hard to even see the images on the cards too. well its not hard.. its just hard to make out what is what, the only one i could tell was cactaur..

im going to have a go at making some from that triple triad advance site. what would be the best way to shrink to sucha small size while keeping the best quality?
