Being that the Gp2x game library is kinda small, I was wondering if there were any developers that might want to start a game project with me?

I worked in the industry a couple years back (did freelance work on civ3). I've been developing xslt web applications most recently, oh the joy. I haven't done many 3d projects as of late so I'm itching to find something new.

I work mainly in 3dsmax and photoshop. I can also do midi.

Things I'm mostly interested in are Graphic Adventures (possibly via scumm?), rpg's and any kind of strategy game. One game i've always been interested in doing is a Glider clone (the paper airplane game on the mac). I always thought that would be perfect for a portable.

Anyway, I just thought I'd throw this out there being that there seems to be a ton of talented developers around here.

EDIT:
If anyone is interested in seeing what glider is check out this link below (the windows version works)

I was thinking of starting on a hard drivin clone some time next month..

I haven't tried any console dev'ing before, but I am going to need some help with car models and track obects.

All flat shaded, no texture sort of affair.

It is a long way off , but just wondering if you would like to help when I get around to it?

It was great on the GP32 (called paperplane).

Funny that... I was thinking of doing a remake of Stunt Car Racer, which is almost the same thing. I've just been throwing the ideas around, and thinking how I would go about doing it. I would code it for oGL first as I don't have a clue how I could do it for GP2X(as yet)

I have been concentrating on the car physics side..
That and collision detection..

Did a hell of a lot of reading on 3d coding on wikipedia, but I think I understand the basics for a 3d engine now.

Also I think I could pass an A level physics exam as well..

I have messed about with opengl stuff in the past, but to code it for that and then take it all apart again to do the software version would be soul destroying.

So I reckon build a 3d rendering engine first.
then the physics engine.
then build a game using those 2..

oh.. and I have no idea where to start with sounds.. so that is another section.
I just know this is going to take months out of my life..

Don't really have the time to devote to this until mid april though.

You do make a valid point... doing the drawing in oGL, and then having to fiddle around to make it work with a self-made 3d engine could be quite a lot of work... I think it would be do-able though. ^_^

The way I see it is: keep the physics as separate as possible from the rendering and that would minimise the effort involved. If coded correctly, you could use, essentially, the same physics engine.

PS... Being able to pass A-Level physics is not necessarily the same as being able to code game physics... trust me... been there done that, so to speak.

Sounds? I can't really help there, haven't done much, if anything, getting sound to work on PC, nvm the gp2x.

EDIT: Sorry... just realise that I sort of strayed from the original topic! I would like to work on a collaborative project, just so you know!
I would like to tackle either an RPG or adventure game as part of a team it might be do-able.

I would love to work on a group project in the future but I am very busy this month (and possibly even longer) and don't have the time for it right now. I'm new to programming, and I'm not a very good artist, so I probably wouldn't be able to help anyways. This summer I plan to make my second gp2x game, I'm busy planning the story, graphics style, and gameplay mechanics right now. If you're still looking for someone about a month from now, please send me a PM or something.

EDIT: you posted this in the wrong place....... gp32 != gp2x

sijones, I might be able to help you out. I'm not that big on doing 3d games on portables, tho. Especially portables that don't have 3d acceleration. I really would like to do something sprite based. An original rpg would be so much fun, but I imagine it would take at least a year to complete at a high level. Something like Ultima 6/7 would be fun (but that would probably take a couple years).

I also thought something like Weird Worlds: Return to Infinate Space would be kinda cool to to remake. http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=62260

But it sounds like you would need pretty basic models with limited to no texturing for a 3d car game, which I could probably crank out pretty quickly. So when/if you decide to start the project let me know.

critical, damn! That sucks someone already did a glider clone. Unfortunately it doesn't look like it's much better than the original.

deadlychicken22, Just pm me. I'm always interested and I'm always busy, but that's life I guess.
