Whos Excited For Tomorrow?! (friday)

I don't think they will release anything.
craigix was on #gp2xdev last night and said that DignSys had told him that they were going to release v1.3.x (without the source code) today. According to the now-locked thread, there was some problem with mplayer and that was holding the source code up.

I'm still on 1.1 ... and I only upgraded to that to stop the menu flickering in DRMD.

The only thing that they need to do to get me onto 1.3 is call sync after exiting the ebook reader. Scrolling through a couple of chapters because the bookmark isn't always saved correctly is starting to bug me.

Heh, when the source gets released maybe I can patch it myself! I can call it the Panda Edition Firmware and justify all those people who were worrying that the firmware would splinter into a million different hacks the moment it's released

Well i can't see em releasin the frimaware without the source unless they are really thick and want to antagonise the people who have been asking them to comply with the GPL on previous versions.
If they keep ignoring the GPL they will be in trouble end of story so i expect to see the firmaware when it is ready with source.

hmmm... yes, i like it! Maybe I'll make a 'Shrubbery Edition'. I don't know anything at all about the workings of the firmware, but i'm sure I could hack in a few extra bugs, by randomly changing some variable names
come on GPH, release the source, so that I can have a go at mangling it beyond repair. :D

I've got an even better idea, when the source will be released I'll create my "Deedoo Edition", with some new bugs, but I will NOT release the source with my modifications  Then I'll sit and start to appreciate the show :D

I'm hoping its the miricle firmware update we've been waiting for. It'll probably be like the others firmware it'll fix 1 or 2 problems and cause 10 more.

/me waiting till someone write about source of firmware... 12 pages of post and closed topic again

Here's whats new in 1.3.0:

1. Extended battery life by adjusting clock
2. On Mplayer file index screen, you can set clock in three stages by using Y button(FULL, NORMAL, SAVE each corresponds 200, 166, 100)
3. LED Light on when battery is short
4. In Setting Menu, user can set LCD clock
5.Killed Photo Viewer Bug
6. Killed Speaker Stereo Bug
7. Rectified Sound Left/Right

Cheers!

Thanks for this information! Where did you get it? Is 1.3 already available?

How about interlacing? Will it be removed anytime?
I would appreciate other codepages than only english and korean for subtitles because both are useless for me. Animated GIF support would be good too.

not a very big list of updates considering the time between now and the last update.

at this rate maybe we will have a decent handheld firmware by july

I must say, that considering the outcry over the last few releases without source, it would seem far more prudent to wait a little longer yet (presumably whilst touching up the firmware in the process) and make damn sure the source comes out at the same time.

I've said before that I, as an end user, am less concerned about source release than some devs (morally, I think they ought to, legally, of course, they have to, but, selfishly, I want GPH to survive pretty much regardless since I've invested my money in it - sorry about that). But crucially, I DO want GPH to survive, and I don't think they will for that much longer if they don't make certain they appease those who really do care a great deal more than me at their next release.

Hold back on 1.3.0, hold back on 1.4.0... hold back for however long it takes for the "problems with mplayer" to be resolved such that source can be given out simultaneous to release.

I have to agree with Tobriand.

I want GPH to survive and I want them to be legal, so i'll wait.

I just wish they'd get the interlacing thing sorted and and do a bit of checking before they release, just to make sure any introduced fixes haven't caused other probs.

I for one am happy to volunteer as a 'playtester' for any new firmware ;)

It seems everyone is waiting for serious actions from GPH and their partners. That's what GPH also would like to. They are working for it and we will see some nice improvements in various issues soon.

After int13.net another game development company(http://www.elementstudioweb.com) declared their intention to develop commercial games to GP2X. Hope to see more. That's how GP2X and GPH survive.

am i the only one with video-audio sync problems!?!

this is huge for me at the moment. just as i got my tvout cable too.
