Firmware Upgrade Compatible Cards And Faq

It seems the latest shipments from Gamepark Holdings has a more recent firmware: mine came with 1.2.0, and arrived on 1/13/05 (yes friday the 13th!! DUN DUN DUN!!! (actually nothing bad at all happened)). My card could not be read by the GP2X OS with my Kingston 1 GB, yet somehow I upgraded the firmware to 1.2.1 with that very card, and it works =/

Bottom line: Gamepark Holdings is making GP2Xs with later firmware/software, and this thread might become more of an old trivial matter. Yay.

Hiya thread buddies! Iv'e been away for a while and kinda lost intereset while my GP2X was at the menders, but I'm back now so if anyone wants to PM me on what has changed in the last month and a half then I will update the firmware FAQ

Cheers

The Psx emu has become blinging!

The list of working and non-working SD cards can't be correct.

1. SanDisk 256MB is in the working list, and also in the non-working list. Which one is it?

2. The Kingston 1GB SD Card is in the non-working list, but I have it working on my GP2X (firmware 1.2.0) without any problems. You may add it to the working list.

3. You can also add YouSD II from Inx Japan to the working list. This is a USB+SD card 2in1: http://www.portablegadgets.net/article/226/usb-sd-yousd-ii

yup.. all toshiba cards work as of firmware 1.1.0 i believe, or the one before. so that includes kingston and viking, to name a couple.

I have a theory (only a theory) that due to GPH's crappy implementation of SD drivers, people using Toshiba-manufactured cards (which make up quite a large percentage of the current SD cards, including Kingston and Viking) may experience pauses during games. Just a word of warning. Sandisk cards do not appear to be affected.

i thought it was because toshiba cards are slower generally. i know my toshiba card was the cheapest i could find

If a card is "not compatible for firmware" does that mean that the stock filesystem is wrong, and it just won't load the firmware upgrade, or does it mean it will brick my GP2X?

I reformatted my 256MB Kingston to Fat32 before I even got my 2X, and never had a problem with it, but I'm afraid to upgrade and brick it, especially now that GP32Z.COM has apparently gone dead.

It just won't work. It won't brick your 2X or anything, just make sure you don't run the patch if you haven't seen the Upgrading Firmware screen.

I couldnt get my sandisk 512 to work for shit. So I went into dos and formatted it to FAT then i used a sandisk card reader and it worked finally. i used my printer sd slot and it didnt work I tried using the gp2x and it didnt work. So it was either formatting in DOS or using the card reader that helped me.

i putted my sd card in gp2x and connect with usb to my pc, pc saw gp2x and i formatted it and put stuff on it. GP2X didn't saw it... I ejected the sd card and again pressed it in my GP2X and it just worked... <_<

Hey,

Just ordered my GP2X and hope to get it this week, I was thinking about getting the 4.0 Gb Sandisk card, but after reading the front page it seems it's not supported (as of mid-December at least), is this a firmware issue or will the system never be able to read the 4gb card....

Or will it only be able to read the first 2gb of it?

Someone said thier 4gb one worked. He even had it like 80% full and it read all the files fine.

But you could buy 3X gb cards for the same price as one 4gb so go for 2gb ones :)

I don't have a Gp2x yet, but i would like to be prepared for it... so does the Sandisk 2 gigabyte card work for firmware upgrades and i'm a bit confused about the red text on the first post. Where's the best place to buy a gp2x in the u.s.? Thx:) i was thinking gp32z.com is gp32z reputable or not?

I have jsut upgraded to version 1.40 on a Viking Interworks 1GB and it works without problem. i wouldnt say Cross it off completely from the cards lited as working, id hate to be the reason for loads of peoples GP2X's crashing, but i thought it might be handy to know.

btw: i had only the update files on the SD when i upgraded, i dont know if this would have made a differance.

Same here : Update and patched 1.2X to 1.4.0 with Viking Interworks 512 thru onboard SDcard reader on Xp/Sp2.
Usb cable used to work before this upgrade, now it's not.
I used GPH Method (usbmon.exe) to correct that issue and it's working now.
I'm not using Usb cable a lot btw.

This is weird...
I have 1gb sandisk card, and I put only the update files to the card. It didnt update, and I opened utilities and one of the files it said patching.... and then I got lcd function on my settings menu

and it says on the info menu that I have 1.4 but when I turn the gp2x on it says 1.2, but still it says 1.4 on the info

The patch patches the applications and always works, unless your NAND is locked. The update (run at bootup) updates the kernel (what Linux uses to communicate with the hardware), and doesn't work on specific SDs. You need to run the update at bootup to get it to work.

Read my Guide to Firmware Upgrading.

ok. i have a Viking interworks 512 SD card, and one of the first GP2X's
with firmware 1.0 (2005.11.17).. that i have updated to 1.2.1 with Robsters Kernal updater (which suposodley helps with the Toshiba card detection for future firmware upgrading)
i have tried and tried a few different methods of updating firmware, including the usb copying method. but it just doesnt recognise the kernal image to do the update.
how will i be able to upgrade it?
it's driving me nuts!!!! i really want to sort out the problems with the screen etc and 1.4 looks a good firmware compared to the others but i still cant get my machine to update!
ANY IDEAS OR SUGESTIONS APRECIATED.

how can i get it to recognise my Toshiba (viking OEM)card with a 1.2.1 firmware??
i just dont get the "firmware updating screen" as it says i should when i boot it up with the new kernal on the root of the SD card (FAT 32 formatted) but i t did to the patching bit, so says it is 1.4, but i think it is still 1.2.1 as it says on the loading screen. (still says v1.2.1) as i have never had the screen i am supooised to have for the kernal upgrade, just the fiel gets deleted and it seems to boot as normal..

thanks
