We need more drama. So here's another video.

I've just noticed that the pinephone is running KDE, a desktop which mimic windows, an os targeted at the middle-class. It will be sold at 150$
The librem 5 is running gnome, a desktop which mimic mac, an os targeted at the upper-class. It will be sold at 700$
Are the two groups developing those phones indirectly reusing microsoft and apple's marketing?

This is my experience too. Worst of all, there is not even a Haskell compiler in the repo's. The best I could find was Clojure.

If it was tenable I would still use it.

I am eyeing the F(x)tec pro1 but i don't know if/how it supports video out, and it doesn't look like it supports band 71. Also I'm moving to Japan for 2 years and need something supported in the US and there.

Well then, if it is not, I guess someone should go find their forums and tell them how deluded they all are for showing such confidence in such a badly delayed and mismanaged project.

Has it been in progress for 5 years?

Are you just mad because your whining about lid close shutdown didn't go over well...like most of your "ideas"?

I had not expected someone to take that bait quite so readily - or at all.

Not in the slightest. I have put forward many ideas for discussion over the course of the Pyra and Pandora development cycles. I have also been involved in the refinement of other's ideas and suggestions. Many made it into the product, many did not. Most spur some form of discussion - some rational, some not, all good in the end. That is how community involvement works. Discussion of ideas has been a core aspect of this community for a very long time before I joined it and will likely be a core factor in the many years to come.

At what point will the project's progress put to rest your continued barrage of fear, uncertainty and doubt?

I'm looking forward to ED's next round of exciting news. We're getting very very close on this.

You mean most did not, and your suggestions weren't based on any knowledge or experience. You simply add noise or work or both.

I know there will be a product, but this development has gone on far too long, with unnecessary second, third, 18th chances for vendors.

Even now the prototype preorders which should have gone out haven't (it will be a year since they were "going out" in nov...). The cases aren't done (even though most of us have said "just get it out already") the emblem isn't done. The boards aren't built.

People think "oooh the case needs to make a good impression," for reviewers while ignoring that the software won't meet reviewer expectations for a year after the product comes out (no rotation and hardware acceleration at the same time or emmc/sd switching amongst other things)

It will be another 6 months at best. There is no sense of urgency or drive to finish.

THAT is what bothers me. I know the product will be what I want based on the Pandora which is why I'm still invested

I wouldn't put it as strongly as you do, as it's impossible to say whether there is a "sense of urgency" from just the lack of news-related posts. I can't remember the analogy correctly, but the duck may look calm and motionless on the surface of the water while their feet are kicking like a mad person underneath...

Actually, depending on how you count the keymat layout work I did, I'd put myself about 80/20 with 'stuff used' / 'not used'.

The very first thing I recall suggesting was a lanyard hole on the Pandora. It was December 8, 2008.

That ended up with a somewhat humorous thread where many thought I meant to wear my Pandora around my neck.
https://pyra-handheld.com/boards/threads/lanyard-hole.42884/

You will find a lanyard hole in both the Pandora and the Pyra.
EXQgdc0.jpg

Photo is from this series of pictures that I took of the traveling keymat prototype and test mule that went around to several of us.

I put that one in the win column. I'm betting you have another way of 'keeping score' of my suggestions. But, your turn. Show us all something you personally have suggested or done to contribute to the Pyra project or community?

Mods - feel free to move this to absurdism or whatnot at your discretion. Suggested thread title: Pissing Match. In the meantime I'll refrain from posting regarding said match until the master of FUD posts up some accomplishment.

Cheers y'all!

Wow..how many people use the lanyard and how many people like your keymat?

I would have been fine with the Pandora keymat and I know many dislike your "design" (if what to put in the caps counts as design). I have never used the lanyard hole and I doubt it is used by many. So worthless.

Once again this is your wants, not contributions. What was it i said about creating work? Yeah.

Let's look at your water jet suggestion based on nothing. That what was it? Created noise.

Yeah. You are really valuable.

@Swordfish II we can stop with the ugly personal attacks ("You are really valuable" o_O).

ED doesn't spend time on things that aren't worth his time, and it's better to have an open community where everyone is able to make "bad" suggestions every once in a while, than to have a closed community where people make mistakes behind the scenes and no one learns anything (besides the people making the device).

So one person can attack multiple times but i can't respond... Got it.

this, too, is noise :). no one here has any problems with complaints ("it's taking too long," etc.), but striking out personally against someone who has contributed meaningfully to the community and project isn't nice. (Grench also bought a prototype.)

most of us aren't helping out too substantially with the Pyra, and don't mind that others aren't either, but software is something you could theoretically contribute to now, to help with getting things into better shape for reviewers...

lots of people think they could do things better than the person who is running the show -- Dunning-Kruger effect and all...

1. Making a keyboard thread is hardly a contribution.
1.5. I too have had my money tied up in this from the day preorders opened.
2. Maybe @Grench shouldn't make jabs at me
3. Maybe you shouldn't attack me either.
4. I haven't started anything, i have simply responded to repeated jabs
5. You want to be adults then be adults but I'm not going to just sit here and take it when you don't.

But hey maybe there is someone here that could come up with a useless suggestion based on.....nothing.

Your choice.

@Swordfish II i don't see how i was attacking you, unless you took the Dunning-Kruger effect bit personally.

but maybe we can stop the Jerry Springer sideshow and get back to waiting for real news, or derailing the thread with other nerd stuff as usual?

It is.

That doesn't give you a free pass to antagonize people. (Although, I understand that it's usually Grench for some reason)

2. Maybe @Grench shouldn't make jabs at me
Grench answered politely at first, then leashed out when you provoked him for the second time :
You simply add noise or work or both.

3. Maybe you shouldn't attack me either.
Then you shouldn't antagonize people.

No, you did start a feud :

It's been years now, we know at what pace the pyra development goes. There really isn't much most of us can do at this point. Besides, the pyra is a toy, its slow release won't endanger anyone's lifestyle.

Guess you missed me making a comment about being excited about the pinephone

then @Grench makes a comment about how "SOMEONE should go complain on the pinephone forum about it not being out"

Its right at the top of this page.

Yeah that was the actual start, must have just been a coincidence though right???

Hmmm that totally wasn't a snide jab directed at me, and based on a comment I made
