We need more drama. So here's another video.

Thanks for the update. No drama. Just excitement to see things coming together. Fight on brother! Fight on!

I think the coating is a good choice. Good to know as well that it won't take much additional time.

The concern for there being too many variations for the assembly company to address is valid. The answer is pretty simple.

All first wave/production purchased models get made as black with coating. Might even want to make this the ongoing default.

Uncoated 'fun colors' case plastics sets get stocked as accessories in ED's store for additional purchase. Whenever a current color's stock runs low, ED could order a new batch of cases in the same or a 'special edition' color.

Want a blue one? Buy a black one and an additional set of blue plastics for the blue case.

Assembly streams are kept as simple as possible this way.
If ED decides to only produce black 4GB versions, then there would be: Pyra, Pyra 4G EU, Pyra 4G US.
If he produces both the 2GB and 4GB variations only in black, then there are six.
If he produces both 2GB and 4GB with choice of Black, Blue or Red case there are 18 different models/streams that have to be quantified and tracked.

Every differentiating stream at production adds costs -very- quickly. Each product stream could add more to the per unit costs than the price of the plastics set.

The problem with the self adhesive metal plate, is this due to it being place in an automated fashion?
Looks you can superglue that metal to the case if there is someone that has a week time to do some repetitive work.
If you use the other options, will it still be transparent to show the LED?

I'm wondering about the logo. Little surprised that it's not finalised... and I'm almost thinking leave it off, and we can stick on our own logo later. Maybe something a little more custom or unique.

For example, a Commodore logo plate for a beige case. ;)

Must admit, I always assumed it was being tacked up after it was cut.

But we need something there. It would make the plastic marks look like nothing if there was just the current ugly hole left in the lid. Wouldn't review at all well, I suggest.

Good idea, that could be a way to go.
Just ask Henkel or Locktide for a fitting superglue and find someone willing to do these on a hourly basis.
I`ve called Locktide a few years ago, told them which materials i needed to glue together and they told me the exact product number for the use case.
The glue can then be bought in very little to very big quantities.
You will never seperate these glued peaces ever again.

I really like the progress and am really excited for the Pyra now.
Getting so close makes waiting harder and harder.

without logoplate, an uncovered led, bright enough to blend your eyes, could prevent you from seeing the discolorations of the case. so no plate and coating needed.
= win win!
[doublepost=1570141580,1570141390][/doublepost]... and i'm in for an future c64 themed case too! <3

I enjoy the finishing of the xbox pad, is that plastic sanded?
Also, the caanoo has a great plastic finishing too, but it´s reflective.
If any of those qualities could be reached, I guess all is perfect.

Gotta say that this light-up logo is getting less and less appealing as things move onward. As someone who never wanted it in the first place, watching it go from a plastic logo as part of the back, to a gaudy metal stencil, now to plastic that you are applying to the system is honestly frustrating. At the very least, since it is plastic now, just paint it the same color as the case. I wish we just had the molded logo like we did on the Pandora. It looked much better than whatever this will look like. I realize this sounds super negative, but this has been a lot of frustration for a feature that will honestly have little use.

It is pretty frustrating that things that were complete are now not complete.

I do think case matching plastic is better for the logo. I'm worried the flimsiness will allow something to poke through and damage the screen from the back.

The logo was complete and I have 3000 plates.
The previous case company wanted to take care of bonding the logo to the case.
This is the reason this was finished as well in my eyes.

However, that was just another promise... they probably never even tried it.
Super glue does not work, and this is nothing new but a well-known fact since the thread where I made tons of pictures assembling the prototypes for devs.

So I needed to find a solution and checked with various companies. Applying 3M glue (the same used for smartphones) is possible but extremely expensive as you need to do it per logo plate.

Die-cutting does cost 3000 EUR for the tool and would't work either - as the edges are embossed and this needs to be in the plastics as well, it can't be applied on a flat surface.
Yes, I checked all that during the last few weeks and had various meetings with companies.
If I don't post about it here doesn't mean I'm not doing anything.

Usually, I only post results - not the many discussions I have with different companies.

That's why I mentioned that here: I finally found a usable solution for an issue that was known since I assembled the prototypes.

And yes, this has all been posted here already, if you followed the news.
It shouldn't be new to you that I didn't have self-adhesive logos yet.

The logo itself has a plastic base and rests on the backside of the LCD, so the logo plate rests fully on plastic.
It can't be pushed in.

@EvilDragon Did you look into water jet cutting from pre-adhesive applied aluminum? I know this wouldn't do anything for the 3000 medallions you already have.

I follow the news avidly, but I'm afraid I missed that. It's hard to keep track of everything, and I assumed this was a non issue.

I wasn't entirely serious about leaving the logo or letting us stick our own logo on it, and I trust your judgement on it, :)

@EvilDragon The width of the rim for the logo plate to rest upon in relation to the size of the hole would suggest to me, that the logo plate needs to be very stiff. Does your currently pursued solution provide a high enough degree of stiffness? Or is my imagination just exaggerating?

The adhesive is extremely strong and the plate rests with the full area on plastic.
Yes, on the sides it's only a small area, but you'd need to push it outwards to remove it from there.
Pushing inwards isn't possible.

So you have a strong adhesive (like a display of a smartphone) which fully rests on plastic and unless you push from the inside of the case it fully rests on plastic.
