Back from Greece

Yes, unless there's an outstanding demand for transparent to be the colour in the forthcoming colour threads (and even then it will mean the carbon fibre inclusions can't be used, so it's highly unlikely to be the official colour), the only way to get a transparent case is to buy it from August-ish and install it on your Pyra yourself once you get it (assuming you aren't due to get a prototype order which are intended to have transparent cases).

I appreciate you answering, but I would really like to hear it directly from @EvilDragon. No offense just want to know once and for all it's been hard to get verifiable info on this topic. Thanks.

Originally the prototype pre-pre-orders were supposed to get custom one-off colored cases. I still want 'glow in the dark polycarbonate', but that isn't happening. We'll just have to make do with Clear cases. That does mean that anyone who wants to create something to impersonate a prototype pre-pre-order unit can do a pretty good job of it.

Have any of the other prototype pre-pre-orders gone public or is it still just me? (I was/am number 8 of 8.)
Were there any prototype pre-pre-order cancellations? (I don't think we're tracked in the same order pool.)

Soon... When considered over the course of >2 years, it is starting to feel like, "Soon" (ish).

Once he gets the moulds over to UniquePlast they are going to have to do some runs in different colours anyway to give some ideas of what each will look like, may as well make your voice known for the sample to be run.

Thanks for the update ED. Starting to get a little bit excited.....it actually feels closer than ever :)

One small question though - I thought I'd read somewhere that the new case company didn't shut down in August (another selling point over FA?!), but I may just be out of date with that, or mis-remembering :D

Can they do simulated wood grain?

Random pellets to create a bowling ball or Bakelite type of swirl was one of my other 'out there' ideas. Not quite 'wood grain'. To do wood grain right would require a surface texture treatment as well.

I did some digging to find some of the old colour threads. I've so far only gone back two years in pyra general, and only found this:

https://pyra-handheld.com/boards/threads/pyra-favorite-color.77438/

I guess a lot of these discussions were backed off news topics, but I haven't been through them yet. Still, there's a poll you can vote in there if you haven't already, and some renders. There are a lot more renders somewhere I think, but I haven't found those yet.

That's more what I meant, just appearance, not texture.

transparent XOR carbon fibre? Why?

Thought so, too. Maybe the AC is broken, now.?

When it comes to colour, Neelix'

is in desparate need of realization. :)

The last thing I had to do in Greece was discussing the upcoming production run of the Pyra case with UniquePlast.
Especially with different plastic materials, etc.
They're very experienced with different colors (and have many of them in stock). I think you will be very pleased with the final case the Pyra will have!

We could now also mix different colors together, for example, have the keyboard part a different color than the lid, etc.
Time to resurrect the old thread with the different color themes to see what we can do to make it look good, eh?
Has the type of plastic material actualy changed from the old plans to use the durable Polycarbonate? I guess everything is better than the material used for the Pandora cases for sure. ^^

transparent XOR carbon fibre? Why?
Because carbon fibre itself isn't transparent. If you were to include lengths of it in your transparent mix you'd see small lengths of it randomly distributed and oriented throgh your end product (or maybe it would align somehow and show the flow pattern, which might be interesting if you were studying injection moulding, but wouldn't look that good on a consumer product I predict).

Du könntest doch auch einfach auf deutsch posten, wäre für mich viel einfacher ^^

(Just post in German, this would also be much easier for me )

I translatet over 60 Pyra Newsposts and even bevor it all startet I tried to translate some software releases and also gathered information about Pyra from places like Twitter or news burried within threads. Sadly the forum is just dead and there were no signs of new people comming and staying.

So I asked myself: Why bother?
(and the fact that live had other things in mind for me and I had no time anymore)

tl;dr
Sorry matzesu that I can‘t translate for you any longe.

Sorry matzesu, dass ich nicht mehr für dich übersetzen kann. (Giggo vom deutschen Forum)

I have a hexamid long cuben fiber (carbon fiber fabric) tent. If you look closely there seem to be millions of short hairs embedded in a trash bag thin plastic sheet. The tent is semi transparent in daylight, opaque to flashlights at night. With its cf poles it weighs 1.5 lbs.

It would work fine with clear, at 6" it will look like a million tiny hairs got mixed into the plastic. At 18" it will look smoked.

Ooohhh... smoky transparent CF glow in the dark.
