What a great start - prepare for the next level!

IMO this isn't true. Pyra's CPU falls well short of modern standards.

That completely depends on what you are comparing it with.

Are you comparing with desktops or full-size laptops? Sure, then the Pyra CPU is not very powerful. Not particularly weak either, just rather "meh" and the kind of thing you would expect to find in low-end machines. But that's not a fair comparison: desktops and laptops have a power budget and physical space budget that is an order of magnitude larger than what we're talking about here.

Are you comparing with chromebooks, tablets or phones? Then it's pretty much state-of-the-art. Not the best there is (the best cannot be obtained by anyone but the giants like Samsung, Apple, etc), but certainly still high-end.

Are you comparing with handheld game consoles? Then it's very powerful. Compare:
  • New Nintendo 3DS (released in 2015) : 268 MHz ARM11 MPCore quad-core, 256 MB RAM
  • PlayStation Vita (released in 2012) : Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore, 512 MB RAM
  • GCW Zero (released in 2013) : Ingenic JZ4770[1](MIPS) @ 1 GHz, 512 MB RAM
  • Nvidia Shield (released in 2013) : Tegra 4 (1.9 GHz GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A15), 2 GB RAM
Of the above, only the Shield has a compute power that is comparable to that of the Pyra. The others aren't even in the same ballpark. But the Shield is significantly less portable (it will not fit in your pockets like a Pandora/Pyra), it does not have a keyboard, and it only has Android so it's basically a phone/tablet with game controls, not a miniature laptop.

The Nvidia Shield is awesome. Not as portable and no keyboard. But extremely good built quality and fantastic gaming controls.

The only downsize is that the machin is not really powerful enough to run fullspeed PSP-emulation.

I believe the tegra4 is superior to the OMAP5, right?

"Superior" really depends on use case. Isn't there a fan in the Shield to keep it from overheating? That isn't possible in the Pyra. I am pretty sure the Tegra is more powerful, but if you put it in the Pyra it would probably not be able to make full use of that, unless we want ED's April 1st post to come true.
[doublepost=1462801243,1462801141][/doublepost]It might also tear burn through the battery of the Pyra quite a bit quicker.

This is something that makes we wonder. We tried PPSSPP on the GPD XD, which should be A LOT faster than the Pandora.
However, the PSP emulator didn't really work much faster than on the Pandora.

Is Android causing issues here?

1+2 done
3 What's weird about it?

Technically it should be A cm x B cm x C cm. all three dimensions are linear. they do define a volume but to use cm² is incorrect.
In common usage the redundant dimension descriptors are removed . it is implied by A x B X C cm that all measurements are in cm.....

Yes, there is a fan built in. And this fan is needed. Can be quite hot sometimes.

Yes. Could be. On the shield it needs a lot of tweaking for most of the games to make them somehow playable.

Nah, it's the Pandora build of PPSSPP that is awesome ;)

More seriously, yes, I think Android is slowing down things, both on the CPU and the GPU side. I was less then impress when I tried PPSSPP on my Quad-core 2GHz phone, where speed was barrely better then on the Pandora on some of my test-games (not counting the fact that touchscreen control just cannot be compared to real hardware buttons and dpad)

It is (in my experience) unusual to use a unit of volume when giving dimensions of a device. Usually it's just <a> x <b> x <c> cm (or mm or m or whatever). It's not technically correct, but that's just how it's done usually. So I'd leave it at "cm" too.
Haven't you noticed the Pyra actually goes into the 9th dimension? That's why there are so few 2D photos of it.

Code:
   A cm x B cm x C cm
 = A cm² x B cm x C
 = B x C cm² x A cm
 = A x B x C cm³
!= A     x B     x C cm
The latter may be commonly used, thus it may be o.k., but the Pyra is not 386,976 cm, thus calling it correct ... meh.

Well, the pyra also does not consist of roughly 120 of 3,2cm³ units that are maybe arranged in a 13,9 x 8,7 grid (so some of them would be incomplete), what 13,9 x 8,7 x 3,2cm³ would imply.

is anybody really confused about the dimensions?

optimization stuff is a big issue, and people don't always realize it when they get their spec'ed out phones. reminds me of a quote from an algorithms book, but i'll lift it off wikipedia:

"An optimal algorithm, even running in old hardware, would produce faster results than a non optimal (higher time complexity) algorithm for the same purpose, running in more efficient hardware; that is why the algorithms, like computer hardware, are considered technology." wikipedia

in other words, ptitSeb is a manufacturer of impressive technology.

As an approximation of the Pyra's volume it's correct. (Correct does not imply exact.)
As the smallest rectangular box containing the Pyra it's correct.

Well my point was that the Pyra does not contain any uniform rectangular boxes. So while mathematically correct, your notation would be at least as misleading as the one you wanted to correct (probably more I guess, as the other one is common). Because the 3,2 value is not there to refer to a specific volume part, but to the thickness of the pyra.

@Djoga'Ro I'm not sure if this should be a some kind of humour, but please delete or rephrase your second sentence in the brackets below the measurements

Are you being serious? I recommend a "South Park"-therapy. ;)
It's metadata. It's a note about the suggestion, not itself suggested to go into the to-be-released text. And I'm sure as such it conveys the thought.
What about the actual data, Erdoğan? Is the compromise reasonable?

ADDENDUM: For those wondering, we went on via PMs in a peaceful manner. :)
At this point here, it looked to me as if Blue Shadow was dismissing the point to obsessively focus on something marginal being politically not correct. Turns out to him/her the actual discussion wasn't that serious a thing to begin with, so nothing obsessive about it. Accordingly my namecalling shouldn't be regarded as a proper comparison.

I am very interested in the Pyra but after getting burned on a couple Kickstarter type things I'll be waiting to throw down my money when more info comes out.

What kind of info do you need? It's probably already out there somewhere since ED is documenting as good as everything.
