GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

Because they already have enough money to make it happen, as they have already said numerous times.
Ah, thanks, really didn't get that. I think it is difficult to draw the line. If I could sell a kidney to get enough money instead of using kick starter, is it still crowd funding? Doing it this way, GPD spreads the risk and can do more things using their capital. Overall the crowd may still fund additional development, that couldn't happen without. In that case IMO crowd funding would be an adequate description.

Whoever runs their twitter is pretty thou.

*sigh* So few natural women around anymore.
That's such a condescending statement! Unless you've a unique concept of "natural" is, or your sole experience of women is inside a cosmetic surgery clinic. Maybe you should broaden your horizons before making such a sweeping generalisation that's utter bullshit

I don't think he is hinting in that direction, I think its more about the heavy usage of cosmetics (applying it with a brick trowel), overuse of perfume, plastic fingernails, etc, or maybe even shaving. Except the last point, thats pretty much what I prefer too (especially the perfume part, most women smell a lot better without any perfume then with).

Plus body-mods. Females without piercings and tattoos are quite rare in some places, finding one that is wearing her natural hair color nearly impossible in some areas, but we digress.

For anyone I am pretty much ok with anything ranging from purely resembling our freak ape lineage, with no decorations or shaving, all the way to modifications that result in the person barely resembling a human (and I would also be fine with those that give up their meatsuit for something that better suits the individual). I prefer to know the person instead of getting caught up on the flesh (or potential lack of it).

Has anyone done the retweet thing to try to win a Win? I don't really use Twitter, and I don't know how I feel about advertising for them. I haven't even done that for the Pyra, which I am more comfortable trying to sell to people. Since other OSs might be a possibility, and I don't plan on buying a Win, I would like to try to get one without needing to part with money.

From GPDs last campaign update, it seems they will be making a number of engineering prototypes in June to be sent to various users to test.

Could they rather fix the horrible firmware of the Q9 instead?
It's discharging in stand-by at ridiculous rates and the OS says, that it's because of the (non existent) cellular function.
The tiny internal storage aside - putting 3GB for the system inside and then slapping the rest as an internal second storage in it where you can't install things on to call it 16gb was really lame.

Support is non-existent and confused with "PR" at GPD.

Here's the latest photo of their progress . Looks like they have all the components in it to see if they all fit properly including the screen:

I am still wondering what's up with that keyboard. Is it "real" or just a mock up? (I hear the ones on the laptop underneath are pretty good, especially for a chiclet one, so I would like to try one out for myself.)

I guess it looks ok, but I still think corners that are highly rounded look bad, even on laptops. Although the Pyra and Pandora probably won't win any beauty contests, I like the corners on them. Proteins look a bit weird to me, and those fingerprints aren't helping anything. It is good that they are getting things together.

Did they mention who was getting those prototypes you mentioned earlier, or how they would decide who gets them? If their products are popular in their home country they probably have a lot of testers nearby to test them. That would keep the prototypes close by, and if the average Chinese hand is smaller than the average European or American hand it could help them if they might need to fix the keyboard (unless they are going with that one no matter what).

On the keyboard, again: Is it possible that this isn't actually supposed to be used with thumbs, and they expect users to hold it with one hand and type with the other?

The Indiegogo update has some detail on what they are looking for in regards to selecting two testers from the pool of backers.

There are people that they use to test their products who will get a prototype as well. I know one person , he has mentioned to me a while ago that he will be getting a prototype to test.

GPD has also been kind enough to promise free produiction WINs for the effort a few of us put into keyboard, design and spec suggestions(even though most wern't used). There are three of us in that boat, of which I'm one of. So when I get it, I'll let you know what it's like. I imagine it won't be until near the end of the year though

Cool. I look forward to your opinion on the keyboard when you get to try it out. Also everything else.

GPD have made another update to the Keyboard after my whining about missing keys

Here's a before and after of the change. Home, End, Insert, PrtScrn, Pause and Scroll Lock have now been added. Also, Pg Up & Dn have now been moved to their correct location for reduced keyboards (as per laptops and previous UMPCs) ie on the arrow keys along with Home and End:
